The Village House: "A little piece of paradise"
"As the location is quite far out from Kuching we decided to rent a car from the airport which made more sense and was cheaper then taxi's/organised trips. It was a little hard to find when you arrive as the place has no signs. However the location on google maps is correct it just does not look like it. The whole place is stunning. The pool is great, staff are friendly, well decorated, rooms are lovely and the food was delightful. We had the 7 course tasting menu which is expensive for Kuching but the flavours were delicious. They laid the table beautifully with flower petals and it was a really nice way to spend the evening with my partner. They have a selection of wines too. It is nice to stay somewhere which is in a local village and off the tourist trail. They have clearly thought about the place and we could not fault it. The beach is nice to see but the water is dirty and there is not really anywhere to walk too. We only stayed 2 nights and one day we drove to Bako and the other we stayed around the pool. We then stayed two nights in Kuching to be closer to the Orangutans which we visited twice. A must stay place if you are in Kuching and want to get away from the city."The Tiger’s Eye: "Creativity"
Great to see Chef Timothy's creativity back. After trying The Common Tiger, good to see him in his new address at The Tiger's Eye. Different venue, but same vibe, same team around him, same effort to source locally and to shake the established dining scene in Phnom Penh. A must try for connoisseurs!Maduzi Hotel: "Truly the best ‘boutique style’ hotel in Bangkok"
"The Maduzi never fails. Fantastically located just off Asoke & about 200 metres to the SkyTrain. The Maduzi is stylish, modern though at the same time it feels like you’re at home. The rooms are fantastic, large, the biggest beds you’ll find in Bangkok & lovely appointed bathrooms with amenities. The hotel has a good size restaurant which serves beautiful breakfasts & to say the most gorgeous bircher muesli I have ever had. So many hotels are alike but at the Maduzi, the staff really makes this place top-notch. They are always welcoming, friendly & always up for a chat. Undoubtedly, the best small hotel in Bangkok. Cannot wait to return!"RACHAMANKHA: "Absolute delight"
"Unfortunately, memory fails of the date of our visit, which was prior to said date, but not of the enchantment of the hotel which persists. After the taxi ride from the airport through the streets of Chang Mai, we were swept into a land of storybook imagination. The creation of an atmosphere of Asian quiet elegance settled softly around us. My fondest memory, and one I would fervently like to repeat, is having a massage on the open air second floor of the pool pavilion. A gentle breeze kissed the curtains and birds sang while I floated away to another dimension. The restaurant is very good, allowing one to remain within the dream. "Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge: "One of the best hotels in Nepal"
I have visited Tiger Mountain several times and I now regard the staff there as 'friends'. The team led by Marcus, Jhalak and Dol Raj are very friendly and helpful. The food is some of the best available in Nepal. Local curry is excellent and the Western dishes are wholesome and tasty. The hotel focuses on ecotourism and so tries to use local organic produce as much as possible. The large garden is full of birds and butterflies and the naturlist team available for nature walks are very experienced. The swimming pool has possibly the best hotel swimming pool view in the World. I shall return!Golden Buddha Beach Resort: "That deserted beach we all hunger for"
"This amazing place is definitely an effort to reach. We organised a car from Surat Thani train station, which was pricey (3000 Baht - ""Cheaper Than Hotel taxi Khao Lak"" -but still undercuts other taxis) but ensured we made it to Khuraburi Pier correctly as options appeared limited. Golden Buddha organised long tail boat to and from resort but at 2000 Baht each way, it's not cheap either. The boat trip is a tour in itself, crossing mangrove swamps and weaving between islands. Due to high tides we had to get a 4x4 across Ko Phra Thong to resort but that just added to experience. Resort consists of many privately owned cabins along a 1Km stretch just back from beach (which is 12Km long and almost completely deserted!). Massi, the Italian manager was simply amazing. Extremely welcoming, engaging, considerate, just brilliant and added to trip. Our cabin, Baan Coco was nice although limited view. Unlimited water, lovely room, invigorating semi-outdoor shower and wildlife galore. Incredibly quiet so don't come if you want bustling night life! Only single option for dinner (aside nice beach pizza bar) so went half board. Food was very nice and predominantly Thai style. Changed menu each night. Thoroughly recommend trekking tour of Ko Ra, the jungle island next door, which was fantastic (prepare to have to swim!). Ultimately wonderful stay at a place that really does feel at the far edge of Thailand!"Tugu Bali: "Traditional Indonesian colonial style hotel with interesting antique collection"
"Cangu is the new up and coming area in Bali. Now that Seminyak is getting too crowded Cangu starts developing. The Tugu hotel was visionary when it got build 20 years ago. It was the first hotel to set up shop in Cangu and it has a location right at the beach. It is a not a modern style hotel, but a classic Indonesian style hotel build like a colonial building with hardwood flooring and a dark wooden interior. Everything from the light switches to the taps in the bathroom is old looking. I doubt there is any other hotel in Bali that comes close in colonial looks and feel. Room 206 we stayed in was part of a house, which had inside and outside areas. We stayed at the top floor which had views over the garden towards the beach. Below us was room 106 which would not have these views. There were also amazing views of the lotus flower filled pond which had wooden walkways crossing it to link to the honeymoon suite. When we entered we were amazed about the huge open space entrance hall which had a huge wooden statue of a Garuda bird. The hotel is full of Indonesian antiques, with the owner collecting these over his lifetime and displaying them in his hotels. The service in this hotel is excellent with the Balinese people being ever so friendly to assist you. The hotel also has a large grass area which connects to the beach. It is full of statues, beds to chill out on, and at night it is beautifully candle lit with hundreds of candles. This is the perfect place to chill out and watch the sunset. In the mornings you can eat breakfast here as well and this is something I would certainly recommend. The hotel has 2 restaurants, one doing good Indonesian fare. You can also do an Indonesian style cooking class which we did. They have also recently opened the Ji restaurant, a Japanese restaurant which is located in a 300 year old Chinese building which was dismantled in Java and shipped to Bali. They do excellent sushi here, which not many places in Bali do. There is no kids menu here but they can order food from the Indonesian restaurant which does have a kids menu. Outside there is a decent size pool which has a part that is 2 foot deep, excellent for smaller children, and a 5 foot deep area. There is no barriers between these areas, so keep minding the small ones. This is a hotel is OK for children, there is no kids club here and the pool is not necessarily suited for really small children. You go to this hotel to feel part of Indonesia's history. It has been done exceptionally well. I would say go sooner rather than later before Cangu gets fully build up. We noticed a hotel being build right on the back of this hotel, planning rules in Bali are almost non existent. The Tugu was building a large net for climbing plants to provide the necessary privacy."Heritage Suites: "Still excellent"
"I returned to the Heritage hotel one year after my previous stay almost exactly to the day. It's an outstanding hotel truly qualifies as a boutique hotel This time I was given a bungalow and my reaction to this upgrade ( low season) was WOW,what amazing room the best hotel room since a stay at Amanpuri in Phuket. The size of the room is fantastic, the living room, of course the bathroom including a steam room, etc etc Outdoor showers The pictures say what I can not say in words I have a comment to make, I was told the hotel has new ownership and a new manager is soon going to arrive. I only recognized one person Mr Han I hope there's no deterioration of an amazing property I highly recommend it, best hotel on this trip that covered 5 countries in SE Asia"Slow Villas and Spa: "Déconnexion"
Inle Princess Resort: "Great location, Great hotel, great people"
Just back from a amazing trip through Myanmar using Myanmar Shalom Travel and this was our last hotel stop. It's an amazing resort in an place Inle Lake. Everything was great and the added feature to this resort is it's just off the edge of the lake where no long boats can use their motors (boats need to paddle in the last 100 yards) so it's also quiet. One of the nicest places we have ever stayed.
