Your Host and The Team
“When we decided to save the mansion, it needed urgent work to replace rotting floors and joists. The project began in 1992. What followed was a labour of love that spanned three years. During the restoration we were careful to preserve the spirit of the building and the man that lavishly spent so much money to build it, Cheong Fatt Tze. Today, it gives us great pleasure to watch life in it almost as it was back then. Indulge in the magnificence of Penang’s celebrated heritage while making yourself right at home.”

Facilities and Highlights
- Swimming pool size: 10 x 3 m
- Indigo restaurant is inspired by Cheong Fatt Tze himself, offering a marriage between East and West not just in the setting, but also the cuisine. The interior was designed to complement and enhance the cuisine which it serves, acting as a reflection of the ever- evolving culinary palette presented by Chef Weng.
- Listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, Penang is filled with authentic and sumptuous local cuisines, fascinating art displays and murals, educational museums and enclaves of lush tropical forests. With its roots dating 3,000 years back to the Su Chow dynasty, the Blue Mansion embodies a confluence of Hakka and Teochew styles along with intrinsic Southern Chinese typologies and materials.
- While monumentally traditional in design, the Blue Mansion also bears an eclectic architectural trait that exemplifies the 19th century era and demonstrates both Cheong Fatt Tze’s deepening fascination with Western artisanship and his rising stature as a Chinese official. During its time, The Blue Mansion was a striking beauty that stood out from the modern Anglo-Indian abodes in the city. Today, it still stands as a paragon of the traditional Chinese courtyard mansion, crystallizing the harmonious blend of Chinese and Western architecture in Penang.
