Amazing start to Bali trip

“We spent four nights in Hotel Tugu and loved every moment. The service was exceptional–unfailingly friendly, on point, and accommodating. Highlights included: taking a surf lesson (the beach is just outside the hotel doorstep); eating breakfast including lattes, fruit smoothies, and a mix of western and Indonesian / Balinese dishes out on the patio overlooking the ocean; enjoying the beautiful ocean view & private bath in our Rejang Suite; the cooking class + market visit; and cooling off in the beautiful pool.

One downside is that Canggu is somewhat hard to access. We found it impossible to request an Uber in the area, or even a Bluebird taxi, as the local taxi cartel seemed to have intimidated them and we were only offered to be picked up a few blocks away. In the hot & humid weather carrying luggage around is more unpleasant than it would otherwise be. But if you have your own hired driver and/or feel comfortable using the locals / drivers procured through the hotel, then this isn’t a problem.

There is enough to do within walking distance of Hotel Tugu–not to mention enough things going on at the hotel itself–that I would recommend it without hesitation if you are looking for a beautiful hotel on the ocean with some nice cultural touches included.”
