The food was great, but what set the meal apart was the service. David and his wife have trained the staff exceptionally well, and David stops by each table to say hello and check in on everything. First night in Bali. Very nice place. Driver from airport (slightly overpriced) arranged by Mathis stopped at coffee plantation demo. You can skip that stop. We enjoyed walk along rice paddy (not along busy road) in the morning. Did not care for busy Ubud - preferred other parts of Bali. Hotel provides shuttle to/from Ubud. "Had a great week at Tugu over Christmas with family. The hotel is decorated with Balinese furniture and art, including in the rooms. Food was very good; nice choice at both the restaurant and for in-room dining. Rooms were first-class; we had a villa with private pool and it felt incredibly private. Service from the hotel staff was also excellent with great attention to make our stay very relaxing; all our needs were met including those from our impatient 5 yr old. "Staying here was so incredibly fun I don't know where to begin. The floors of our room were jade (!) and heated from below by radiant heat (!) -- waking up in the morning was so much more pleasant with warm feet. The futons were really comfortable and the Korean breakfast was SO GOOD. Mr Kim, the manager, was incredibly helpful and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The location is central and easy to get to a lot of the sights in Seoul -- but you couldn't hear ANY street noise in the rooms or the courtyard and we woke up to peaceful birds chirping instead of motors and honking. Overall the whole stay was amazing, I would recommend rakkojae to everyone, you will not regret staying here and it will probably be the highlight of your trip."The Island Lodge: "A piece of paradise along the Mekong river"
"This is the kind of place which seems to lift you to another plane of existence while you are there. The utter comfort, the calm, the wonderful food, the great service and unique surroundings come together to propel one to a new height. It is evident that the French couple -with Vietnamese roots -who run the place pay extreme attention to detail and quality in all aspects. With a limit at about 25 guests in all, the residence's spacious area facing the Mekong is suffused with a warm and personal atmosphere from an excellent staff. "We visited Chiang Mai in April and stayed at this beauts hotel for 3 nights! The hotel is tiny, not many rooms but it was just perfect! It is so unique and quirky! Morning breakfast is served around the pool and the evening market with lots of food places is a short walking distance away. "We had a short stay in The Island Lodge from 8th to 10th of April - I can say, a great finding! It made us extend our stay right after the first three hours on Michels premises. For us, since we were looking for a quiet place away from the busy days in Ho Chi Minh City, it was an excellent option. It was a great experience in all aspect. You will find a very idyllic small road leading to the west-end of Thoi Son island followed by a small path guiding to the entrance of the resort. A beautiful, silent place, which was obviously built and choosen by someone paying a lot of attention to details, will appear. Rooms are very clean and harmonic, the staff is extraordinarily friendly and attentive, food and service met our expectations. Overall a very cosy atmosphere - a place to recharge ones batteries :)"
