“Siem Reap has 1000’s of visitors and hotel beds. Maison Polanka is by contrast an oasis in this tourist buzz. Great landscape, pool, rooms, food and service. Their wonderful staff arranged a fantastic guide who taught us a great deal about Khmer history and culture and pointed us in the right direction for shopping and dining out (tho dining in was perfectly wonderful). The only flaw in our stay — we should have stayed 5 or 6 nights, so that we might have travelled further afield into Cambodia — visiting Tonle Sap for example. We mentioned it was our husband’s birthday, and the loveliest cake appeared, with a card signed by all the staff, all “”on the house.”” Pure magic.
