Mathis Retreat: "Peaceful and refreshing place"

Spent 3 nights there with my wife. Beautiful place, quiet, beautiful scenery, very good service. The terra cotta restaurant has a fantastic and huge breakfast. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. Easy to get to Ubud center by motorbike, takes 10 minutes.

Neeleshwar Hermitage: "A place to relax"

"This was the perfect place for us to finish our trip around Kerala before flying back to Mumbai. We did absolutely nothing here and loved every minute, although there are plenty of activities proposed by the staff. For us, long walks along the deserted beach spotting sea eagles, bee eaters, Brahminy kites etc and swimming in the magnificent infinity pool at 7am were real highlights of our stay. But we also loved the early morning tea brought to our room, the evening incense lit in the bedroom, the outside bathroom, and breakfast by the Arabian Sea. The staff were discreet and the whole place had a serene, calm atmosphere. Whilst the food was good, we felt it was overpriced in the beachside restaurant, but breakfast was plentiful, and we loved our midday snacks of poolside fruit platters and fruit smoothies. Neeleshwar Hermitage was an oasis of calm and a wonderful place to stay before heading home. Room Tip: All are excellent. We loved it down by the pool, very quiet and convenient for early morning dips"

Nimmu House: "Un coin de paradis"

"Magnifique maison ancienne, restaurée par le propriétaire par ailleurs fondateur de l'agence Shanti travel (spécialiste des voyages en Asie et particulièrement au Ladakh). Accueil familial, très bonne cuisine et cerise sur le gâteau, des tentes de 30 m2 disséminées dans le jardin, sous les abricotiers, avec lits de repos à l'entrée, grand lit king size dans la chambre et salle de douche magnifiquement décorés. Le bonheur après un trek. Rafting sur le Zanskar pas loin. C'est l'ADRESSE à connaître."

Sukoon Houseboat: "Perfect place to unwind"

I visited the Sukoon houseboat during the current difficulties. We had been hesitant to go but decided to go for it and I am really glad we did as we had an amazing time. We were collected from the airport and taken straight to the houseboat: the streets were deserted and there was a soldier presence but once you get to Dal Lake, which is quite a way from the old city, everything was brilliant. The boat is beautiful and the staff are amazing. The food is fantastic. We went out on a shikara ride on the lake, visited gardens and went walking in the hills near the lake: our guide was excellent. There were a few things we couldn't do because of the difficulties but this didn't impact on the overall enjoyment of the trip. The lake is just as beautiful as I had imagined. We really enjoyed ourselves and I would highly recommend it.

Jing’s Residence: "Oasis in the hustle & bustle"

"We can strongly recommend Jing's Residence and the walled City of Pingyao. If you go to Pingyao, a stay at Jing's Residence is a must."

David’s Kitchen: "Just wow"

"We found David's Kitchen on TripAdvisor and decided to go there for my birthday dinner. It was just as spectacular as everyone described. The service was amazing. We came in to our name on our table and the wait staff all greeted us by name. The dishes were never on our table for longer then about 2 minutes and our drinks were always topped up. The food just melted in my mouth. It can't be described, you just need to try it for yourself. It is expensive of course but well worth it. This is somewhere that I normally wouldn't be able to afford but thought we'd splash out for my birthday and I am very very satisfied."

Tugu Lombok: "Exquisite"

"My wife and I had the pleasure of staying with the Tugu ‘family’ for 9 days - oh how we wished we could stay for much longer! From arriving Henry (one of the 2 managers) was possibly the most welcoming person in Indonesia. We arrived late due to a delayed flight (just after 10pm), he could see we were exhausted so gave us a very quick tour and took us straight to our room and said we can deal with the paper work for the check in in the morning. He also had the kitchen whip us up some sandwiches which I thought was extremely thoughtful. Rooms/Villa - each are decorated sympathetically in Indonesian/Lombok styles with pieces of furniture of the highest quality, from the living area/ bedroom, bathroom and garden to the restaurant and bar - everything. Food - whether you want to experience typical Indonesian food or prefer something more western, Tugu caters for everyone. I’d recommend for breakfast to try the Burbur Ketan Hetam, delicious. Alongside Henry, Ellie is the other manager who is equally as warm and welcoming. I can’t single out all the other superb staff, but ones I can remember are Russwal and Eka. Hopefully my wife and I can visit again one day in the not too distant future. Thanks again to all of the team at Tugu for making our stay a once in a lifetime."

Misool Eco Resort: "Unforgettable holiday"

Misool is an amazing lodge in gorgeous Raja Ampat. not only is it gorgeous, clean and luxurious: it has done tremendous work to preserve the manta rays, sharks and other marine life of raja Ampat and Indonesia at large. Misool' said conservation work is crucial to protecting the astounding (and increasingly rare) biodiversity that makes Raja Ampat such an outstanding diving and snorkeling destination. I would absolutely return, and would not consider staying at any other lodge as I believe we must support conservation work. Service is likewise impeccable, including amazing massages.

Locavore: "One of the best in Ubud"

We had lunch at this restaurant and we had a wonderful experience, high quality food, very attentive staff and nice atmosphere. Haute cuisine without being too posh. The taste of some of the dishes was out of this would.

Nam Bo Boutique Hotel: "Great Place"

What a great surprise this little boutique hotel. All staff absolutely polite and very kind. The Restaurant at the top of the building is a great place to enjoy sunset with a beautiful view of the river just in front of you . Our suite was very spacious with all the amenities available at the bathroom and a unexpected plate of fresh fruits was awaiting for us at the suite. We were offered the suite with a large balcony and seeing the night life of the city from the balcony was an unforgettable experience.
