Locavore: "Birthday dinner"
Me and my wife loved the experience there and just how creative they were with the menu! Recommend it for a special eveningTugu Lombok: "L’âme Indonésienne"
Très bien.et très spacieuse See more room tips Stayed October 2016, traveled as a couple"Sea Dance Resort: "Great staff, great food at a relaxing boutique resort."
"We searched very carefully for our Koh Samui stay. Coming off of 2 weeks of hard touring around Laos and Cambodia our goal was peace, quiet and relaxation, preferably in a villa on the beach rather than a hotel room. We found Sea Dance and, despite a few mixed reviews here, decided to give it a go. We ended up thrilled that we did. Things did get off to a rocky start: despite a confirmed airport greeting and pickup there was no one to meet us at the airport meeting point. After 15 minutes and a phone call we hopped in a taxi expecting the worst. Instead we were met by the Managing Director/owner Poy with a heartfelt apology. Everyone makes mistakes, and rather than shifting blame or making excuses Poy simply took the fault, apologized and promised to make it up to us. Which he and his staff did do. Perfect service recovery. As for the property itself, we stayed in Villa 1 and cannot recommend it more highly. It’s mostly a glass room but with blackout shades and AC that must be on steroids. During the day we lounged in the private pool or on the very private lounging platform staring at the ocean. At night we opened the glass doors and listened to the sea sipping one of the many wine selections from the restaurant’s wine room. The restaurant serves excellent eclectic food including Thai, other Asian and western food. My favorite was the duck Red curry. My wife loved the steak sandwich for lunch. The beach is ‘meh’. Pebbly and rocky. Gorgeous to look at though. But let’s be clear: what made this place special for us were the people. The staff are just awesome. They call guests by name here (nice Ritz touch!) Beyond Poy, Faith the ex-Pat American manager gave us pro tips on our plans to go digital nomad next year during the included breakfast. Ex-pat English Helen provided excellent service with a healthy dash of wit and a wry smile at dinner. And ex-pat Myanmar ‘John’ serves great drinks and fascinating stories of his life. And those are just the ones we got to know by name. All of the staff were excellent - although it would have helped a bit if the eggs station staff at breakfast spoke at least a little English since we like our omelette well done. We kept thinking that the place ought to go all over-13. The bungalows and social atmosphere at breakfast, happy hour and dinner are really conducive to grown-uping. And we met and made some new Facebook friends there. But, alas, it’s not all-adult so there were babies, toddlers and kids about. That’s where the private pool came in super-handy. This little resort isn’t a highly polished gem. It’s a boutique resort. That’s part of its charm, but too, it means there are minor service gaps and gaffes. Bring bring a relaxed attitude and good nature and you’ll have a great time, no worries and even make new friends. To us, it was just what we wanted just when we wanted it."Mie Cafe: "Excellent lunch"
We went here just after opening - and without a reservation - on a weekday for lunch. We were seated right away. The tasting menu was delicious and the cocktails great. Beautiful garden in front of the restaurant. Beautiful setting in the dining area. Highly recommend!Rachamankha: "Beautiful peaceful retreat in the old city"
Very elegant and quiet with lovely art work and antiques throughout. Excellent service and extensive breakfast. Very nice pool. Small and personal. Puts you in a great mood. They pick you up and take you to the airport as part of the service.Muang La Resort: "Hidden Gem"
After a dreadful drive from Luang Prabang we arrive at the Muang La Resort. This is a delightful place situated next to the Nam Phak river with wonderful views from the rooms. They even have two goats and a wonderful hot spring fed hot tub. Food and drinks are excellent. Well worth a visitSatri House: "Colonial splendor a walking distance from the historical center"
Satri House is a charming colonial style hotel in Luang Prabang in a quiet area of the city. It is a walking distance from the historical center and if you wish some bicycles are as well free of charge at your disposal in the hotel. You can just ask for a lock at the reception. The hotel complex is highly elaborated with some charming rooms in the new part of the property in colonial like buildings that look just like they were conceived at the French colonial period. One older building was the official house of the Laos Crown Prince and you can stay there in three suites with antique furnitures. A pond with lotus flowers, many tress give to the place a very romantic touch. A restaurant with a talented Lao female Chef is at your disposal for delicious meals Lao or Western. Breakfast is served there at your convenience. The staff is particularly nice and friendly and will always do their best to assist you. Take time to have a talk with them as they love to practice foreign languages. The managing director is a young european guy who is very welcoming and will help you make your stay unique. Take time to wander around Luang Prabang and enjoy your time in the hotel itself (the place is great for romance ! Keep it in mind)Villa Song: "New Years Eve Dinner"
"We had Dinner at Villa Song on New Years Eve. The Building is beautiful and when you arrive and walk down the way to the entrance, it looks very enchanting. Everything was lit up with light chains. The table setting was nice and the waiters were very attentive. The special menu for this evening sounded promising and did not disappoint. If I had to say which dish I liked the most I couldn‘t because every single course was delicious and beautifully arranged. The dinner was accompanied by live music and later by traditional vietnamese music. We didn‘t stay overnight this time but it’s definitely on our list."Cuca: "Great food"
We visited Cuca in Jimbaran, after an event at Polperro winery (Red Hill), hosted by the head chef from Cuca. The food at Polperro was amazing and I was really excited to see the restaurant for the first time. I was not disappointed, the textures, presentation and flavours are fantastic and the staff are warm and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed, it's dimly lit and moody, but if you have a preference for more light, you can always sit at the bar over the kitchen and watch the precision of the team. The outside seating area is in a garden, complete with water features and lanterns. The grounds are generous. Price wise it's not over the top, I loved everything this place, so much so, I have booked again for tomorrow night!!4 Rivers Floating Lodge: "Relaxing and very different experience than usual hotel/resort!"
"We stayed here for three nights and had a brilliant experience. I was a bit concerned I would get bored with nothing much to do as I knew it wasn’t possible to go off trekking into the country. However, there were a number of trips at no extra charge. We went on the boat to visit a local village one day and saw how the school operated and the challenges facing the villagers. We were welcomed into the village by the people, cows who strolled down to see us, together with the dogs and chickens! On our way back we were able to kayak down the mangroves and see another aspect of the area and also challenge ourselves ... kayaking is OK if you know how to do it well although we managed not to kayak completely into the mangroves! It was good fun and the guides follow closely to help out. In the evening we took a short trip down to see the fireflies which were amazing but also it was beautiful to see all the stars in the sky which can be a rare sight when you live in a busy UK town. The other trip we took was to the waterfall which was great. It’s trickey to go across the rocks but the guide was really helpful showing us the way and supporting us. You could swim in the water there and it was really warm and a great experience. On each trip we had lunch prepared for us and we could eat it on the boat. Meals were exceptionally good and breakfast was great as you had a number of choices which were brought to you .. so much nicer than wandering around a buffet breakfast. Staff generally were brilliant and all were exceptionally supportive and if they didn’t know the answer to a query would find out the answer for us. Finally, the tent itself. It was so unusual but comfortable and had everything you needed. It didn’t have wi fi etc but that’s not exactly the ‘end of the world’ ... we were there for a different experience and that’s what we got. The bed was really comfortable and it was great when the tent gently rocked sometimes. We would definitely visit again and I could thoroughly recommend it."Travel Asia with Secret Retreats
