Mathis Retreat: "Sejour à Ubud"
Charming hotel, great welcome, great food, great view of the rice fields, very good advice to organize tours excursions, away from downtown, quiet. Management speaking French. To make the discovery by bike and rice fields of UbudLabyrinth: "A great introduction to Singaporean flavors"
I loved the tasting menu but it is definitely one of the more heavier ones despite it only having 10 dishes. Worthy of its Michelin star and the experience was incredible. I recommend it to anyone who is visitingRachamankha: "Location, location, location"
Best place to stay in Chiangmai as its central to everywhere. The hotel is a 5-star oasis to escape from the city yet it is located in the city. The staff are friendly and professional making our stay extremely seamless. The room is exquisite with old Thai charm yet furnished with modern day necessities. We definitely would come back here next time!Glenburn Tea Estate: "Pearl surrounded by tea bushes"
This hotel doesn't only welcome you at their doorstep, but already at the airport of Bagdogra: the driver offers you a cold drink and wet towels to get you set for the three and a half hours drive to the estate. On the way, you are offered real Glenburn tea, sandwiches (which we really liked) and cake. How English. The trip to the hotel is a long one and the last 45 minutes are like sitting in a blender. But it is all more than worth it: the setting of this hotel is absolutely gorgeous: the tea plantation surrounds the beautiful house and the view on the Himalaya is stunning. We were warmly welcomed by the English couple who manage the hotel on behalf of the Calcutta-based owners and they do an excellent job in making certain the guests are comfortable. We stayed in the old property in a spectacular room with a huge bed, fireplace and small garden room (it was, indeed, the room we requested. In advance they would not confirm the room to us, and to be hones, considering the price this hotel charges, we find it incorrect that they should not accept reservations for specific rooms). All service you could think of is included in the price. We love the 'bed tea': a serving of tea in your room just after you wake up. Also, it was quite a treat that you could ask for tea and cake at all times of the day. The (western) breakfast is good, but the homemade jam was more like a mash than a jam. The specials were delicious and also the homemade muesli (with home made yoghurt). The dinner was served on a large table with all guests (you can opt out, and have a private dinner). Although this sometimes takes a bit getting used to, we enjoyed talking with the various guests. The food was mostly delicious, but there were some misses here and there. The hotel is quite a distance from Darjeeling and Kalimpong, but the hotel can arrange your visit there, too (driver is included in the price). Having said that, the trip is quite long and we were content with visiting only Darjeeling on one day, and we spend the rest of our time reading, touring the tea factory (including tasting: amazing how different all the teas taste), making walks through the tea plantation and to the river (where the hotel organized a pleasant BBQ. Heed their warning to put DEET on. I forgot a spot on my arm and the small flies got me good; it itched for days after!) They have wifi in the hotel, but the connection is terrible. It is typically a location to relax after an exhausting trip through Nepal, Bhutan or India, so we would recommend staying at least three nights; a shorter stay doesn't seem worth the trouble. We would not be surprised if we found ourselves staying here again!SANAK RETREAT BALI: "Heaven"
"We visited as a family and had a wonderful time. The villas are super comfy as is the bedding! Food amazing...good wine list...wonderful staff...divine setting...what more could one ask for?Would most def visit again! "The Island Lodge: "Perfect Mekong retreat"
I spent one great night here on the banks of the impressive Mekong river. On arrival,as a business group, we were given a fantastic, warm welcome, inclusive refreshing towel and a wonderful "fruit cocktail" and tea. Check in was smooth and incredibly friendly. Michel and his Wife were on hand as part of the welcoming party. I had a very comfortable (the bed and the pillows were a perfect match for an excellent sleep) room overlooking the river. Pity we did not have our evening meal at the hotel restaurant since we had an outside appointment arranged. However, next morning I had a delightful breakfast, in the very pleasant restaurant surroundings. My hat off to the staff who created and added value to the short but memorable one nighter. If you are looking for something special on the Mekong this is highly recommended. Enjoy the Island Lodge!Arumdalu: "Great honeymoon and vacation!"
This was our first -and surely not the last- visit to Arumdalu. Private beach was awesome with white sand and great view. Room was very comfortable for couples, no tv means we had the place for ourselves. Strongly recommended for couples who want to refresh themselves. And maybe a good place for a deep thinking too..JING’S RESIDENCE: "Live like a weathly merchant in Ancient China! The Real Experience!"
"I was a wealthy merchant 500 years ago...my home was full of carved wood and art and lavish fabrics..I had a staff eager to please my every need..I sat in my warm lush living room looking at the last bits of the sun as it set over my ornate terra cotta roof... This is a review of Mr Jings Residence..where you get to pretend to live in another time and place... Pingyao is an ancient walled city cut off from car traffic that looks and operates as it has for a thousand years. If you want to experience historical China this is the place to visit! It's crowded with Chinese tourists in spring and summer but still a must see. In a day you can do a quick tour and see the many restored museums, temples and explore the nooks and and secret walkways that make up this city. (...)The courtyards and sitting spaces laced into the ancient buildings..all your own private sanctuary in warmer weather... The restaurant chef and Jing's Restaurant staff were excellent. Unlike a lot of problems with service in China, the folks at Jing's were helpful, friendly and eager to please. A diverse menu of Thai, Chinese and western food was great. Their spring rolls were light, crispy and perfect!!! My Thai peanut chicken was sooo good! I wondered how the chef could source food in the dead of winter..but amazingly he did!My husband had pork that was fresh and savory. The folks at Jing's were always there to help..they even packed us a picnic of banana chocolate bread for our train ride to Beijing. This place is ancient, quiet and yet modern and luxurious. A must do for any visit to China! Bluntly, I would put Pingyao on any travel plan just to stay at Jing's Residence...It was that good!"Villa Song: "Lovely Saigon hotel in quiet location."
Quiet location right on river, lovely Colonial - style hotel with many pluses. Friendly, helpful staff with a high service ethic. Good dining experience, attractive room overlooking the Mekong. Own fast motor boat for complimentary speedy transfer to City.Tugu Bali: "Comfort in Canggu"
My wife and I stayed at Hotel Tugu for our Balimoon in early June. This hotel is like a time capsule in Bali. The attention to detail in balancing old and new was perfectly crafted. The hotel manager greeted us at reception which was a great way of welcoming us as guests of the hotel. The hotel grounds are meticulously maintained. My wife and I opted for the Rejang Suite which has a sunken tub and a partial view to the beach. The timber interior of the suite with the sunken bathtub and daybed felt true to the charm of the Javanese house. The wood framed windows open to a clean ocean breeze. Because we arrived on Thursday, we were able to view the cultural dance performance with our dinner. Again, the attention to detail was not overlooked in this show. The costumes were amazing and actors were great. The hotel also includes a museum displaying objects of its past and Bali. This was a huge value add as you rarely see such items on your normal Bali itinerary. The hotel also includes a private beach deck which is great for having a few Bintangs while watching the sunset. The hotel staff is extremely courteous and friendly. Highly recommend Tugu to anyone in search for true Balinese hospitality and comfort.
