Super meal
Monday January 18th, 2016
"We expected outstanding food and we definitely got it, service was exceptional too, setting very serene and all added to the overall experience, one of delight all round. We even spoke to the chef/owner at the end of the meal and he made the time to speak to us properly and in depth about his concept.
This isn't a complaint in the slightest, but the price was so competitive I expected less than I got! For what we got I would have paid rm250 per head and considered it value for money, each dish and snack very well constructed.

Great experience!
Saturday May 20th, 2017
"Just checked their website and they seemed to have changed their menu! Seems like what I had was a mixture of their old menu and the new one.
Snacks (Choy Sum Nori, Beef Tendons, Mango Curry, Yoghurt and Roselle):
Choy Sum Nori was quite cool and memorable! The others were ... interesting? Could be too weird for some.
Starters (Blue Mackerel, Roast Mushrooms, Grilled Vegetables, Home Made Noodles):
Quite liked the roast mushrooms. Was told to eat from right to left, but perhaps plating it from left to right would be make more sense since most people hold their forks on the left

A culinary adventure
Thursday June 30th, 2016
"It's definitely a trek to get there but the reward far outweighs the hassle! Finally in Malaysia a restaurant brave enough to march to its own tune. Dewakan embodies everything that Malaysians have always known about with regards to flavours and ingredients but has never been able to harness. Here the true beauty of Malaysian food at its highest standard is served with pride. I can rave about each individual dish but I will let the photos speak in my stead.
Speaking to Chef Darren Teoh, the passion and dedication to produce the best is clearly evident. Dewakan is clearly in

Amazing culinary experience
Sunday July 16th, 2017
We have such lovely dining experience there and feel really proud to have such good quality fine dining in Malaysia. We love how they tweaked the local ingredients in every single dish they served even for the cake we separately ordered for our friend (we were there for birthday celebration). The cake was so beautifully presented and the birthday girl was very happy and satisfied with the cake (jackfruit with creamcheese) and of course the entire dinner.

Molecular gastronomy and haute cuisine for traditional Malay flavours
Wednesday July 20th, 2016
"The best meal I have ever eaten, and my wife thought the same. And we have eaten in a lot of excellent restaurants around the world.
This relatively new restaurant must be heading for a Michelin star before very long. The 10 course tasting menu included some of the finest and most surprising dishes I have ever tasted. Outrageously bold and delicious flavour and texture combinations using traditional Malay flavours and local ingredients, served with genuine flair for presentation.
The staff provide wonderful service in this small restaurant currently housed in KDU university buildings.
Go. Go soon before it becomes

Pride of Malaysia: A culinary journey that reflects Malaysia’s heritage
Tuesday January 5th, 2016
"We went for the full works - a 10-course dinner at RM207 per person, and we were not disappointed in the least! Although there are 10 courses described in the menu, we were served a number of finger foods to munch on before the first appetizers were served. , such as fried fish fritters that taste like the traditional East Coast snack, keropok lekor and were shaped like long, elegant twigs that were thought were merely decorative items at first.
The starters included a refreshing razor clam salad, the razor clams being a staple of many local seafood restaurants, but

Extraordinary Gastronomic Experience
Saturday October 29th, 2016
I have been to this restaurants numerous times; every time when they change their menu. Chef Darren never fail to surprise his diners with natural ingredients sourced locally. The staffs were also very attentive and provide excellent service. The menu was also reasonably priced.

Premium quality and services with affordable price
Tuesday October 25th, 2016
Came with partner to celebrate my birthday. Very quiet restaurant with limited space - no other diners except for us. Food taste are hit and a little misses. Was not impressed with the appetizers at first, but when the 2nd main came, it was a game changer, albeit a little over seasoned for us. Ends with very delicious desserts. Some may say, good things comes to those who waits. The restaurant manager and his partner has done a very good job explaining the dishes to us. Fully satisfied with their services. Premium quality and services with affordable price.

Well paced degustation menu, creative
Monday January 8th, 2018
My husband and I took an American guest to Dewakan. We chose the 11 course tasting menu. I was looking forwards to being delighted, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is quiet, and comfortable and we were able to enjoy each course and exchange views on the myriad of tastes exploding in our mouths. I especially loved the Yoghurt & Roselle, which I thought was so well done since each taste emerged one after another. The explanation given by the maitre d' on the ingredients and how to eat each dish added to the enjoyment of the evening. It

It's my first time trying the modern Malaysian cuisine and it was amazing. Never knew that our local ingredients can be so versatile. Kudos to the chef team for their adventurous experiments. Full of surprises and I did enjoy all the new flavors dancing on my palate. Love the wine and fermented beverages pairing.

A star on the fine dining stage of Malaysia
Friday October 20th, 2017
Let me go straight to the point. We went here mid October and tried Dewakan's 17 course menu, one regular and one vegetarian (available upon request when you make your reservation). They dealt with the vegetarian request so, so well. The kitchen created completely new dishes that they'd never had on the menu before - razor clams, squid, red snapper, mushroom tarts, you name it. All presented and explained really well. Lots of delicious courses on both menus. The highlights were the duck (roasted to perfection), the lowland vegetables, the prawn umai, the mango curry and the slow cooked red

Innovative yet true to its Malaysian heritage
Tuesday July 4th, 2017
Dewakan can easily beat some of the Michelin starred restaurants hands down. Chef Darren's creativity with local ingredients, whilst staying true to his Asian roots and elevation in the composition of both in every single dish is remarkable to say the least. Don't skimp or worry bout your diet or whatever - just go for the 10 course dinner. You won't regret it!

Fine Dinning
Tuesday March 28th, 2017
My children organized a birthday dinner for me at the Dekawan restaurant located at the KDU campus in Glenmarie. A real fine dinning with special attention to details as every course is explained before we eat. A quiet and nice place. We enjoyed our dinner and had a good family gathering.

Fine dining with lots of local flavours, something really different
Wednesday January 27th, 2016
"Inexpensive ingredients but the amount of effort put in to make it look so fine. Worth the dining experience. Unlike the usual Western style where you get rosemary / fennel / thyme, we get typical ingredients that can be found in Asian dishes, eg. cumin, ulam, green curry paste, local flowers.
The 5 courses lasted from 8pm till midnight and staffs were already tired by then. It was so obvious we could tell it from their expressions and all. Well I feel bad for making them stay up, but then again, we don't decide when the dishes should come out

Amazing restaurant – GO!

"When we watched John Torode's Malaysia programme back in the UK , he showed this place and so we booked it for our last night in KL. I have to admit as it got closer I got concerned that we had made a mistake. No malaysian we spoke to in KL had heard of the place and it soon became apparent that it was on the outskirts of town, a good hour away from central KL and forms part of the KDU campus. I need not have worried however.

Three Stars or 3 Hats….. in our books
Sunday March 19th, 2017
"""The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply"" - Kahlil Gibran. This perfectly sums up what Darren Teoh and his team at Dewakan are doing. I profess guilty to being surrounded with these wonderful ingredients and yet be clueless as to their potential. Darren is taking these humble ingredients, injecting playful creativity and reintroducing them into the fore where they belong. Here one can expect to have boundaries challenged, pushed and yet moulded into familiarity. In this off the beaten path kitchen, flavours and textures are being routinely forged. Whilst I appreciate that everyone has

An Excellent International Standard Dining with a great experience of local recipes
Tuesday January 9th, 2018
Although the journey into the restaurant is a bit difficult to find, however, I am guarantee you will not regret on the quality of the dining experience to another level. This restaurant has been using a lot of local ingredients which the Chef himself, source all these around the entire Malaysia. Normally, we experience these ingredients through the local cuisine; but here at Dewakan, the Chef has been improvising these ingredients to a high level of dining standard, which is I can call it as Fine Dining standard. Please do not expecting some food like caviar or fois gras, it

Amazing fine dining experience
Monday August 21st, 2017
We had the 17-course menu and loved every course. The dishes were beautifully made up and each had delicate flavours. It was great to experience a combination of real western fine dining (finally, a restaurant that gets it) combined with Asian flavours and ingredients. Service was great. So was the wine. The staff can give you good wine pairing advice. Don't hesitate, just go here - it's worth every cent! And yes it's a bit far out, but it is definitely worth the traveltime as well!

A Revelation
Monday November 13th, 2017
"Many Europeans find the traditional Malaysian Cuisine challenging, with blachang , ikan bilis and fiery sambals. However at the Dewakan you will experience a startling transformation ! The chef has worked in Denmark at Noma, regarded by many as the best restaurant in the world were only local produce is used.
The Chef has taken this concept to Malaysia and uses only local raw materials except for the lamb. The result is amazing. This new take on traditional Malaysian dishes is very appealing both in taste and presentation. Do not miss this experience !"

Amazing
Wednesday November 2nd, 2016
"This restaurant is out of the centre of KL about 35 minutes without traffic an hour with. Don't let this put you off. The food is spectacular and from an international perspective reasonably priced. We had the 10 course degustation which with 3 pre entrees and an extra dessert worked out at 14 different and very interesting dishes for RM250(I think).
The food while paying homage to Malaysia is very much modern cuisine. Every dish was unique."

“In the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, located in the Klang Valley, Dewakan is an unassuming venue with an ambitious vision for epicureans. Chef Darren’s ingenious 11-course and 17-course tasting menus creatively re-interpret the use of local ingredients in a manner reminiscent of his apprenticeships across several Michelin star restaurants.”,

Restaurant Description
Dewakan is a portmanteau of the Malay words ‘dewa’, to mean god, and ‘makan’, meaning ‘to eat’. The passionate and creative team at Dewakan honour and serve the bounty of the local lands, celebrating local farmers, fishers, and artisans. Chef Darren Teoh combines and connects indigenous ingredients and produce from Malaysia’s farms and jungles, mountains and seas, manifesting onto the plates as a culinary canvas.
Dewakan is a nationally, and regionally, lauded restaurant that honours and serves the blessings from local lands. An evening at Dewakan makes for a singular Malaysian modern dining experience, drawing from chef Darren’s clarity and coherence in manifesting his passion for produce, and respect for the integrity of ingredients and the environment.
Chef Darren makes food that creates memories. Every ingredient has its place and purpose. A locavore’s haven and heaven, Dewakan combines and connects indigenous ingredients and produce from nearby farms and jungles, Malaysian mountains and seas, creating a menu of modern Malaysian cuisine, full of twists and technical flourishes. The two menus at Dewakan – the Kayangan and the Nusantara – are hinged upon a manifesto of fresh, naturalised or indigenous ingredients that celebrate and respect culinary traditions, creativity and terroir.
Dining at Dewakan is an entire experience for which we recommend that you kindly set aside the evening. The menu is painstakingly put together, and the restaurant goes to great lengths to ensure that you enjoy the evening through a series carefully cultivated courses. Dewakan greatly appreciate that you pre-order your menu.
