The Hue House: "Spectacular Restaurant"
The unforgettable moment when you enter the Hue House restaurant. The decor is just amazing with the old Hue house, reminds us of the past Hue imperial. The food has a good variety to choose from frm wrap, rolls and lots of BBQ variety to choose from. The food is just amazing and the taste is authentic. The service is good up to standards.Pindaya Farm House: "Great Shan State retreat"
"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2.5 day, 3 night stay at the farmhouse. After working/living in Yangon for six weeks, Pindaya Farmhouse is a little paradise, a beautiful building, with wonderful spaces indoors and out to enjoy the rural scenery, along a quiet drive and road out from which we birded quite happily in the afternoon (enchanted by the Sooty-Headed Bulbuls...). The décor is stunning, including bright paintings by Myanmar artists that grace the common room's walls. We also appreciated the farmhouse's efforts at sustainability, with solar panels, solar heated water for showers, rainwater harvesting and storage, and ample vegetable gardens and newly planted fruit trees. I can't wait til the mango trees begin to supply fruit! The rooms are extremely comfortable, each with private sitting spaces outside affording vistas of the rural countryside. Lighting is excellent, and the wifi system was quite reliable (also surprising to find!). The kitchen offers a nice array of dishes for lunch and dinner, although Win Naing also recommended an excellent restaurant, the Golden Moon, on the outskirts of town. We spent one half-day touring the caves, the nearby paper/umbrella artisans, and a weaver. On our second full day, we hired a guide to take us on a 5-mile hike up into the hills, where we visited a village in the bamboo grove and watched potato ""crackers"" being smoked/dried and enjoyed green tea and good conversation with the lady of the house. Along the way, we were passed by a couple and two Myanmar guides who were hiking from Pindaya to Kalaw, a three-day trek. I also collect textiles, and was sent to a little gift shop that had a beautiful selection of women's ""longyi"" cloths. Afternoons were for relaxing and reading, while evenings we especially enjoyed our final dinner shared with fellow travelers. In mid-February the air is still cool and delightfully dry in Pindaya, a welcome respite from Yangon, although it was always a bit smoky from the farmers who are burning crop residues in preparation for the upcoming growing season. That gave a special glow to the sunrises and sunsets, which were both stunning. Thahara made it very easy for me to arrange all aspects of the trip, managing my extensive email inquiries, helping me to settle on dates, and even arranging flights for us between Yangon and Heho near Taunggyi. I paid online via a secure epayment website, it could not have been easier. I plan to recommend Thahara's Pindaya Farmhouse to all my Yangon colleagues!"The Village House: "Away from it all"
After a busy week in Penang this was a delightful contrast. The Village House is full of atmosphere and is a delight to the senses. It is very relaxing and is ideal for someone looking for peace and quietSea Dance Resort: "A beautiful retreat – I want to go back!"
We spent 6 nights at Sea Dance and I honestly could have stayed longer. We had a warm welcome and our deluxe bungalow was spotlessly clean and a good size. We had a quirky bathroom which was attached to the outside of the bungalow which we loved and again spotless. The staff were so welcoming and were all great to have a chat to. It was my birthday and they surprised me with a special breakfast and flowers in my room, its a touch like that you won't find in a bigger resort. The food was exceptional, buffet breakfast and plenty of choices for the evening. We enjoyed the beach too it was very peaceful. You can hire scooters near by to get around. The hotel also has live music, cocktail nights and buffets which were really nice too.The Island Lodge: "A piece of paradise along the Mekong river"
"This is the kind of place which seems to lift you to another plane of existence while you are there. The utter comfort, the calm, the wonderful food, the great service and unique surroundings come together to propel one to a new height. It is evident that the French couple -with Vietnamese roots -who run the place pay extreme attention to detail and quality in all aspects. With a limit at about 25 guests in all, the residence's spacious area facing the Mekong is suffused with a warm and personal atmosphere from an excellent staff. Time stands still and the soul bathes as much as the body does."Sandat Glamping Tents: "Camping “Glamping” – WOW!"
"We stayed at Glamping Sandat for three nights which was a birthday surprise from my wife! It was one of the highlights of our Bali trip. It was so peaceful. We hired a moped to get into Ubud centre because the location is difficult to reach by car - you literally go through paddy fields to get there, which adds to it's charm. We had the most blessed stays. The 'tents' are beautifully designed. It's so relaxing to fall asleep to the sounds of local nature. The communal dining table area is lovely. Food is good. I think it will be hard to beat this place. You have to try it! Especially as you have your own private infinite pool!"Supanniga Eating Room: "Amazing and varied selection of great food"
Great little find this restaurant, fantastic food in a good location that is both quiet and accessible. I highly recommend the Isan-style Pork Steak.Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge: "Best lodge in Pokhara… if not the whole of Nepal"
Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge was by far the best place we stayed in our month long trip to Nepal. Marcus was a fantastic host, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay the best ever. The lodge itself is beautiful and the view will definitely make you want to outstay your visit!Le Passe-Temps: "Little French Paradise"
"During out stay in a close lodging we came here regularly for family lunch and dining by the beach in this little paradise. Very nice food clearly ahead of anything around with variety. Green curry - my benchmark - is very well cooked. Delicious Paneng and TKK. Warm and friendly service. Kids friendly - can spend hours chasing hermit crabs next to you without bothering. Beach and horizon view at high tide is the cliche you are looking for, quietly sipping your chilled Chardonnay while waiting for your starter of fresh spring rolls, feet in the sand and sound of waves in the ears. Also spent Xmas Dinner. Nice buffet in family spirit in a welcoming atmosphere. For those who: - look for a nice lunch/dinner in Krabi far from the crowd. - have a sense of elite and exclusivity without superfluous sophistication. - are not afraid of being surrounded by (quiet and not too vocal) French. - don't mind a slight communautarian skew - are OK to pay more to get more. Still overall very reasonable."Rak Ko Jae Seoul: "Nice experience"
If you want a "local living" experience, this hanok is really nice. You sleep on a mattress on the floor, traditional style. They serve a traditional Korean-style dinner every evening, as well as breakfast every morning. The only downsides: there is really no classic staff like in a bigger hotel, only a caretaker who changes the sheets and cooks the food, and both of the women who were working there during my stay didn't speak a word of English, so if you are looking for recommendations or for someone to call you a taxi, it might be difficult.Travel Asia with Secret Retreats
