Tugu Malang: "Superb hotel"

Review by: Fraser R | Source: Trip Advisor
"After staying at a different Tugu Hotel in Lombok I decided to stay here while wanting to visit Mount Bromo. The staff and service here as well as food was excellent! Also the Spa if you are a couple go for the couple's option of 4 hour massage treatment as it's well worth it to try out. If you are wanting to visit Mount Bromo the hotel can arrange a private Jeep to take you there and back which is great and the guide and the driver were very helpful and super polite. Certainly make this a consideration if you are visiting Malang. Just to let you know that its around 2.5hrs drive from Surabaya to the hotel which they can arrange for you too."

misool: "An incredible marine experience!"

Review by: Kathy M | Source: tripadvison.com
"Andrew and Marit have accomplished the almost-impossible by building this remote, luxurious resort on an island in Raja Ampat, mostly from driftwood, and without a fresh-water source. It is a dive resort, but we are snorkelers, and were extremely well taken care of by Andrew, Marit, Mark, Sue, Calvin, two wonderful men both named Ali in the restaurant, and also young ""Soo press"", and the lovely masseuses Banne and Reeshna at the spa. We were assigned a private boat driven by the excellent Sam Saul and a private guide, ""Son"" (for Nelson), who took us on very many enlightening snorkelling excursions near the island. We even swam with 3 manta rays at ""Magic Mountain""! We were in paradise! The conservation philosophy of this resort is commendable and inspiring, and we were left with a feeling of hopefulness for the future of this marine habitat. Well done, Andrew and Marit, and staff! Cuca: "If Cuca was 10,000 miles closer to home I would eat there all the time"

Cuca is worth every one of its superlative ratings. Wonderful atmosphere, unique tapas style menu with great selections, a fine staff all at a good value. What more could a person ask for?

Hotel Tugu Malang: "Amazing hotel amazing staff"

Review by: Galawan | Source: Trip Advisor
"Our stay at Tugu owned hotel in Blitar was our first introduction to the chain. Knowing little about the area prior to our arrival in Indonesia we thought we might as well stick with the same chain for our subsequent Malang visit and we are happy we did. We were utterly impressed by the quality which we think deserves some publicity for others to experience themselves, especially for travellers who seek out low key (read: reasonably priced) and independently owned boutique accommodation. From the moment we arrived until the time we departed friendly staff were around to ensure our comfort. Tugu hotels contain local history. But what stood out for us is how they made us feel comfortable. An early morning incident exemplified why our praise of the chain. Unbeknownst to the staff the team of a visiting official had a very loud sound system test at 3 in the morning across from the hotel. Upon inquiry staff was immediately on hand to relocate us to another room for a few hours of quiet rest. This was followed by numerous apologies by different staff we encountered next day in each corner of the premise. The ultimate apology was when we were upgraded to an incredible suite for our second night despite our assurance that we were alright in our original room. We travel extensively and stay at many different hotel/Airbnb accommodations. Such a response stands out and is cherished. And one more thing. On top of the great service they offer afternoon tea offering local tea and coffee and assortments of local sweets and treats. To us that’s what sweet memories are made of."

Mrauk U Princess Resort: "A lush oasis in a dusty town"

Review by: ZZ12404 | Source: Trip Advisor
"The Mrauk U Princess Resort is a lovely property and a wonderful place to retreat to after a long day of sightseeing and visiting the incredible and unspoiled historic temples in Mrauk U. Mrauk U itself is a dusty and bustling town and the temples are worth the long trip. The hotel arranged for a car to meet us at the Sittwe Airport for a three-hour drive and we availed ourselves of a peaceful ride back to Sittwe on one of the hotel's large motorboats. The five-hour journey included an excellent lunch and was an enjoyable way to see the riverfront views and a peaceful way to travel. The hotel is comprised of a number of authentic villas created completely by hand of carved teak in the local style. Furnished with local fabrics and decor, each is a mix of modern conveniences and Rakhine authenticity. There's also a unique swimming pool, set down in the middle of a pond. The dining facilities, bar and public accommodations are spacious and the very helpful and friendly staff anticipates your every need. The food is excellent and the spa offers a full range of massage and other services. The hotel arranged an excellent guide and tour of the historic temples by Tuk Tuk as well as home-made croissants and coffee at dawn on the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise over the mountains. Getting to Mrauk U takes some time, but it's definitely worth the trip. The Mrauk U Princess is a wonderful and welcoming retreat and is highly recommended."

Maison Polanka: "A unique experience, perfectly executed"

Review by: KenatRSF | Source: Trip Advisor
"My reviews reveal a shameless sybarite, happily wallowing in the decadence of suites in the top hotels all over the planet; the Amans, the Four Seasons, the Six Senses, the Belmonds. Siem Reap has most of these and visitors would be served well at any one of them in their visit Angkor Wat. For something wildly different and unique, however, book the ""Khmer House"" at Maison Polanka, the best of the five available rooms. This is a lush garden, about two acres, surrounded with high walls off a bumpy, unpaved back street not too far from the main canal road and the Museum (and the Aman). Behind the electric sliding door is a beautiful, cool and shaded oasis of grass, kept wet, with high trees and flowering shrubs. It is quiet and peaceful; there is no traffic noise Khmer House is a small, simple wooden, single room building on stilts in the center of the property. The large living room is underneath the house and the equally large bedroom with a sitting veranda is above. The bedroom is air-conditioned and has fans, in addition. See the website for photos. All this at less than half the price of the chains. Dining is under an outdoor pavilion adjacent to a very nice 50 foot pool, suitable for laps and cooling off after a visit to the temples. The menu, though limited, is varied and offers excellent suggestions for any palate. We were so pleased we ate all our meals there for five days, not venturing outside. I also attended the cooking school; one student and three cooks. Lots of fun. As it turned out, a great advantage of our booking was the superb service we received with our private car with driver and guide. Our guide, ""Pich"", is a certified, uniformed guide for Angkor Wat and accompanied us on all our temple tours for two days. She arranged for the tickets and the timing for our visits to avoid crowds. (We enjoyed the sunrise over the main temple.) She is an excellent, knowledgeable guide. The driver awaited us with ice-cold towels and water when we finished each temple visit. He was also available on call and waited for us on shopping and museum visits. a very worthwhile indulgence. The staff is small but attentive and anxious to please. Upon each return to the garden, a young women awaits with a cold towel at your room. This is not ""roughing it""; it is equal luxury in a different guise. A superb alternative to the usual."

The Apsara Rive Droite: "Understated comfort in Luang Prabang"

Review by: expat_ord | Source: Trip Advisor
"Upon arrival at The Apsara, we were met by a very welcoming and gracious staff. And in fact, throughout our stay, they attended to all of our needs and were always very nice and friendly. The hotel itself is located just off the main street in Luang Prabang, on the banks of the Khan River. The location is perfect; just of few shorts blocks from the main downtown area and night market, but on a very quiet one-way street. The rooms are simple, but comfortable and very clean, with a colonial feel to them. However one word of warning: make sure you book a top-floor room. Our hardwood floors squeaked when we walked on them and I felt sorry for the guests in the room below ours. We only ate breakfast at the hotel (and it was always delicious), so I cannot comment on the dinners or other meals the hotel offered. Overall, we loved our stay at The Apsara and I would highly recommend it for anyone visiting Luang Prabang. Room Tip: Hardwood floors, make sure you book a top floor room"
