Tugu Malang: "One of the World’s Great Hotels"

"It is rare to find a hotel where service is flawless in every detail: The Tugu Malang, one of the world's few truly great hotels, is such a place: The hotel is of such astonishing beauty and the staff are such nice hard-working people, anxious to please in every way, that the Tugu is in fact a destination in itself. If you have no other reason to stop in Malang, then do so to enjoy the extraordinary pleasures of the Tugu. The rooms are ravishing, each one with some element of art and designed thoughtfully for maximum comfort. Exotic fruits await you; the bed is turned down with a friendly note before you go to sleep. Want your shoes cleaned? They come back polished better than when they were new. Breakfast includes almost unlimited pleasures: the menu is vast and you can combine local and Western dishes. Everything is both artful and delicious and the restaurant setting is a work of art in itself. Afternoon tea is included, with an array of local delicacies, served with the ever-present Tugu charm. The hotel owner has built a world-class museum into the hotel. Seemingly endless antiques and art are fabulously displayed; and the best part is that the hotel supplies a brilliant and knowledgeable tour guide to take you round. My guide was Wahyu, who clearly loves the hotel and told me he takes considerable amounts of time to research the objects on display so as to give the best presentation. His tour was completely involving because of his intelligence and enthusiasm -- it felt like being a celebrity receiving a highly-privileged personal presentation from the head curator of a national museum! I do hope that management will recognize Wahyu's excellence and ensure his career development in both museum curating and management! Reception also has the best people: kind, knowledgeable, helpful. They can get you wherever you want in town and make any needed arrangements for you. If you'd like to visit Bromo I'd highly recommend taking the cross-desert route from Malang: it is highly scenic and also quite surreal in places. I did the trip the other way round by ojek (motorbike taxi), but you can also do it by jeep and the Tugu can make arrangements. The ability to take this mindbending route is reason enough to stay in Malang. But you don't even need that reason. The rare graciousness, fragrant beauty, opulence, detailed service and pure delight that exemplifies everything the Tugu stands for means that you should head for the Tugu if you are anywhere in the region for no other reason than to stay in one of the most fabulous five-star hotels in the world at a price for which you would get something only very ordinary in the USA or Europe. This is a best of the best, a treasure, a complete delight: don't miss the opportunity to stay there!"

Rice & Zen Boutique Resort: "Understated, Charming, Comfortable and Friendly Team Members"

"Although the weather throughout our stay was not kind to us, it did not dampened our spirits to have some time out and relax in the resort. We stayed in a two bed room villa and a sea facing villa, each with its own plunge pool. My family was picked up by the hotel team at the airport straight to the resort, a service provided if you book direct. The drive was less than 15 minutes away. Upon reaching the hotel, we drived on a gravel road. Our room are very spacious, clean and comfortable. The gardens are beautifully maintained and there is a herbs and vegetables plot which the kitchen uses it in their menu extensively. The housekeeping team clean the room daily and they do a wonderful job. They also enter the room only when you are away from the room. Our plunge pool are cleaned early in the morning each day. All around the resort ground, wifi is provided, but signals may be weak at certain spots. In my opinion, if you are on a truly switch off vacation, wifi will be your least worry. Otherwise, wifi signal are excellent at the main restaurant; Sea Salt. Our breakfast at Sea Salt Restaurant each morning is simply beautiful and bountiful. The scale of the resort reflects the buffet offerings. One shall not expect a 300 room buffet spread. As a frequent traveller, the breakfast buffet selection is a beautifully balance and nutritious meal to start the day. The fruits are beautifully sliced, and every day, there is a juice of the day made from local fruit of choice. There is an egg station with all the condiments and accompaniments cook to order. The hot section consist Asian staple such as congee, noodles, dim-sum and steamed bun. Bacon and sausages are also offered with waffles and pancakes too! In addition, pastries and bakery, cereals, yoghurt, selection of jams, peanut butter and honey. Tea are individually brewed, and coffee whether you prefer a regular brew, espresso or latte, both are excellent, fresh, strong and bold. Coffee and espresso is my morning ritual, you will be surprised by their selection and beans choice. Sea Salt Restaurant overlooks the beach, ocean and swimming pool, even though it was rainy on all the mornings I was there, the interaction I had with the team, the ambience, the flowers, sound of rain drops, all made it a memorable experience. The team members make the effort to check on you without overdoing it. There are good selection of books to randomly read for a lazy day, you are free to hang out, nap, sleep at the comfortable lounge chairs and benches in Sea Salt. My family and I had dinner in Sea Salt Restaurant two nights in a row. It was not because of the rain, but truly the food served in the restaurant ticks all the right boxes. Small scale restaurant but big on flavors, big on eyes(presentation), explosive flavors from Thai herbs. The culinary team deserves a great compliment. At first looking at the menu, the repertoire is international and also Thai-centric. Usually, I am quite reserve and hesitant with ambitious menu like this. Then again, after dining extensively and selecting a wide range of the offering, I am pleased to say that the culinary team are well experience and passionate with their food. There is a wine cellar with an interesting selection of wines from both new and old world. The cocktails! Oh my, very very surprising! My brothers and I enjoyed the cocktails selection. Each cocktails tried was strong, bold, classic and inventive and beautifully presented. Well done to the Bartender. I have to say my stay at Sea Dance was excellent despite the rainy weather. The villa and gardens are well maintained. I was completely relaxad and rejuvenated. The food and beverage offering are honestly excellent. Finally the ultimate difference of any hotel or resort, small or big, are the staff. The staff at Sea Damce are approachable, respectful, charming, friendly and always goes all the way out to assist my family and me. Never mind the language barrier, the effort and genuine effort shines through. The Sea Dance is a resort in the making a little over 2 years, approaching 3 now. If you willing to step away from your usual global chain hotels and off-the-beaten-path sort of holiday, you will not be dissapointed. Thank you Sea Dance Resort and Team. Glenburn Tea Estate: "A piece of paradise"

"The Glenburn tea estate is in the most beautiful place on earth. On the first day we arrived to a warm welcome and I sat in our room looking over the tea gardens with the Himalayas rising majestically up in to the sky beyond I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Will and Faye were the perfect hosts and Parveez is the most enthusiastic person I have ever heard talk about tea. We learnt a great deal from him and can't wait to stock their delicious Darjeeling tea. We were looked after magnificently by all the staff, (especially Mandeep) and our guides were friendly and helpful and being local were a font of knowledge on all the wildlife and fauna and the ways of life for the people on the estate. We even joined in a game of 'Housey Housey'(Bingo) in the streets with the locals! Every evening we had supper around the large dinning table with the other guests and it was like a special dinner party. We met a wide variety of people from all corners of the globe and it was a lovely way to make new friends. It did not feel like a hotel but more like a home where you were always welcome and nothing was too much trouble. This is a hotel that everyone should have on their bucket list and I just hope we can return again one day."

Sea Dance Resort: "Awesome holiday!"

"We we're a family of five staying in a two bedroom pool villa for 10 days in August. We had an awesome time at Seadance Resort. It is a secluded and tranquil place. We rented scooters for the time we were there thus could explore most of the island's beaches, waterfalls, restaurants etc with ease. That gave us the best of both worlds - busy days and coming to the serenity of Seadance in the evenings. Some days we just spent at the pool drinking awesome cocktails (passionfruit mojito was my favorite) and relaxing. Free piña colada ice lollies was a bonus. Friendly and helpful staff made our stay even more pleasant. Thank you especially to Faith, Helen and Poy for adding that more personal touch to your already awesome service as well. We will definitely return to Seadance resort in the future."

Satri House: "Luxury"

A beautiful small resort in the garden of a former palace, which is well renovated, while the new parts are tastefully added, surrounded by a lush and quiet garden. 2 swimming pools, a restaurant and a spa complete the retreat. Superbly decorated, big rooms, ours was with a balcony with all privacy. Roomservice was perfect, they bring a small snack in the afternoon and prepare the room for sleeping in the evening. Breakfast was good (even so the espresso was a payable extra, a bit stingy considering the price). The staff very friendly and helpful - some extra english lessons for them would be good... Location wise a bit out of town, but in a walkable distance or an easy and cheap trip with tuktuk - the advantage of absolute quietness worth.

Mathis Retreat: "Séjour enchanteur"

Chakrabongse Villas: "Wonderful hotel"

"We stayed one night in this hotel. This hotel is really beautiful. It is authentic and well located in the city. I would definitely recommend it. The room is huge and you have a large terrace. The breakfast is really good and can be served on the terrace as well. The staff speaks a very good English and are very helpful. This hotel would be a bit more expensive than other hotels that we did in Bangkok but it is definitely worth it. We hope to come back in Bangkok and stayed there. Thank you again for the Thailand flag :)"

Arumdalu: "Great experience"

The best resort on the island, the beach at the back of the resort is totally private, feels like i owned the beach by myself, food at the resort is great, just abit pricey for belitung island... But so far this is the best experience …

Inle Heritage Stilt Houses: "Best stay"

We've stayed at Inle Heritage for three nights during out trip trough Myanmar and wished to stayed even longer. Everything was perfect: nice bungalow, very friendly staff, delicious food and nice boat trips organized by the hotel. We'll be back and would recommend this hotel to everyone.
