“This city-centre hotel is a complete gem. Beautifully designed around 1990 by a wealthy antiques enthusiast, this is a place with very high standards of staff service and enthusiasm. It is a treasure-trove of fascinating period rooms and spaces, crammed with wonderful artefacts of various periods, which the staff are very eager to take you round and explain. The bedrooms are very well thought out to a high spec, and with good wifi. The pool is a very good size, and beautifully lit at night. The breakfasts are of utter blow-out proportions, with great menu choices, though do allow plenty of time as each person’s is individually prepared. You get a lovely complimentary afternoon Indonesian ‘high tea’ on the terrace. The bar is like a connoisseur’s wine cellar. And don’t forget the in-house bakery, with breads and cakes of the highest quality open till 11pm. If you take the guided tour, the hotel staff will take you round the top-end luxury suites (if not occupied), even though these are probably beyond the wallets of ordinary mortals. Hard to fault in any way.
