Satri House: "Authentic Experience"
"Satri House delivers on its promise of being ""a historic destination, a unique design"". The original house was run as a hotel since 2002 and was extended in 2008 reflecting the original architecture. We stayed over Songkran for 4 nights and were warmly welcomed by Jacques Mury (General Manager) and Navinda Imbubpa (Guest Experience Manager). On arrival to the room, we were impressed by the handwritten welcome note from Jacques. Whilst it is true that the hotel is located close to a fairground (the source of techno music correctly referred to in the previous review), we understand that Luang Prabang is always tranquil and that the volume we experienced was limited to this New Year festival only. We reflected on the importance of a pre-visit study. Notwithstanding this, Satri House is an amazing hotel. The renovation mirrors the original house perfectly. The Satri House team is attentive and caring. Key takeaways: # the staff is incredibly warm and greet you with sincerity # the housekeeping and gardener teams are amazing # the breakfast is plentiful. We recommend the freshly made noodle soup # the restaurant is terrific. We ate in many restaurants during our visit and will review them separately. We found the quality of the food at the Satri House restaurant to be equal to our better dining experiences # we love the two pools. Whilst we agree that the main pool could do with more lounges, we note that there are additional lounges at the second pool # the hotel is not located in the centre of the (small) city of Luang Prabang. It is in fact a 15-20 min walk to the city centre. The hotel does provide complimentary lockable bicycles with baskets that will get you there in 5-8 minutes One suggestion is to resolve the positioning of the Google Maps location pin. I am confident that when return to Satri House outside of the New Year festival, we will rate our experience as excellent."Misool Eco Resort: "🌴☀️🐟 Рай на земле 🌴☀️🐟"
Stayed January 2017, traveled with friends"Manda De Laos: "Elegant dining, beautiful setting, first rate"
We wanted to have dinner at Manda de Laos, but it was sold out for a corporate event. After being convinced that our Caucasian features would prevent us from slipping in unnoticed with this predominantly Thai business group, we settled on lunch. The food was traditional Lao, informed by classic French technique. We had salad rolls, green papaya salad, roast duck, grilled fish, vegetables and plenty more. All was delicious. And the setting is magnificent. It is all open air seating, built around UNESCO Lotus Ponds with tables on little boardwalks surrounding them. When we went by to make the reservation, there was a man in a small boat floating around pruning the rushes and making everything just so. Service was excellent as was the food, the ambiance and the entire visit. We walked by later that evening to see the entire street backed up with vans dropping off the corporate guests and felt glad to have been able to get in at all. I am sure it is lit beautifully at night, but during the day, we could see the lotus ponds in all their glory. Highly recommended, but reserve early. It is pricey for Laos, but a bargain in any other part of the world.Hotel Tugu Malang: "A warm feeling of excellence in hospitality!"
"Selamat datang, traveller - you can rest now after your long journey as a member of the family. Let us take care of all you might wish, and just relax! Built in 1992,this luxury boutique hotel offers the pleasure of very spacious rooms with extremely comfortable beds arranged as a big (colonial) house around a nice garden with pool. After afternoon tea with the sumptuous specialities of the kitchen on a nice colonial garden terrace just next to the busy square, we were led to explore the house full of antiquities and art collection. The presidential suite is worth a detour. Next to the restaurant there is a cosy smoker's room(well ventilated) to enjoy cocktails, wine, whiskey and other liquids you might have missed.. We had dinner at another place, but surely the restaurant food will be great - we could savour it the next morning with the huge choice of breakfast - European, American, Chinese and local... Lots of healthy options as well. As to the staff: English speaking, they are there should you have any questions or wishes, always friendly and helpful!! Worth the detour, even from Jakarta! Terimah kasih!"Tugu Lombok: "Quirky and awesome"
We spent four nights in two Bhagavat Gita ocean front suites at the end of a three week trip through Indonesia. We did not spend much time outside the Hotel Tugu, there is not much to do around. However that was just fine with us. Hotel Tugu was wonderful. It is very, very nice, luxurious in many ways but not in a polished way like a Four Seasons. It is a huge place and the grounds are beautiful, as are the many structures. We loved the restaurants and bars, the food was fantastic, as was all of the service. The staff is warm and we felt special but not like the Ritz Carlton where everyone knows your name because they whisper it in their lapel microphones. The wait staff came to know our names and preferences. The manager of the property is fantastic. The rooms are some what rustic in a very nice way. The outdoor baths were a delight to us. The beach was nice but not good for swimming due to rocks. They have an amazing pool and we had private plunge pools. I was disappointed in the workout room. We were there during Ramadan, there are several mosques nearby, and different from anywhere else where we've experience Ramadan and the call to prayer, they sang all night long. We had to wear earplugs to sleep, but that made it fine. We highly recommend the Hotel Tugu. It is one of the favorite places we have stayed.Cuca: "Fun and creative food"
"Our party of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids) came for dinner. We were a bit surprised that they had a kids menu. The kids really enjoyed their meals, although the portions were pretty tiny for 10-12 yr olds. We had some really fun cocktails including a tropical sangria and lime mojito. They started us with a taste of cotton candy coated with spices. We ordered a bunch of tapas to share including -mushroom fritters which were really good, I would get this again. -baked scallop w/mashed cauliflower: tasty and creamy cauliflower went really well with the scallop, I'd get this again. -roasted pork bun with pickled cabbage; good but definitely but definitely not the best (Momofuku) -smoked butterfish w beetroot cream- nice smokey flavor, solid dish -honey baked pumpkin salad w crunchy granola, a signature dish which was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the crunchy granola w the pumpkin -crispy fried chicken, pretty good and tasty but nothing that special -bbq octopus was ok -marinated pulled pork w soft boiled egg was ok, flavors were ok but not spectacular, wouldn't get this again. -clay pot mushroom rice was good with lots of mushrooms, portion was a bit small. -dessert cocoa99 was really yummy, warm chocolate w mint ice cream and cocoa croutons- I love mint & chocolate so this was great for me. -caramel apple w black pepper ice cream- ice cream was very interesting. Overall we had a really fun meal. Service was great, they were really friendly and nice. It was great to come in a big group to get to try a lot of different dishes. I would recommend Cuca for a nice meal out in Jimbaran."Hotel Tugu Bali: "Met all my expectations."
We stayed at the Tugu for one night (two were planned but the volcano didn't allow us to fly into Denpasar) and we wished we could have stayed longer. After our adventures(broken leg, volcano eruptions, etc..) the Tugu was the perfect place to relax and just enjoy. We booked the Tugu so our son could get some surfing in. I have a tendency to read some of the negative reviews before booking a hotel, and I have to say in my opinion they were completely wrong. I really enjoyed the authentic decor of the hotel and the calmness of the fishponds and the outdoor bathrooms. Jenny, the manager was lovely and very helpful. If you like Canggu, I think this is the place to stay.Slow Villas and Spa: "Le paradis sur terre"
"Stayed here two days for business to avoid the usual ""Hilton, Hyatt ,,,"" routine and didnt regret that. The position to the river is unique altough if you are heading for the city centre you have to face either a boat trip or a longer taxi lift. Rooms are modern, sleeping quality very good. The restaurant cant decide what is the focus on (they call it fusion). Breakfast only week point I can name (e.g. if you order ""bread basket"" you would expect butter, jam etc coming along with this, but here it means only bread so you have to ask for every item). Staff beautiful trained."The Hue House: "Wonderful dinner"
Really enjoyed our dinner here. Came here with our friends and we were all happy. The food was typical from Hue - the centre of Vietnam. The flavors were so good with authentic tastes and very tasty. Staff is friendly and attentive
