Ultimate Borneo Triangle
Journey Between the Beach, Hot Springs and Jungle
Ben and the team of Sutera Sanctuary Lodges invite you to experience the natural beauty of Sabah, Borneo from Manukan Island to Mount Kinabalu. Enjoy your experience diving, trekking and simply relaxing amongst the unbridled nature of Sabah.
Start the journey driving from the airport to Kota Kinabalu jetty for a boat ride to this tropical hideaway, which is one of the five islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. Staying at your Hillside Villa facing the sea, explore the island from a pristine rainforest, beautiful white sand beaches, ocean kayaking and diving to see the protected coral reef. There is a selection of diving courses available to become certified for non-certified divers. For snorkeling, enjoy a wide selection of sites including right in front of your chalet where the reefs lie in shallow water. Fuel up after the activities with Malaysian and international cuisine at the resort’s P’rahu Restaurant with a satisfying selection of fresh fish and other seafood specialties.
Make your way from Manukan Island by boat back to Kinabalu Jetty and drive to Poring, which is known for its hot springs. Located 400 metres above sea level in a lowland forest with large rainforest trees, unwind amongst the property’s lush greenery and cleanse your mind and body with the healing water infused with variable minerals. Explore more around the retreat including a butterfly farm, orchid garden, bird-watching spots, and a breathtaking treetop walk on a 43-metre-tall canopy walkway.
Leave Poring Hot Spring and drive to Kinabalu Park located 1,585 metres above sea level at the highest point between the Himalayas and New Guinea. Capture the beauty of nature from one of the resort’s elegantly designed and comfortable lodges. Get out into the great outdoors with various treks, walking in the mist swirling through miniature trees, bird watching and catching a stunning view of the sunset. Mountain climbers can also enjoy reaching the peak of Mount Kinabalu during the dry season from March to August.

Savour Malaysia’s gastronomic heritage with new twists through Chef Darren
Teoh’s ingenious 11-course and 17-course tasting menus that re-interpret the use of highly local ingredients in a manner reminiscent of his apprenticeships across several Michelin star restaurants. Each dish is carefully crafted with indigenous ingredients and produce sourced from nearby farms, jungles, mountains and seas to encourage a deeper appreciation for Malaysia’s land and culture.

At Babe, the menu is curated into sections of Umi (sea), Tochi (land) and Hamono (plants). Here ‘Japas’, Chef Jeff Ramsey’s creatively modern take on Japanese-style tapas, are served to share. Enjoy the relaxed and intimate social interaction of ‘fun dining’ as opposed to ‘fine dining’ while overlooking the stunning Kuala Lumpur skyline.
