Discover Muang La | Visit Laos | Luxury & Boutique Hotel: "Beautiful, peaceful, luxurious, a class act"
"The title sums up how we felt about this magical place. The location in Muang La is perfect - far from the disney-land tourist circuit of Luang Prabang (and a beautiful but bendy 5-6 hour drive from there as well!), it's remote but therefore also perfectly situated for exploring the nearby rugged countryside with organised private trecks through the hills, visits to the various ethnic groups and their time-locked villages, followed by a dip in their own natural hot spring and a delicious 5 course meal every evening overlooking the river. The managers Raphael (Swiss) and Job (Dutch), are at the top of their game and do a magnificent job of making you feel like royalty from the moment you arrive until the moment they wave you goodbye on your onward journey. I advise booking at least 4 nights, a package which includes free beer and wine at dinner as well as a free massage and gives enough time to really settle down and experience it all. If you visit Northern Laos and have the budget (not cheap but looking back it feels like truly great value), this place is a must."Satri House: "Perfection in Luang Prabang"
"We recently stayed three nights at the beautiful Satri House and loved every bit of our stay. The hotel seems straight out of a travel magazine as it is decorated very stylishly but simply, without skimping on luxury. It's a quiet oasis to return to after a day of sightseeing - have a beer Lao and a relaxing swim at the beautiful pool! The location is ideal - just a few minutes bike ride to town, and on a quiet street away from the main drag. The staff is wonderful: kind, attentive, and one of the best parts of the stay. They easily made dinner reservations and arranged private excursions; they even went out of their way to get us bubble wrap for things we had bought. No complaints at all about this gem of a hotel in beautiful Luang Prabang - can't wait to return one day!"Tugu Malang: "Very beautiful place with a lot of antique furniture"
Very nice place to stay and very good price with fantastic services. The restaurant menus just simply the most delicious food you can get. The traditional way of presentation is very interesting and beautifully done.Nimmu House: "Amazing place for a relaxing & peaceful stay in Leh"
"We arrived in early May and were the first guests of the season. PROPERTY: It's a beautiful property with tons of apricot, apple & walnut trees which were in full bloom. The courtyard / terrace with comfortable seating & hammocks was paradise. One could spend an entire day lazing in the sun, gazing at the amazing views and spotting beautiful birds that would fly by and occasionally perch on the trees to feed (the photographs cannot do it justice - no offense to the photographer). The WIFI is patchy when it works, and that added to the charm of being totally disconnected. ACCOMODATIONS: As it was too cold (especially at night) we stayed in the heritage rooms instead of the tents. The rooms are cozy though small. They have all the basis amenities and the beds are comfortable. The hot water bottles & space heater (when the power was on) made the rooms bearable at night. The typical Ladakhi furniture was a nice touch. Though, watch out for the narrow and short doorways, after a couple of bumps we got used to them. THINGS TO DO: We were there for just 3 days (our only regret was we couldn't stay longer). The first day was spent relaxing on the property to acclimatize, which was a treat by itself. The manager gave us tour of the house and the history of the house and the family that owns it is fascinating (we got to meet some of family and they are gracious and friendly and it was a pleasure meeting them). We also visited the Alchi & Likir monasteries which were built in the 11th century and are very well preserved with beautiful paintings/murals. We also did a day trip to Pangong Tso, which was amazing and a must do. The hotel management made all the arrangements and they were top notch. [A heads-up though, the hotel only accepts CASH (no credit cards); so bring enough!]. MANAGEMENT & STAFF: The best thing for us about Nimmo House, is the management & staff. Couldn't say enough nice things about them. They treated us as family (in a good way!!). It was a pleasure to get to know all of them, hearing their fascinating stories about what brought them to to this remote place from all over the world and their experiences in Ladakh."Chakrabongse Villas & Residences: "Hospitality and Location"
Exceptional location and warm hospitality. Our family of four booked one of the river suites and one of the garden rooms for 4 days over Christmas. First off, the property is a gem in the heart of the historic area. It makes it very easy to walk to many of the top sites, take the ferry, see the flower and medicine markets and more. Secondly, both Atom and Ohm and their warmth made the stay exceptional. They provided so much historical and local knowledge that was pure gold. Thirdly, the owner, the third generation from one of the last kings, was in town, and she kindly sent around champagne for Christmas. A nice touch. And finally, the river view for dinner and breakfast was lovely. This is a true oasis in the heart of Bangkok. Skip the soulless hotel and experience a Thai boutique villa. Thank you again, Atom and Ohm!4 Rivers Floating Lodge: "<3"
A few days before the trip, I happened to feel insecure about the trip. Because it was my first time to go such an adventurous place without my family members. As the day came, i still joined with my friends. My first impression about the hotel was the "Security" that they gave to me. I was actually over thinking about how dangerous it was to visit a place located in the middle of the river surrounded by the forest. But I felt relieved as they did everything they could to have my trust. My second impression was the interaction between the people and the environment. It was so refreshing and beautiful. That's how the nature is supposed to be like. My third impression would be the hotel, 4 Rivers Floating Lodge itself. It was incredibly amazing how the products that were placed in the hotel were actually could be decomposed and not going to effect the environment. The facilities that we needed in our daily life were placed in the hotel too even though it's on the river. I felt so safe and secure because they provided materials that could save us in some cases. The people were so nice and polite. The foods was great in every meals and the transportation was good too. I've learned something new there. I hope to visit that place again <3JL Studio: "A magician Chef!"
"With the talented creative sense of Chef Jimmy, a beautiful presentation, a deeply researched concept, a friendly team for service, JL Studio has found the magic formula to surprise. Young chef, young team, new place... yet a solid experience that transports us with brio into the imaginary world of the Chef. CONGRATULTIONS!"The River Resort: "Magical spot on the mighty Mekong"
This is a peaceful and tranquil spot, views of the river and surrounding mountains are stunning. Sunrise over the water was mesmerising. Chamapasak is a sweet little town and Wat Phou, an enchanting temple complex, is a short moped ride away. The staff were charming and attentive and helpful.Dewakan: "Amazing experience – does justice to local produce!"
"What an amazing experience, we were blown away by the flavours - almost exploding in our mouths at every bite. The last time I experienced something similar was in Heston Blumenthal's Dinner restaurant in London, so I would say this is pretty close! We were amazed at what they could do with locally sourced ingredients and they truly did justice to Malaysian flavours. Kudos to the team there. Highly recommended to try at least once!"Le Du Wine Bar & Restaurant: "Awesome fine dining in Bangkok"
"I managed to get a reservation here during a recent business trip to Bangkok. The restaurant was also incredibly accommodating to my schedule as I wasn't sure when I was going to land and get through the airport so I booked it for late, but they were willing to let me arrive earlier than my reservation. The restaurant is small and intimate though the tables were quite spread out so one could still have some privacy during dinner. Most of the patrons though were foreigners though one thai couple did come in during the night. The chef could be seen working closely with his team in the back and more often than not, would also come out to the serving area where another crew of 3-4 chefs would finalize the various dishes. Lots of people would ask to take pictures with the young chef (next time I will as well). I had their four course menu as I wasn't feeling super hungry and I was happy. I wouldn't have been able to eat the full chef tasting menu (six courses which a near by table ordered). I ordered a white and then a red glass of wine and again it was perfect for me. In the end, I was completely stuffed and very impressed with the quality of the food. It was a mix of thai mixed with western style preparation that just blew me away. I would come back here next time I am in Bangkok. One interesting note, I originally thought my server was from the US as she had what appeared to be a strong American accent, but it turned out that she had studied at a local international school which I guess were taught by American professors."
