Let’s build unique and resilient communities together!
One of Secret Retreats’ missions is to make a difference for our local communities and environments. The Secret Retreats team, along with our passionate member hoteliers, chefs and cruise operators, invest resources and efforts in building up a stronger community wherever we are located.
Here are just some examples of what we have accomplished together with our local communities, including supporting entrepreneurship, creating jobs for local people, reducing environmental impact and taking part in community development.

V-Secret Homemade Vegetarian Food is a small project that Secret Retreats recently invested in to create jobs for locals in Chiang Mai, Thailand and support them in gaining the entrepreneurial skills needed to run a small restaurant. The vegan food stall uses exclusively fresh local produce and homemade ingredients, like tempeh, to create original recipes that are cooked-to-order in front of customers. The project’s strict no plastic policy means banana leaves over wooden boards are used as “plates” and carved out cucumbers are used for sauce containers.

Thailand-based Secret Table chefs, Chef John from Empty Plates and Chef Black from Blackitch Artisan Kitchen, strongly support Pimali Foundation in Nong Khai, Thailand. The centre trains underprivileged teenagers from around eastern Thailand in culinary arts. Both chefs have spent time at the centre sharing essential cooking techniques and what it takes to become a future chef. From sauce making and baking to learning staple Isaan dishes, the versatile training is very detailed-oriented, offering a lot of care for each individual student.

A beautiful floating hotel on Myanmar’s picturesque Inle Lake, Inle Heritage Stilt Houses is just one part of the Inle Heritage Foundation’s work to preserve Inle Lake's nature and culture. The foundation trains local students in hospitality practices to then go on to work for regional hotels and restaurant’s including their sister hotel Inle Princess Resort. In addition to the training centre, founder Yin Myo Su built Inle Heritage Private School after seeing a need for younger kids to have a more forward-thinking and holistic education. Emphasising student-centred learning, the school promotes a sense of community by having students participate in feeding the chickens, caring for the garden and sharing rotating responsibilities, to further develop civic responsibility, independence and creativity.
