Nimmu House: "Charming, peaceful, warm and stunning"
"Difficult to say what is best: the house? the tents? the whole staff? the location? the views? We had an amazingly fulfilling 7-day stay at Nimmu House. Met some great people. Had some great long chats. Had beautiful walks. Even had a very nice bicycle ride. The beauty of the valley and the surrounding mountains, the feeling of equanimity. It is pretty hard to beat such an experience."Slow Villas and Spa: "Simply Amazing"
We found this place on our last night on Gili Air, if only we found it earlier! It is so wonderful, we had the best stay. From a wonderful welcome with delicious welcome drink to a sensational breakfast before we left, everything has been 5 stars. They even offered complimentary massage in the new spa, which is built in a beautifully designed circular bamboo building. The design of this whole place really is something else. My husband and I could not stop commenting on how well thought out this place is. We loved it quiet surroundings and remoteness. It really is a hidden gem. It is worth spending the extra money to stay here. It is pretty great value really. So sad to leave but we will definitely be back for a longer stay next time.Tugu Lombok: "Simply the best"
The best hotel we have ever been to (and we have been to a lot of 5 stars). Wonderful for honeymoon and any romantic vacation! Simply perfect! A spa with the best massages and treatments ever. One little minus for the fitness room, which is really nothing in comparison with the wonderful rest. Beautiful property, great beach, amazing food. You will regret not having seen this hotel, honestly.Mudanwan Villa: "Tranquil and GREAT hot spring facilities!"
"I have stayed in Mudanwan for 2 night with my family. We got a big room on the ground floor with our own hot spring pool and swimming pool in the back yard (privacy guaranteed), a large bathroom with another indoor hot spring pool, two king size beds, and it was just fabulous!!! We went for a full board package and the food was just gorgeous and fresh! There's a 24 hr juice/snack bar too. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and the services were just great. We really had a fantastic time there. Although the location is really in the middle of nowhere, they do offer a nice shuttle service."Mathis Retreat: "Ultimate Relaxation"
"I've stayed at this hotel with my parents twice - once in 2014 and once in 2016. It was then known as Kenanga. I hope that the name change doesn't impact anything else, because our stays were both so perfect. The staff are SO attentive and friendly. The service is really amazing. You're welcomed with warm smiles every morning, and really begin to feel at home. We stayed in the bungalows the first time. They are renovated so beautifully, with a cool and comfortable design. Every detail, from the bathtub to the nightstand to the soaps, seems to be intentionally planned. The second time we stayed in normal rooms. Like the bungalow, the room was lovely (only a little smaller). The only difference is that the bungalow is closer to the pool/restaurant and that the room has a nicer view of the rice paddies. All in all, I could stay in either and be just as content. The entire property is so beautiful and peaceful. They play quiet but fitting music in the open air restaurant, the pool is spotless and has a perfect temperature, there are shady and sunny spots surrounding the pool to read and relax at, the restaurant is beautiful during day and night, and the hotel isn't too far away from Ubud. During both stays we walked from the hotel to Ubud, and it's really a charming walk. The drive is less than ten minutes. I would really recommend staying outside of Ubud and going into the town during the day. It's a lot more peaceful. When I look back on our stays at Kenanga, I really feel an inner bliss. The food (again, I hope this stays the same in spite of the name change) is actually AMAZING. You have several different breakfast choices from the menu, all of which are prepared so well. It leaves you full, but not too full like at many other buffet-style breakfasts. I hate to be the kind of tourist who eats most meals at the hotel, but I have to admit that my mom and I ate two of four dinners at the hotel. Absolutely no regrets. The food is so tasty, and you can choose from local flavors to western food. I mean it when I say that this is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. They also prepare the most lovely drinks out of all kinds of fresh fruit. I'm under 18, so I only had fresh juices, but I'm sure their cocktail and alcohol selection is great. The kitchen really knows how to use natural ingredients. I had papaya juice every morning with my breakfast, and tried out several of their mixed juices during the evening when my parents had wine. My family usually doesn't go back to past destinations, and definitely not back to old hotels, just because second and third stays usually can't compare with first impressions. Kenanga is an outlier, however. We couldn't help but return for a second stay, and I'm having a hard time not knowing when I'll get to go back again. I hope everything about this hotel stays the same - the atmosphere, the charm, the service, the food, the views, and the size. I'm fine with a name change (though the name Kenanga has a special place in my heart) as long as the experience will be the same whenever I get a chance to return."Nam Bo Boutique Hotel: "Excellent location"
Stayed just one night here to do the early morning market trip. Rather than battle with all the hawkers we booked a boat with the hotel as they offered a private boat to visit the market and noodle factory for just 400VND for the two of us. The hotel is spotlessly clean and has very good service. We had a suite at the front of the hotel but the bedroom was quite isolated with no view which wasn’t a problem. They gave a welcome drink plus a voucher to have drink of your choice in the roof top bar. Breakfast was excellent served at our table on the front roof terrace. Only thing which was lacking was a pool but for a one night stop over it wasn’t a problematic Highly recommend.Locavore: "Amazing Lunch at Locavore in Ubud"
On the recommendation of a chef friend we went up to Ubud to have a degustation lunch at Locavore. From the minute we arrived we were stunned by the beautiful service, decor and ambience not to mention the fantastic food with matched cocktails. Every mouthful was a taste sensation an explosion of flavour and yumminess. We had a tomato consomme with a tomato sorbet that was so good it would make you cry. I cannot recommend this place enough for a foodie experience you will never forget.Supanniga Eating Room: "Excellent food and great service."
We had some really different and interesting dishes at this restaurant with the unrepeatable name for westerners. The Isan cuisine from northeast thailand has some really unique flavours and is distinct from most of the food you'll have tasted in standard Thai restaurants. The prices are high for the area but still a bargain. Service was excellent and the obligatory sticky rice with mango was delicious. Without any alcohol we spent 1,700 baht on mains and a shared pudding and some fancy fresh fruit drinks. Highly recommended.Neeleshwar Hermitage: "A perfect resort in an ideal location – worth every minute of the journey to get there"
We have just returned from our trip to Kerala and Mumbai and have to say that this was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. Our room was delightful, simple but to a very high standard with perfect attention to detail - sitting on our cottage verandah looking out onto the sea was amazing and very tranquil and relaxing - the cottages are designed so that we had privacy and never felt overlooked. The outdoor bathroom was luxurious and simple. Staying at this hotel was the most wonderful experience ever and I can't wait to return. The Hermitage has a peacful ambience - it is eco tourism at its finest - I particularly loved the fact there were no plastic bottles to be found on the resort! The food was superb, the swimming pool out of this world - and the staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A perfect place to spend some time relaxing and being at one with nature.Golden Buddha Beach Resort: "Lovely"
"This is our second visit to Golden Buddha, the first was 4 years. I would say that many things have improved since then, First and foremost, the new manager, Massi, is truly wonderful - what a change! The restaurant have been rebuilt and now looks more smart, a new shop has been added and a pizza bar near the beach has been built. The staff is extremely friendly and smiley - many thanks to Nin, who works at the restaurant - she is a gem. The massages, we had one every day for 11 days are great too. We loved the food, but I think guests would welcome a slightly wider selection of dishes. The villas are truly well kept and very comfortable - I would recommend staying in a beachfront one and away from the restaurant. You also may want to check how close your particular cottage is to the neighbouring one. the island, with its long, deserted beaches is unique. the fact that there are truly just 3 resorts, of which Golden Buddha is the smartest, remains a big plus to us. There are a couple of things we were not too keen on. I should say that we decided to return to Golden Buddha to relax, enjoy the peace and quietness and pick up yoga again. Since our last visit the resort seems to have become popular with families with young children. Whilst some kids were well behaved, others where not and it made dinner and breakfast at the clubhouse less enjoyable that it might have been. The biggest disappointment were the yoga classes. Alex, the so called teaches ranted at each lesson about, what he called, new age yoga. Basically everything but the pure original yoga. He therefore stated that he was tracking Indian gymnastic instead. What was most annoying was his lack of interest and the fact that he did not want to correct people, hence, in my view, did not teach at all. Lastly, prices for food and massages were a tini bit high I thought and I would recommend that the resort buys lounge chairs for all its guests. In any case, I would still highly recommend Golden Buddha,. Stayed February 2017, traveled as a couple"
