The Apsara Rive Droite: "Understated comfort in Luang Prabang"

Review by: expat_ord | Source: Trip Advisor
"Upon arrival at The Apsara, we were met by a very welcoming and gracious staff. And in fact, throughout our stay, they attended to all of our needs and were always very nice and friendly. The hotel itself is located just off the main street in Luang Prabang, on the banks of the Khan River. The location is perfect; just of few shorts blocks from the main downtown area and night market, but on a very quiet one-way street. The rooms are simple, but comfortable and very clean, with a colonial feel to them. However one word of warning: make sure you book a top-floor room. Our hardwood floors squeaked when we walked on them and I felt sorry for the guests in the room below ours. We only ate breakfast at the hotel (and it was always delicious), so I cannot comment on the dinners or other meals the hotel offered. Overall, we loved our stay at The Apsara and I would highly recommend it for anyone visiting Luang Prabang. Room Tip: Hardwood floors, make sure you book a top floor room"

The Village House: "LOVE IT!"

Very romantic and relaxing place. I love the ambience of that place. Staff was very friendly. The place is very isolated and hard to find in the first place. But overall everything was fine and i would love to visit again in the future :)

Cheong Fatt Tze – Blue Mansion: "Wonderful stay at Cheong Fatt Tze / Blue Mansion"

Review by: Jolenelfc | Source: Trip Advisor
"Over the recent Easter long weekend, we decided to take a break in Penang. We picked the Blue Mansion, indigo blue coloured heritage hotel with only 18 rooms after learning about its history and seen some pictures. From the outside, the heritage hotel is hidden behind a high wall so only the roof and part of the building were visible from outside. The hotel also conducts a tour of the hotel, sharing the history as well as the challenging task of restoring the hotel when it was bought over following the death of the last son of the original owner. Hotel guests gets to join the tour for free. We were very fortunate to join the tour on the day that Loh-Lim Lin Lee, current owner of the hotel, was leading the tour. She only does it on Friday at 11am and 2pm. She was a wonderful story teller, sharing about the unique architecture, origins of the materials used in the construction such as colourful history. Beautifully restored with rooms that are a mixed of modern and traditional. We even have a jacuzzi in our bathroom! Highly recommend for a different experience from conventional hotel stay. Stayed March 2017, traveled with friends"

Yandabo Home: "A special place"

Review by: FrancesAndLee | Source: Trip Advisor
"Having enjoyed our river cruise from Bagan, we were whisked by a small boat to arrive at Yandabo Home and a warm greeting from the staff group. A real achievement to create this boutique hotel here, off the beaten track. Simple bedroom with a high quality bathroom and products and food well presented. Friendly staff took us to visit the local villages with tea and biscuits on the way on the boat back a nice touch. Thanks to all the team. Stayed February 2017, traveled as a couple"

Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge: "Perfect peace and relaxation"

Review by: teresa352 | Source: Trip Advisor
"After a hectic 2 week tour in India and Nepal this was a perfect place to relax and unwind before returning to UK. Perched on the top of a steep hill the location is amazing with fantastic views over the Annapurna mountain range and down into the Pokhara valley. One didn't mind getting up at 0545 to watch the sun rise over the mountain range, having been woken by the staff with a pot of tea delivered to the room. At the other end of the day sit on the terrace with tea and home made cakes and biscuits to watch the sun set over the mountains. In between very knowledgeable nature guides cater for all abilities with short or long walks bird and butterfly spotting. Alternatively, relax by the infinity pool gazing across to the mountains. Simple but well cooked and presented food with choice between Nepalese or Continental with most of the food grown locally or on site. All waiter served, hot and fresh from the kitchen. Tea and coffee with home made cake and biscuits on tap whenever you want. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and could not do enough for you. Marcus, the manager took the time to meet and get to know all the guests. It was such a shame that I only had 3 nights there, I would have liked to spend so much longer and experience more nature walks. Fantastic"

Mie Cafe: "Really really good"

Review by: tjwb | Source: Trip Advisor
Went on the recommendation of a local and were blown away by the quality of the cooking here. We weren't surprised to hear that the patron/chef had trained in a Michelin 2 Star in Switzerland. The food shames many one star restaurants I've eaten in elsewhere. We both started with scallop tartare with seaweed and heart of coconut. I followed with Fish Amok and S with a risotto. All just superb. We are going back tonight. Do not miss if you are in town.

Villa Song Saigon: "Great"

A very relaxing place with great gardens and pool. Excellent restaurant and choices of food. Room was very large and comfortable. Good bathroom. Out of town but still only 15 minutes away by speedboat or a bit longer by taxi.

Muang La Lodge: "Something quite special"

Review by: r p | Source: Trip Advisor
"We visited out of season and were the only guests in the resort. We were welcomed by Mr. Xay, the assistant manager, who in the absence of the manager, was running the resort. Both he and his team were absolutely excellent. Although it is likely a lot of the staff were local villagers we had no problems with communication. The rooms are big and very comfortable, they are set around the large gardens some with a balcony view of the river . The swimming pool is set on an island situated in the middle of the river reached via a wobbly bridge. The pool has it's own bar area, which also has cooking facility for light meals. There is a hot tub fed by a natural hot spring. My wife had a massage, which she said was very good. We took one of their excursions , a 4x4 into the hills walking in the forest followed by an excellent packed lunch, which we ate in one of the villages. The guide on this was superb, it involved crossing several streams ;he cut me a bamboo pole to help.We were introduced to, ate and survived, a lot of vegetation we had not come across before The food in the resort was some of the most enjoyable we had in S.E. Asia, eaten outside overlooking the river. An evening 5 course set menu. The Laos beer is good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was excellent with freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolate eggs etc. We were sorry to leave and we are grateful to Mr.Xay and all his courteous, efficient and thoughtful staff for looking after us so well."
