Amata Lanna: "Hidden paradise"
"2 minutes walk from a charming river temple, this wonderful traditional thai-sytle hotel on two storeys is highly recommendable, to say the least. Set around a beautiful inner courtyard dominated by a large frangipani tree with star-shaped white flowers which fall from time to time into an oval swimming pool, you can sit and relax after a long day's sightseeing, contemplate the early morning over a delicious partially outdoor breakfast among huge ferns and thai garden ornaments, or sit and sip beer or free lemon-grass tea in the evening by the swimming pool with the trees lit up around you. The rooms, set around the courtyard, are spacious with 4-poster beds and thai furniture. If you want more light, go for the upper floor, but you are destined probably from all rooms to see the greenery from the windows. I thought the staff could have become my personal friends the way they were so personable. They had two bicycles that were for lending without charge and transport free to the airport in at least one direction. One night I got back very late and didn't want to go out on the dark streets alone, so I suggested getting a couple of mangoes to the night staff from the mango bowl in the reception area. Since they never charged me for this, the least I can do is write a review! To make one request for improvement I would ask for mosquito nets on at least one window in the hotel rooms so that you can enjoy the evening air in your own room in the cooler months without the risk of insects coming in. However, this is not probably a feature in many thai hotels, including all top hotels, as most people these days just want the air conditioning, which of course this hotel has."Samanea Beach Resort: "Outstanding hotel!"
"his was our second stay in 2015 at the Samanea Beach Resort. And once again we were not dissapointed. This stay was for six days in December 2015, and what a time we had!! The Samanea is by far the best choice in Kep, also compared to the fancy more downtown place. Here at Samanea Beach you get our own individual house in a lush tropical garden. Our house was again VERY comfortable. Huge king bed, sofa arrangement, dresser, wardrobe and in general very spacious living. All amenities from a 4-5 star hotel. The bath room is almost the best part. It's situated en suite but outdoors in your own totally private yard. Very nice, romantic and comfortable. Restaurant, pool area, private beach, private pier - hey just look at the pictures. It's just a WONDERFUL place. The staff is great. Especially the guys working in the restaurant are just fantastic! Only hickup: the wifi could be better!"4 Rivers Floating Lodge: "Serene retreat away from the city"
We had a wonderful stay - the staff were fantastic and made us very welcome on this floating camp. My partner celebrated her birthday and as a surprise they prepared one tent for our evening meal, complete with soft lighting, sweet music and then at the end they came to serenade us - very special!!Tugu Bali: "Entrancing trip back in time seductive and excellent"
"A quick drive apres arriving at Denpasar we bear down on this enclave with its own laidback vibe. Its got all the blah-blah yoga resorty stuff that allow people to reconnect with parts of themselves they should keep private. Entry is via a huge open foyer, supported by towering teak beams, with history everywhere. Our room is unique furnished with ancient artworks and a giant four-poster even bigger than ours back home. Dowenstairs is a private pool. Everything reeks of history of art deco. Its an entrancing trip back in time allowing us no chance to resist the hotel's seductive charms."The River Resort: "Mekong glorious"
"We got upgraded for being the first Taiwanese visitors in its much venerated history (lol) and the river view is so very good, even a terrible photographer could shoot a photo with hues like Apocalypse Now or King Kong. Food is actually unexpectedly good, all the staff are wonderful people, I could not come up with anything to complain except that it's kinda weird with hotel this big and visitors this scarce, a bit ""Get Out"" as my friends and I had consensus upon."Cheong Fatt Tze – Blue Mansion: "Contemporary luxury in a historic mansion"
"Checked into The (lovingly restored) Blue Mansion for a two-night stay in December 2016, my first visit despite having been past the building on previous trips to Penang. From the warm hospitality, comfortable beds, clean big rooms (lovely bathroom a big plus with me), antique furniture, breakfast in the courtyard to coming back to a dim sum basket of local 'kuih' (cakes / sweets) with a handwritten note every evening was a lovely touch - the whole experience was memorable and in my opinion, worth returning for. Pro tip: the hotel is conveniently located next to a food court serving local delights, and across Georgetown Wines for that cheeky vino or late night tapas - thank me later! The Mansion is also home to Indigo, a fine dining restaurant which I tried, enjoyed and highly recommend. For those wanting to learn about the mansion's history, guided tours by some very passionate locals run daily at 11.00am, 2.00pm and 3.30pm - definitely something to fit into your travel itinerary. All in all, a strong contender for a unique experience. Stayed December 2016, traveled with friends"The Village House: "Relaxing and Beautiful, Great Food and Friendly Staff"
Our experience at Village House was excellent. The guesthouse has been carefully planned and attention paid to every detail. It is very beautiful and comfortable. The food here was way above expectations - delicious and fresh and a great mix of local as well as western food. Surprisingly they had a very good selection of wines. We did try the Pina Colodas by Miss Flora (we had read about them on Trip Advisor) and yes, she does a great job! But the highlight of the trip was the sweet and accomodating staff. They did everything possible to make our stay as relaxing and stress free as possible. My family and I would like to thank them all. You should not miss the chance to stay at Village House!Supanniga Luxury Bangkok River Cruises: "Nice and Cozy"
"I went on the cruise in late winter (beginning of Jan), still not that hot and humid. Went on the cruise at Their small eating room which is nice location and nice traditional Thai food. Cruise Staff is really nice and smiley, drinks are good. Fantastic decoration. Love it!!"Rahai’i Pangun: "Wonderful relaxing and informative weekend"
"We flew from Jakarta on Friday and stayed the night at Aquarius hotel (probably best available even though only mediocre, but food surprisingly good, especially dinner) We were picked up at 8.30 am by Eva who proved to be an excellent, charming, chatty, well informed and intelligent guide who really made the weekend an excellent one. The company should be very happy to have her on the staff, even though the others were also good and friendly. Everything was good or excellent: - two of us had the boat to ourselves -in fact the only improvement would have been some extra interesting guests - but we enjoyed it anyway - ample, delicious food - interesting trip to the village, even though rather more modernised than one might hope - apparently it's now rather difficult to find a genuine untouched forest village - charming ""oldest man"" who sold us some delicious spiced coffee made with beans from his own garden - beautiful, serene boat trip on the big boat, and even better when we switched to the small boat for the last trip through the swamp to the information centre - awesome trips in the small boat round the islands where the Orang Utans live before they are released - boat is better than walking as you can get very close without disturbing them - highly informative and thought-provoking briefing at the information centre Important thing to remember is that the Borneo Orang untan Society are doing a great job for an animal which shares 97% of its DNA with humans and showed us many aspects of their behaviour (such as the playful greeting at the information centre) which made them seem like us. They are also successful both in rehabilitating, reclaiming habitats and educating people not to kill the animals. And every trip with Wow includes a donation to the BOS, as well as showing local people they can earn a living from conservation-related activities (in line with their traditional beliefs of respect for nature)."Le Du Wine Bar & Restaurant: "Excellent"
"We went to Le Du last night and had a wonderful dinner. Everything was great: food was delicious, very creative, marrying perfectly the modern cuisine with a Thai touch. The chef also put an accent on using sustainable products. The wine list is very complete with lots of ""bio"" wine, probably a personal selection from the chef/sommelier, the price is very reasonable. The service was dynamic, friendly though precise and professional with staff speaking very good English. The young talented chef had successfully ""imported"" the modern fine dining concept from USA to Bangkok and made of Le Du unmissable on Bangkok culinary scene."Travel Asia with Secret Retreats
