Mathis Retreat: "Heaven in the rice fields"
"Back for a third time to this beautiful place. Quiet and serene, being 4km out from the city centre isn't too much of a challenge when you have a shuttle car going every hour. If you're feeling energetic you can walk! Kind Karine, the manager told us of alternative walking routes to get to Ubud from the hotel to take in more sights and get off the main road which I'll be sure to try on my next visit. The amazing quality breakfasts haven't changed, nor has the sense of peaceful village flow. A highlight was a visit from the gorgeous friendly neighbouring cat! Stayed February 2017, traveled with friends"Inle Princess Resort: "My kind of paradise"
This resort is everything and more of what you could possibly expect for a great holiday. Contrary to most other lake resort on Inle, it is very quiet and feels very private. Rooms were amazing and staff was very friendly and helpful. Great Spa in a nice setting is a plus as well.Tugu Bali: "Pure bliss in Canggu"
I have been to Canggu a few times before and never realised that this amazing hotel was actually right there! The interior with Indonesian antiques and art is astonishing and gives the place a special feeling. Our room had a private plunge pool which was a great addition to the hotel pool. I loved having breakfast in a different place every morning and the staff was so friendly and attentive. The cooking class was also amazing as we got to try different Balinese dishes. We also watched the cultural dance and had a delicious dinner that night. It's great to be able to join the afternoon tea time every day and watch the sun go down over the ocean, all in all really such a beautiful experience.Tugu Bali: "World Class Service, Tranquility in Paradise"
"We traveled to Bali last month to celebrate our anniversary and chose Tugu for it's authenticity and location within Bali. And, we were blown away by the level of service that Jenny and the amazing staff provided. The natural beauty of the property and the genuine hospitality of the Balinese people were far above our expectations. Tugu is an excellent choice for an authentic experience that is in one of the best spots in Bali for beaches, surfing, yoga, anything. Not nearly as crowded in Canggu as in other parts of the country. Additionally, we had a bad experience with the airlines on the way in to Bali and my wife was missing her luggage for days. The amazing team working the front desk went above and beyond calling the airport, arranging transportation and ultimately helping us her our luggage back. Thank you Tugu for a memorable stay, we will be back one day soon! Mark and Amber"Rachamankha: "Oasis of Tranquility"
We loved our stay at Rachamankha. In fact, it was our favorite hotel on our entire 4 week trip in Asia. Very quiet, great staff, and good location. The grounds and pool are absolutely gorgeous...if you stay be sure to save a day just to enjoy the hotel. The food at the restaurant was very good and reasonable price for a hotel restaurant. Also enjoyed massages which were reasonable. The room itself is not luxurious, but is very nice and cool Thai style. I don't know what they called it, but we got the room one level above the basic room and thought it was worth the money. Breakfast was also very good. Highly recommend this hotel.Tugu Malang: "A hotel or a museum ? Spectacular either way"
"The Tugu in Malang is without question one of the best hotels in Indonesia. It is large and sprawling, and the antiques and old photos make it seem like a very old building, although it was constructed in the 1990s. The owner has an impressive collection of art, Indonesian, Chinese, and international, and it is displayed throughout the property. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, and the separate enclosure for the very large bathtub in our suite was reminiscent of an old railway car. The staff is professional and attentive and always ready to take that extra step to make the visit a success. I bought a large traditional puppet, and the concierge wrapped it for traveling. Another small but important touch - knowing that clothing suffers from travel, the hotel policy is to press three items at no charge. The location in the old colonial center is perfect for an afternoon stroll through the history of Malang."Locavore: "Impressive servings"
Going to Locavore is like being at one of your favorite high-end restaurants. They offer food served in ways that you don't consider yourself. They played with ingredients and served it in their lovely place in Ubud. I was surprised by the match between the cocktails and food + the surprise snacks that were served. We recommend going all-in if you visit this place.Villa Song Saigon: "Great location, fantastic food"
Extremely well run hotel, the staff are outstanding. The riverside location is peaceful and stunning. Shuttle or boat to town if you want the bustle. Restaurant is good, but could do with less European dishes and more Vietnamese dishes. Breakfast is excellent, have the Pho.Maison Polanka: "Sublime. The perfect balance in every respect"
Maison Polonka blew me and my friends away. Very rarely do you walk away from a hotel stay speechless at the friendliness, the serenity, the service, and the ability to go above and beyond. From the gardens to the pool, as well as the stunning rooms, Maison Poloka has nailed it. But beyond that, the service was extraordinary, from the first pick up, through to helping get a flight delayed so we would not miss it (!!). Yes, that happened. Attentive without being smothering; friendly and absolutely genuine. I would normally keep such a place a secret, for fear of it getting swamped and me never being able to stay there again - but when it's this good the world needs to know about it and they deserve every booking they get.The Island Lodge: "The perfect oasis of calm and relaxation"
This hotel really is a gem, yes the rooms are lovely, the pool is delightful, and the setting overlooking the Mekong is second to none, but the real quality of the island lodge is in it's staff. The owner personally greets each guest, and the Vietnamese staff, from the manageress to the security guard were all friendly, and incredibly helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast is excellent and the lunch and dinner menu is varied. Prices are relatively high for Vietnam, but not for a hotel of this class. If I had one suggestion, it would be to add a snack or sandwich menu to the food options, there are no alternative restaurants nearby, and sometimes we wanted to just eat something light by the pool.
