Set in lovely wooden home, just outside the centre of town in Siem Reap, Mie Café offers a tranquil dining experience. Soak up the warm atmosphere, and watch the kitchen at work whilst savouring modern cuisine with a personalised Cambodian touch. Delectable dishes include beef laab salad, tuna tartar, and curry with prawn ravioli. The garden views, featuring vegetables, herbs and flowers, adds to the relaxing setting.

The Chef and the Brigade
“I came back to Cambodia in 2012 to pursue my dream of opening up my own restaurant. Using my overseas experience and fresh local ingredients, I create a blend of Western dishes and my own version of traditional Khmer cuisine.”
He was inspired by his mother’s cooking when he was child and wished that he could extend his knowledge in cooking, but he could not afford to attend the luxury hospitality school in Siem Reap.
Without hesitation, Pola slowly started saving up and pushed himself to find work abroad. Through an employment agency, he landed his first overseas job as a waiter in Bahrain then moved to Cayman Island where he saved enough money to pursue his dream. Instead of coming back to Cambodia, he went to Switzerland and put himself through Swiss culinary school and later honed his craft at a Michelin-starred restaurant before returning to his homeland to become part of the new Cambodian Cuisine movement.
His hard work and dedication has paid off. The young chef’s modern restaurant has polished concrete floors and tables with white linens. On the second floor, the dining room retains the house’s traditional Southeast Asian atmosphere. Classic style tables are set on the breezy veranda overlooking the garden where organic herbs grow in high boxes. Chef Pola is well-known for his elegant and inventive contemporary Cambodian cuisine rooted in local produce and European cooking techniques.
Apart from his creativity, Chef Pola has been recognised for his commitment to the environment, to the community, and his desire to develop the food scene by using primarily locally sourced foods. We are glad to have Mie Café and Chef Pola Siv as a member of Secret Retreats.
