Locavore: "European Cuisines using Indonesian Ingredients"
"I was so glad to be able to secure a table this time in only 4 weeks notice. My friends & I were really impressed with Locavore because it always tries to use fresh local produce from Bali and other parts of Indonesia. The menu is very ingredients driven, meaning that it is always updated according to what's available fresh in the market. Service was attentive but perhaps waitresses need more training in story telling skills about origins of ingredients, in what conditions they grow or how special the food was prepared. Those things adds up to the overal dining experience. Locavore offers lunch & dinner tasting menu of 5 or 7 courses with a choice of vegetarian (herbivore) or non-vegetarian (locavore). Although they come in really small portion, you will end up full with line up of snacks, amuse Bouche and pre/post-desserts. Definitely worth visiting. Reservation is compulsory to avoid disappointment."The Cabochon Hotel: "A beautiful hotel with so many lovely features"
We were welcomed before we even entered the hotel, with a concierge helping us take our suitcases out of the taxi. We were then escorted to the library and given coconuts to help us cool down. The thoughtful details didn't end there, and our stay was wonderful. We were in a great part of town and given lots of advice about getting around on the skytrain. The rooftop pool was a welcome way to cool down at the end of each day. Highly recommended!Locavore: "Awesome"
We went on Wednesday night as my son had a booking but was unable to go.From the moment we arrived the service was exceptional we had the seven coarse menu ,plus complementary dishes at the start and finish. The dishes were full of amazing flavours and looked and tasted exceptional .It was the highlight of food we have had in bali and would highly recommend it as a must do experience, and thank you to all the staff for making it soVilla Song: "Everything I hoped for!"
"Booked the Villa Song for our 3 night stay in HCMC. What a great choice. To be honest I found the city very over-whelming in terms of noise and people and pollution, so VS was an oasis of calm and peace. Our room was tiny, but wonderful and comfortable, and we had a little terrace overlooking the river. The breakfast was delicious every day, and we had lunch and drinks there at least once as well. Staff could not have been nicer - always smiling and helpful. We took the speedboat to the city with an awesome driver and a very nice Swiss couple. On the way back it was the awesome driver, the very nice Swiss couple and at least 6 other people. To say the boat was heavily laden and the journey was a bit nerve-racking would be a masterly understatement but we got there. :) Our last morning there was my birthday - I mentioned that to our waiter because I was ordering Mimosas for breakfast - and at the end of the meal I got a yummy little cake. I wish we had had more time to explore the area around the hotel - but maybe we will come back. The only thing that was bit of a downer was the polluted state of the river. There was always debris floating by and its dirty looking. Of course that is not the fault of the hotel, but it is worth mentioning. I still enjoyed watching it though."Bassac Mekong Delta Cruises by Secret Retreats: "Highlight of our trip to Vietnam"
We were fortunate to take the 2 day with 1 night stay on Bassac 3 with only 9 people. Nicely split 5 French and 4 English. We had the luxury of 2 guides - one French speaking and Annie who looked after us and the other English couple. We learned so much about the Mekong Delta from Annie as she and her family still live there. Our walk in Annie's village was informative and we got to visit a house and eat lovely fresh fruits, ginger and baked rice paper with sesame seeds. We also visited the school. Cabins on the Bassac are compact but comfortable and quiet resulting in a good night's sleep. Food was very tasty and they accommodated peoples preferences as much as possible. We enjoyed our floating market excursion on the smaller boat and actually boarded the pineapple boat and tried one. Annie also took us briefly to the Can Tho food market on our way to our final drop off. Highly recommendedCuca: "Outstanding food, great service"
One of the few genuinely surprising dining options in South East Asia. The food is refined. The flavours are balanced, the presentation unique. All ingredients are local. Coming to Cuca is a joy. Worth flying to Bali just for a meal here. Do not miss the Bali Breakfast!David’s Kitchen: "Faultless"
"If someone had said before we left the UK that we'd be actively seeking a European restaurant in a country reknowned for having an amazing local cuisine I'd probably have laughed at them. The joke would have been on us if we'd missed this place... I'm not one bit surprised this establishment ranks so highly: the food was superb, the service first rate and I can only count on one hand the number of other restaurants where the owner actually comes out to see if everything is up to standard. My only regret is feeling a bit under the weather otherwise I'd have gone straight to the tasting menu. I have a feeling no matter what you choose from the menu it's not going to disappoint. In short I can't commend this place highly enough. If it wasn't 9000km away we'd be back in a shot."Samanea Beach Resort: "Perfect for when you want to getaway"
On first arrival at Samanea we were pleasantly surprised at how pretty the resort was! A true resort, getaway in the quite town of Kep. Villas were very nicely decorated, had a real tropical feel. Bathrooms are novelty with outdoor tub and rain shower. Big, spacious rooms. Individual villas. Rooms have some air conditioning and an additional fan is provided. However aircon isn't strong enough to really cool the room down. Also as bathroom is outdoors - it has no air conditioning. Beautiful pool, lovely view out to the sea. Amazing sunsets. Please take insect repellant as being close to the water and mangroves there are alot of mosquitos and bugs. Overall food was good but not fantastic but the environment makes up for it. The open dining area was really nice. Good for a few days getaway. Great for couples - but as travelling with a friend a few days was enough. Note: no gym, wifi was relatively stable. We would highly recommend Samanea as a secret resort getaway.Manda De Laos: "Excellent but pricey"
"We were unaware that reservations were necessary but they were very accommodating and set up an extra table for us. We tried one of the sets for two but there was so much excellent food we were unable to finish it all. We did squeeze in the wonderful dessert though! The service was top notch but if you opt to have some wine or beer be prepared to pay top dollar or in this case kip. The total cost was what one would pay in a western country but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will return the next time we are in the area. "Rachamankha: "Truly Wonderful"
"My daughters and I were traveling through Northern Thailand without much of a plan. We ended up at this amazing hotel because of the recommendation from a very reliable source. David from DK Davids kitchen who has one of the best (if not the best) restaurant in Chiang Mai. I also plan to review his Restuarant..... The hotel is beautiful. The grounds amazing for being in the center and they are maintained to perfection. Service is not invasive which I prefer. The food at the restaurant was some of the best dishes we had in Thailand. We are vegetarians and they had two pages of food possibilities. To top it all was the attention to detail! It is apparent throughout the hotel. You can feel that this hotel is owned by a very passionate person who knows and wants to please people. If we were to come back to Chiang Mai I would definitely stay here! And I never repeat..... Stayed March 2017, traveled with family"Travel Asia with Secret Retreats
