Cuisine Wat Damnak: "Fine dining in Siem Reap"
This restaurant was recommended in a Sunday newspaper article in the UK so we booked online well in advance. The restaurant kept in touch by email to confirm our booking. We were originally booked to eat upstairs where the ventilation is by fan rather than air conditioning but as the was a table in the courtyard we opted to eat there. We were met at the gate by the chef Joannes Riviere who made us welcome and was very attentive to his guests. There is a choice of two tasting menus which change on a regular basis and we had a wonderful selection of dishes. We drank the house white wine which was a French sauvignon blanc and good value. Altogether a memorable experience.Mathis Retreat: "Very nice place just outside Ubud"
First night in Bali. Very nice place. Driver from airport (slightly overpriced) arranged by Mathis stopped at coffee plantation demo. You can skip that stop. We enjoyed walk along rice paddy (not along busy road) in the morning. Did not care for busy Ubud - preferred other parts of Bali. Hotel provides shuttle to/from Ubud. View of rice paddy from hotel is very nice.Blackitch Artisan Kitchen: "A master at work"
Chef Black is a true culinary master. His passion for food - from making his own soy sauces and spirits, to hand crafting seperate meals for all customers, is astonishing. Come visit this young virtuoso before the world comes knocking. Make sure to book in advance, and remember this is a small venue which would fit a max of 12 guestsHeritage Suites Hotel: "Charming quiet hotel"
The Heritage Suites is delightful. It's small and quiet, in the middle of Siem Reap. The staff are equally lovely, attentive and charming. The main accommodation is in a fairly functional concrete building but the rooms are large, clean and well fitted out. There is small pool with adjoining bar. The food is pretty good too and there are plenty of options for breakfast - including traditional Khmer - worth a try!Blackitch Artisan Kitchen: "Kreativ, authentische gehobene Küche"
"Sehr köstliche, kreative und authentische gehobene Küche. Die Atmosphäre ist trotzdem familiär und ungezwungen. Die verwendeten Zutaten ideal aneinander abgestimmt. Es war unheimlich köstlich. Gerne wieder!"Glenburn Tea Estate: "Incredible"
"This place is in a time warp and is wonderful. As the other reviews say the drive from Bagdora is long and the last half hour is down a very bumpy unmade road, but for us this made it more exciting. When you reach the house you received the best welcome and are made to feel at home immediately. Our room was extremely comfortable and had everything you could want, including loads of hot water and thankfully no television. You all eat together in the evening which is akin to a lively dinner party, especially as we met some interesting people and had a great laugh. Breakfasts were equally as good with an Indian breakfasts of the day. We visited the tea factory and learnt how it is processed before sampling a variety of delicious infusions. We also went and watched the ladies picking tea and had a go ourselves. One of the best bits was waking on our first morning to see the mighty Himalayas as clear as a bell only 50 miles away, as the crow flies. I would highly recommend Glenburn for a completely fantastic experience"Reverie Siam: "Fabulous honeymoon stay"
My husband and I spent 5 nights at this hotel and it was wonderful. The hotel has been opened less than a year and feels immaculate. There are so many positives about this place. The design of the hotel and gardens, the very conscientious staff that make you feel special, the high quality finish of the rooms and the superb breakfasts. The hotel is not crowded and so the swimming pool area is very private we often had the pool entirely to ourselves. A nice touch was a free glass of wine or bubbly during some of our evening meals. There was live music on 3 nights of the five we stayed which we enjoyed. We had a fantastic chef board one evening in the restaurant which was delicious. The only thing that would make this hotel even better would perhaps be spa or massage treatments. There aren't fantastic spas in the area and as the hotel has such pretty gardens that would have been lovely. A wonderful hotel, stay here you won't regret it!Golden Buddha Beach Resort: "Very lovely hideout"
Beautiful place - if you go there, you never want to leave.... amazing food, great yoga lessons, very friendly staff, excellent food, nice spa. Like Thailand was 30 years ago but better. If you want internet in your room, buy a prepaid card at the airport, wifi only in at the restaurant. Be aware of the monkeys!David’s Kitchen: "Excellent Birthday Dinner in Chiang Mai"
"My girlfriend, Allie, and I went to David's kitchen to celebrate her birthday. We wanted to go somewhere very nice and make the night special and David's Kitchen was an obvious choice from all of the 5 star reviews on Trip Advisor. When we pulled up to the restaurant we were immediately greeted and escorted in. Every employee we passed on the way in wished Allie a happy birthday. When we sat down, there was a happy birthday card and a named place card for us. The service was absolutely amazing. I did not feel like the waiters were hovering in anyway but as soon as I needed something, someone was there to help. David himself made rounds around the restaurant and had private conversations with each of the guests. We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with him and hearing his stories and he even gave us recommendations for restaurants and activities in other countries that we were going to visit on our trip. We got the highly recommended pumpkin soup and it was out of this world! Really do try it if you go to David's! We both got the braised beefs cheeks and it was melt in your mouth tender. I think I would get something different if I went again but it was still a very good dish. Finally, for dessert we got a delicious chocolate lava cake and the employees came out to sing Allie Happy Birthday. It was a great night and was made very special by David and his staff. Absolutely worth the price. (Book reservations early because they go fast!)"VILLA SONG SAIGON: "Beautiful atmosphere"
"We stayed here for 2 nights in a beautiful suite. Big clean rooms, bathroom and really comfortable bed! The villa is on the Sai gon river, where you can enjoy the view having good food and drinks in the lovely garden. The breakfast starts at 6.30 a la carte and you don't need to rush because you can have it at anytime you want! Food is amazing! The swimming pool is big and beautiful. The staff is friendly, always smiling and ready to help you! We really enjoyed our stay here, if we would come back to Saigon, this would be fore sure our first choice again.
