Tugu Lombok: "Never been anywhere like this before"
My wife and I loved it. It was like being welcomed back to the family home that I never grew up in. The delicious food, the quiet pools, the sunrise over the beach. I write from Villa 2 dreading having to check out in 4 hours. We spent three beautiful nights here. Our daughter was treated like royalty, given a crown and sceptre made from leaves. The pools with green tiles are beautiful and luxurious and as we floated together in the tranquil surroundings all thoughts about the rest of the world disappeared. We ate mahi mahi and lobster on a bamboo bed lit by candles and decorated with ketupat. If you can come here, please do. You will remember it forever.Locavore: "A great dining experience"
I NEVER take photos of food. I cannot say that anymore. I took photos of every course and even the drinks. We had dinner there. Choice between 5 and 7 course meal. We went with the 5 course and worried that our 20 year old son might be hungry afterwards. First of all, it is not a 5 course meal - there are lots of other mini courses. And our son was full. Try the drinks and unless you need to pair wines with your food, keep to the drinks which are very good. You have a choice between meat and vegan meals. And we split it between our group of 4. One of the best meals we have had in a long time. Very good service too. Make a reservation online ahead of time to ensure being able to go there. For 4 people including drinks, around $75 per person which really is not bad for a meal of this caliber. The Cabochon Hotel: "French Indochine Chic"
This hotel is set in an elegant period building down a quiet lane. It has a 1920s period styling with a bit of big game hunter and French colonialism thrown in for good measure. It's not an all-out luxury hotel. It's more an experience hotel, and I had a great experience. IT's like going back in time to a by-gone period which a jarring and interesting juxtaposition from the hustle and bustle happening less than 100m on Sukhumvit. Choose this for a unique boutique experience in central Bangkok. The Cabochon Hotel: "A Special Spot in Bangkok"
"I hope as my first post that a rather gushing review does not come off as unauthentic. I'd be happy for anyone to message me with questions as I really do think the Cabochon is a special place with kind and attentive staff. My wife and I arranged a 50th birthday weekend for a friend and chose the Cabochon as both our hotel and the restaurant for the birthday dinner. We had 9 rooms at the hotel, with 18 adults and 4 children joining. We first discovered the hotel a few years back when some friends living close by in Bangkok took us to dinner at the hotel restaurant, Thai Lao Yeh. Late last year (2015) we went back for dinner on our own and were so impressed we asked to tour some rooms with the intention of possibly selecting this as the venue for the 50th birthday weekend trip. Once the staff showed us a selection of rooms we were hooked. In hindsight I made many mistakes in coordinating such a large group. Rin, who had coincidentally been our waiter on our second Thai Lao Yeh dinner, wound up being our primary contact. Honestly I did not make it easy for Rin, yet he was able to handle request after request and never once let us down. In the end the weekend went perfectly, and everyone in our party commented how much they loved the hotel and restaurant. Let me give some targeted commentary that I hope others will find useful. Restaurant - See my (future) Thai Lao Yeh review. Atmosphere - Historic luxury, so you would think... You absolutely won't believe the hotel was relatively recently built from the ground up. The owner, architect, and builders have done an amazing job not only decorating the entire hotel with vintage pieces, but the actual structure itself (walls, door frames, etc) has been made to look aged. Multiple people in our party commented on this. It has to be seen to be believed. Staff - I have stayed at multiple top tier properties in Sukhumvit and wider Bangkok. The service was 5 star quality, with boutique friendliness. Rin was really a standout for us, but all staff were great. Rooms - The vintage look and feel does not result in any compromises on practicality. The bed was comfortable, as was the lounge furniture in our large balcony suite. The bathroom was spacious, well equipped, and worked as expected. Ground Floor Lounges - Do yourself a favor and have a drink in the lounge. Calling it a ""lounge"" may give the wrong impression. There are actually multiple sitting rooms. Choose your spot, sit back, relax, and soak in the vibe. Breakfast - If you're used to a large hotel's buffet your first impression might be negative, but the selection of fruits, breads, and a main never became boring over the 4 meals we enjoyed on this visit. Pool - It does not compare to the resort luxury of the SGS, but let's be honest the Cabochon just doesn't have the space or army of staff to compete in this area. The pool was practical, well maintained, and proved to be a nice place to hang out with friends and cool down. I can imagine during the hotter summer months it could be a bit too hot to spend extended hours poolside, so if this is your thing then look for another hotel. Location - This is the only area I have not given them 5 points. They are a little further away from both shopping and transportation than some of the hotels centered around Asok or Nana on the Sky Train. You will need to walk 7 minutes to get to Phrom Phong for the closest mall and concentration of shops and restaurants. That said, the peace and quiet of being setback about 200 meters from the street noise of Sukhumvit should be appealing to some. Without a doubt the Cabochon is now my go to Bangkok hotel. The cost performance is top class, the hotel restaurant is honestly one of the best restaurants (if not the best) in all of Bangkok, and the staff are extremely helpful. You can't go wrong if all of my commentary above resonates with you -- really. "Inle Princess Resort: "Quiet piece of heaven"
"Everything starts when you enter the hotel area. By boat, of course, but with the engine turned off - not to disturb other guests, and also to let you enjoy the serenity of the place. A boatman joins your boat at the gate and helps bringing your boat (using traditional rowing by leg) to the jetty. Everything is peaceful at the hotel; it is really a place to rest and relax. It is environmentally friendly and provides a lot of info on the surrounding nature, particularly the birds. The water in the pool is very cold; when you experience the evening and even more the morning temperature here, it becomes clear, why. The staff is utmost helpful, the free minibar is a nice touch, all the toiletries are high quality and locally made. The clientele is upscale and old - if you are 40, you will probably be the youngest guest; if you don't wear a shirt for dinner, you might be the only one. The breakfast is as good as the view from the restaurant which was a refreshing change from the rather dull and disappointing dinner the night before. They even make traditional dishes if you ask in advance - I tried the Shan noodles and was happy. Perfect, at a price. But this is the kind of tourism Inle Lake should do to stay as unspoiled as possible. Stayed February 2017, traveled as a couple"Amata Lanna: "Beautiful Amata Lanna"
Amazing staff. Very poilte and helpful. Hotel has bikes to ride to the city and other helpful items such as umbrellas. Hotel is very peaceful and spa like with beautiful wooden features. Delicious breakfast. Well worth the price. Would highly recommend!Golden Buddha Beach Resort: "Great Stay!"
"We stayed at Golden Buddha Beach Resort for 3 Nights. The resort is surrounded by great nature and a beautiful, amazing Beach. It‘s very quiet except for all the great animal sound. Wild life nature The staff was very nice and super helpful with everything. Some sun beds on the big beach would have been nice since not every Bungalow is Beach front . Food was ok, small plates. If you need a Break from Thai food the beachbar serves Great Pizza. We definitely recommend this resort!"Les Maisons Wat Kor: "A little bit of paradise"
"Staff are extremely welcoming and could not do enough to make our stay a real pleasure. Rooms were comfortable and grounds well looked after Breakfast was really nice and other meals were tasty and economical. It is a little out of the main town area , we had access to a guide and driver thru Exo travel which made it say to get around. Thanks to the staff and management."The Cabochon Hotel: "Hotel with an atmosphere"
"Cabochon Hotel is a hidden gem! A hotel with great service and unique atmosphere!. We spent 4 nights with our 3 young boys and everything was delightful, from check-in to assistance in dealing with activities, to great food. We enjoyed a 2 interconnecting bedroom which was ideal for the family. Swimming pool on the roof is the cherry on the cake and works really well with kids! Thanks again to the whole staff for making our stay in Bangkok a fantastic experience! Stayed April 2017, traveled with family"4 Rivers Floating Lodge: "Surreal floating paradise"
"From the first second you round the bend on the boat and 4 Rivers Floating Lodge comes into view, you know you are in for something special! You meet the boat in Tatai and it is a short and tranquil trip to the lodge. Once there you are warmly welcomed by Adonis and a cool drink. There are only 12 tents, 6 on each side of the restaurant area, so it is always peaceful and relaxed. The tents are amazing! I have stayed in many hotels which are no where near as amazing as this! You have your own patio area with a ladder directly into the river. The river it's self is clean and deep, perfect for swimming. The current was not too strong. They have kayak's and tubes if you want to go for a paddle or float. We stayed here for 6 nights and there is plenty to do whether you want to relax or take excursions. (...) There are books available to read and DVD's if you feel like kicking back with a movie in your room. There is no WIFI here, but seriously, you won't miss it! I highly recommend the sunset cruise! The staff at the lodge are amazing, they are always happy to help with anything and are always happy and smiling. We would really like to thank Adonis and all the staff for such a magical stay."
