"We booked this hotel quite a while ago and having read some of the more recent reviews I had started to get a little worried. I meed not have worried! We stayed here for 3 nights with our children (14&12). We were the only guests in the hotel at the time. We had two rooms which were joined by a living room and two large bathrooms. Beautiful. The hotel arranged our airport transfer which I would recommend. The pool is lovely and although they had problems with the filter at the time we stayed they had this fixed. The area around the pool is beautiful. The breakfast choice is limited but don't let that put you off the food was wonderful. I recommend the noodle soup. We ate lunch by the pool one day and it was beautifully presented and very tasty. All the staff were friendly and helpful. They organised a tuk tuk driver for us to take us to the temples. Chet was great, he would explain things to us and point places out on the way. He also took us to the silk factory one morning (well worth a visit). The girls were given a complimentary facial which they thoroughly enjoyed. I booked a full body scrub which was delightful. When we arrived back at our room each night the hotel had left us local cakes - this was such a sweet thought. The hotel is a little way out of the town but we enjoyed the peace that this gave and also the journeys in and out of the town - a great way to see a little more of the area. I would happily recommend this little gem to anyone. Stayed April 2017, traveled with family"Villa Song Saigon: "Attention to detail superb"
"What a fabulous hotel to stay at. I decided to treat my 12 year old girl to a night at Villa Song to celebrate her birthday. We were not disappointed. From the booking to when we left, the hotel and its staff were excellent. Their communication was first class and we felt in good hands. Upon arrival we went up to the beautiful art suite, overlooking the Saigon River, to find the most beautiful rose bouquet and a handwritten note as a birthday welcome for my girl. The room was stunning, as was the bouquet. The room has an amazing view and as it is at the top (room 308) has an incredible view of the river. We had dinner sitting outside overlooking the river too. It has an indoor and outdoor section, but sitting outside was glorious. The lights and candles add to the ambience, although the music does need to change. Some beautiful Vietnamese music would be more appropriate. Dinner itself was a delight. The flavours of the food were intriguing and inviting and we were waited on well. The last surprise was a lovely cheesecake for my girl for her birthday - a lovely thought. The pool is lovely and warm and a very good size. Lastly, we had a spa treatment which was superb as well. We had both a facial and an aromatherapy massage. Both were delightful. Without a doubt we would love to return. The staff were so accommodating and this hotel deserves its excellent ratings."Satri House: "Just about perfect"
"My sisters and I stayed here in early part of December 2015 for four nights. Satri House is great small hotel just the right distance for the middle of town. Our room was clean and comfortable we walked out to a peaceful lily pool. Breakfast was delicious. After a day of sightseeing Satri House was a great place to come back and relaxand with a cocktails around the pool. we also loved taking the bikes back out in early evening and ride a short trip to the main part of town for more exploring and shopping. Satri House is just the perfect distance from main town in a quiet neighborhood. Would definetly recommend to friends. .The staff was very kind and efficient. THey were more than happy to call for tuktuk each evening for us us to get to diinner. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Laung Prabang."jing: "Fantastic Hotel! Fantastic Service!"
"We decided to visit Pingyao based on Lonely Planet recommendations (Pingyao is famous as a walled city and well-known for its local goods). So glad we did! This hotel was the best during our China/HK holiday. It is an oasis in an otherwise dusty and remote location. The room and facilities is top notch although don't expect to watch TV as there is none except in the guest lounge. You won't miss it though as the hotel offers spa treatments; noodle making and paper cutting classes. We were able to relax in the guest lounge with complimentary afternoon tea. All tea and delicacies (we had eight bean treasure one day and a type of porridge the next) are locally produced and were delicious. The restaurant is great for both breakfast and dinner with a wide selection available. Loved the scrambled eggs Chinese style on a bed of steamed rice for breakfast. Personal service and attention from all the staff is second to none but especially from the resident manager, Imam, who is outstanding. He was always available to assist or ensure our needs were being met and popped up magically as we would pass through the lobby area. On our final morning of our stay he took us on a personal tour of a ruined courtyard giving us a tremendous insight into how the locals lived many years ago as well as escorting us to a local shoe manufacturer. We would definitely stay here again and the hotel and friendliness make this place worth the detour to Pingyao itself! "Tugu Bali: "Traditional Indonesian colonial style hotel with interesting antique collection"
"Cangu is the new up and coming area in Bali. Now that Seminyak is getting too crowded Cangu starts developing. The Tugu hotel was visionary when it got build 20 years ago. It was the first hotel to set up shop in Cangu and it has a location right at the beach. It is a not a modern style hotel, but a classic Indonesian style hotel build like a colonial building with hardwood flooring and a dark wooden interior. Everything from the light switches to the taps in the bathroom is old looking. I doubt there is any other hotel in Bali that comes close in colonial looks and feel. Room 206 we stayed in was part of a house, which had inside and outside areas. We stayed at the top floor which had views over the garden towards the beach. Below us was room 106 which would not have these views. There were also amazing views of the lotus flower filled pond which had wooden walkways crossing it to link to the honeymoon suite. When we entered we were amazed about the huge open space entrance hall which had a huge wooden statue of a Garuda bird. The hotel is full of Indonesian antiques, with the owner collecting these over his lifetime and displaying them in his hotels. The service in this hotel is excellent with the Balinese people being ever so friendly to assist you. The hotel also has a large grass area which connects to the beach. It is full of statues, beds to chill out on, and at night it is beautifully candle lit with hundreds of candles. This is the perfect place to chill out and watch the sunset. In the mornings you can eat breakfast here as well and this is something I would certainly recommend. The hotel has 2 restaurants, one doing good Indonesian fare. You can also do an Indonesian style cooking class which we did. They have also recently opened the Ji restaurant, a Japanese restaurant which is located in a 300 year old Chinese building which was dismantled in Java and shipped to Bali. They do excellent sushi here, which not many places in Bali do. There is no kids menu here but they can order food from the Indonesian restaurant which does have a kids menu. Outside there is a decent size pool which has a part that is 2 foot deep, excellent for smaller children, and a 5 foot deep area. There is no barriers between these areas, so keep minding the small ones. This is a hotel is OK for children, there is no kids club here and the pool is not necessarily suited for really small children. You go to this hotel to feel part of Indonesia's history. It has been done exceptionally well. I would say go sooner rather than later before Cangu gets fully build up. We noticed a hotel being build right on the back of this hotel, planning rules in Bali are almost non existent. The Tugu was building a large net for climbing plants to provide the necessary privacy."Villa Mathis: "Excellent"
"So shock horror no WiFi. Fantastic! You are properly able to relax but make sure you download any books before you go. No aircon but very good fans in the tented rooms. There are tents floating on a pontoon on the river. All the tents were well appointed and you could go for a swim from the decking around the tent. Good range of activities eg kayaking, a fantastic trip to a set of waterfalls that you can swim in, and a reasonably vigorous set of walks from an 90 mins to all day if very keen and fit. It’s in a beautiful setting and trying hard and succeeding to change lives and attitudes of local villagers. Some opportunities to see wildlife eg hornbills, ospreys etc. Liked its isolation"Satri House: "A perfect secret escape"
Quaint and quiet. Relaxed and elegant. A feast of art collection from paintings to artifact. Topped by a great and proficient property manager. His attention to detail and refined taste is striking. Well done Jani. A must try for a weekend escape in a gorgeous town.Amata Lanna: "So happy we stayed here"
I went for a walk alone and felt quite comfortable. My husband and I walked to a restaurant for lunch. We also could walk to dinner one night very convenient location. I can't say enough about the staff, always smiling! I would stay here again.
