MesaStila: "Colonial Elegance and Very Relaxing"
"The resort is 30-40 buildings assembled on a beautiful plateau. The original plantation house has been restored and elegant yet unique. The staff was polite, friendly, professional and extremely helpful through our entire visit. The breakfast is very good and includes different options of Indonesian and western food. I especially enjoyed the homemade yogurt The spacious villas look like something out of a film set with a huge king size teak four poster bed, antique furniture and lamps, wooden shutters, a day couch overlooking the balcony, and a lovely bathroom including a huge tub and luxurious towels. The villa was well-kept and very clean. The hotel has a daily complimentary coffee plantation walking tour which was excellent. We really enjoyed learning about the 4 different types of coffee plants and the history of MesaStila. The hotel spa is great. We had complimentary neck and shoulder massages. My wife enjoyed the varied spa packages."MesaStila Resort and Spa: "Amazing"
"very good place with amazing views and facilities. The resort crews were also very helpful and kind to support and assist us during our stay there. I stayed there as domestic guest and it was still worth to stay. Don't miss the coffee tour and local batik making!"Slow Villas and Spa: "Amazing place"
"Nice an relaxing. Great service. All the mod cons. Probably the most luxurious accommodation on the island. The Indonesian BBQ that you can order on request is amazing. Great aircon, pool, beds, little kitchen and even a USB with shows on it in case you want a lazy afternoon watching Human Planet, Bikes and lights supplied. Great architecture, happy helpful staff. Massage included, yoga sessions, Pilates. Just Amazing"Villa Song Saigon: "Amazing"
This is the best hotel I've ever stayed at. From the food to the great staff, I couldn't ask for a better experience. We were greeted by the manager and staff with the utmost charm and led to an incredible room. The pool and the restaurant were amazing as well. If you're looking for a place to stay that is quiet and beautiful, choose Villa Song.Rachamankha: "Masterpiece"
"We stayed 5 days for our anniversary and we enjoyed our time staying in this hotel. 1. Convenient location, only 20 mins drive from airport and 10 mins drive to night bazzar. 2. Artful structure, the hotel itself is the masterpiece and it is covered with collectibles of the owner, orchids are everywhere, you must visit their library 3. Peaceful atmosphere, quite & clean room, it is a great place for relax and stress relief. Friendly staffs (and their GM Paul Walker) are so helpful. Free wifi available for me to stay connected to the world. 4. Great chefs, delicious breakfast (no words), dinner is even better (must try their Myanmar curry and mango sticky rice wrap)"Supanniga Eating Room: "Fab authentic Isaan food, in comfortable premise"
"It's easy to find average thai food in Bangkok, but this place has consistently served up high quality Isaan food, in an atmospheric building with super helpful staff. It's not cheap but as varied and interesting as street food It's tough to find - go to thong lor and the up the Soi about 400 m. It is just before the 8ight shopping centre. You have to look hard as it is Narrow, 4 storey Building with the sign hidden by power cables in the street Book a table as I was disappointed once - this place is very popular with Locals and expats especially at weekends The food is derived from Isaan favourites and put together by grandma! I can say that everything we tried was outstanding. Particular favs were the Isaan sausage, fab red and green curries, noodles. One friend said this was the best restaurant he had ever been to - big call. Enjoy"Glenburn Tea Estate: "Pearl surrounded by tea bushes"
This hotel doesn't only welcome you at their doorstep, but already at the airport of Bagdogra: the driver offers you a cold drink and wet towels to get you set for the three and a half hours drive to the estate. On the way, you are offered real Glenburn tea, sandwiches (which we really liked) and cake. How English. The trip to the hotel is a long one and the last 45 minutes are like sitting in a blender. But it is all more than worth it: the setting of this hotel is absolutely gorgeous: the tea plantation surrounds the beautiful house and the view on the Himalaya is stunning. We were warmly welcomed by the English couple who manage the hotel on behalf of the Calcutta-based owners and they do an excellent job in making certain the guests are comfortable. We stayed in the old property in a spectacular room with a huge bed, fireplace and small garden room (it was, indeed, the room we requested. In advance they would not confirm the room to us, and to be hones, considering the price this hotel charges, we find it incorrect that they should not accept reservations for specific rooms). All service you could think of is included in the price. We love the 'bed tea': a serving of tea in your room just after you wake up. Also, it was quite a treat that you could ask for tea and cake at all times of the day. The (western) breakfast is good, but the homemade jam was more like a mash than a jam. The specials were delicious and also the homemade muesli (with home made yoghurt). The dinner was served on a large table with all guests (you can opt out, and have a private dinner). Although this sometimes takes a bit getting used to, we enjoyed talking with the various guests. The food was mostly delicious, but there were some misses here and there. The hotel is quite a distance from Darjeeling and Kalimpong, but the hotel can arrange your visit there, too (driver is included in the price). Having said that, the trip is quite long and we were content with visiting only Darjeeling on one day, and we spend the rest of our time reading, touring the tea factory (including tasting: amazing how different all the teas taste), making walks through the tea plantation and to the river (where the hotel organized a pleasant BBQ. Heed their warning to put DEET on. I forgot a spot on my arm and the small flies got me good; it itched for days after!) They have wifi in the hotel, but the connection is terrible. It is typically a location to relax after an exhausting trip through Nepal, Bhutan or India, so we would recommend staying at least three nights; a shorter stay doesn't seem worth the trouble. We would not be surprised if we found ourselves staying here again!Reverie Siam Pai: "Best couple getaway in Pai"
This could be one of the best kept secret place in Pai. We stayed in a mountain view suite which is very spacious. The hotel is so lovely and the food at the main restaurant is so good that we were really reluctant to go anywhere. A perfect stay!Muang La Lodge: "Northern Laos a very special spa resort"
"Situated on a river with hot springs and nestled in beside a small village this Hotel taught us more about high quality cuisine and life in Laos than any other. It was unseasonably cold but with coal fires in buckets (!) at each table and a large fire pit close by we were never cold. Hotwater bottles in the beds, hot thermal tubs on stilts in amongst the trees, a pool on an island, I think you must be getting the picture that this is a pretty special place. From the hotel we visited hill villages and this is a great place to hike from. Picnics, 4x4 vehicles and guides, transfers etc all organised by this hotel. It is a remote part of Laos and therefore very unspoilt. This is a gem of a hotel in such a far away place "Rachamankha: "felt like I was in a movie"
This hotel is an oasis in the middle of the mad old city of Chaing Mei. The hotel is like something out of an old movie, and one expects Hercule Poirot or Humprey Bogart to stroll through one of the doors and no one would take any notice. My husband and I stayed for six nights and thoroughly enjoyed the place, and even after six nights we were still staring at the beautiful serene surrounds. One of the great benefits was to use the hotel car on out of town excursions of which I thoroughly recommend. However things worth looking out for is the tuk tuk lurking outside the gates. This guy will try to organise your itinerary for your whole time to suit his time and purse, resist and do not try him out, and beware of the hotel staff recommending him as this guy will drop off where you certainly dont want to go
