Step out of the Kyagar Nubra Valley Hotel and into the rich biodiversity of the Nubra Valley that is also home to Siberian elms, wild sea buckthorn bushes, and a variety of aromatic wildflowers. The buckthorn and rosehip bushes are home to finches, warblers, serins, redstarts and other local species all on the lookout for the magnificent hawks and eagles hunting them from the thermals above. The profusion of cape hare cavorting in the valley also means the area boasts one of the densest populations of the bob-tailed, tufted-eared Eurasian Lynx. Take a hike beyond the 25 acres of the Kyagar Nubra Valley Hotel to the crystal-clear waters of the Yarab Tso Lake, one of the holiest high-altitude lakes in the Nubra Valley, or hop on a bike to explore the nearby Kyagar village, from which the lodge takes its name. While in the village be sure to make time to stop by the 250-year-old aristocratic Zimskhang Home that is located there to enjoy a refreshing cup of tea before riding back to your home from home in the Nubra Valley, The Kyagar Hotel.

A Warm Welcome Awaits Travellers in the Kyagar Nubra Valley
For millennia nomads have trekked across Ladakh in search of a place to rest before continuing their journey to all points on the compass and today the Kyagar in the Nubra Valley offers travellers a uniquely luxurious boutique hotel stay in this high mountain valley. For the modern traveler the Kyagar Hotel, Nubra Valley is a wonderful choice when looking for a boutique hotel and resting place on the ancient Silk Route.
The property is the vision of Rinchen Kalon and her husband Stanzin Gurmet whose aim was to create a home from home for guests, a place where cultures, ideas, philosophies and religions could come together as guests share their home while travelling to and discovering the stunning natural beauty beauty of Ladakh and the Nubra Valley. The couple have worked tirelessly to ensure the Kyagar Nubra Hotel is self-sustainable and maintains a minimal carbon footprint. To that end, the kitchen works sustainably, sourcing produce seasonally and locally, and the hotel is 100% solar powered. This eco-conscious hotel consists of 16 well-appointed rooms in eight cottages each with two rooms including a separate seating area, terrace, and spacious private en-suite bathrooms. The large walk-in showers feature a large window that lets in plenty of natural light and share wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding valley and mountains. Each room is finished in soft, neutral colors, earth tones, and with the walls finished in mud plaster in the traditional way for the region. Above each of the cozy double beds at the Kyagar is a skylight with motorized blinds so you can recline in comfort and enjoy a spectacular, unobscured view of the Milky Way arching across the night sky above you from the comfort of your bed. Reusable thermoses with regularly topped-up hot and cold water have replaced the usual kettle and refrigerator in fitting with the self-sustainable ambitions of the owners.
The restaurant at the Kyagar offers an all-day menu, serving delicious local organic Ladakhi specialties as well as a choice of dishes from European, Indian, and Asian cuisines. At breakfast, enjoy your cup of steaming butter tea as you drink in the incredible mountain scenery that surrounds you – Ladakh is truly beautiful like nowhere else.
Experience the Breathtaking Himalayas and More from the Kyagar Hotel in Ladakh
The almost otherworldly scenery of the Nubra Valley is so spectacular it was chosen by Hollywood for the movie ‘Mission: Impossible’ to be the setting for the climax of the sixth installment in their film series and when you visit the Kyagar Hotel it is easy to see why. This eco-friendly family run property faces a rugged landscape surrounded by the Karakorum Mountains and every room is filled with light streaming in from floor to ceiling windows and the above-bed star-gazing skylights. Tastefully decorated for comfort and with a sense of the history of the Silk Route on which it sits, the Kyagar Nubra Hotel offers visitors the opportunity to leave the modern world behind for a while. By day, guests are invited to reconnect with themselves through Yoga and meditation or rejuvenate their bodies and souls through treks and gentle hikes in the natural beauty that surrounds the hotel followed by massage therapy and sound healing. By night, guests at the Kyagar Nubra are invited to gather around a communal bonfire to share stories. Because of its high altitude and a near complete lack of light pollution, the Kyagar Nubra Valley Hotel is perfectly positioned for a breathtaking view of the night sky with its myriad stars of the Milky Way overhead. The Kyagar also has a telescope set on site for keen star gazers to enjoy.
Closer to Earth, the Nubra valley is famed for being at the conjunction of four zoogeographic zones of the world and a region where migrating bird species visit in abundance. Grab a pair of binoculars and learn more about the incredible avi-fauna with a local shepherd. Those keen on exploring the history and culture of the Kyagar’s Nubra Valley home can take a stroll to the Charasa Fort and ancient Ensa Monastery while taking in the petroglyphs in the enigmatic landscape of Murgi. Travel in Ladakh can feel like you have stepped back in time with its uniquely beautiful landscapes, and ancient monasteries and culture, and lifestyles seemingly unchanged by the passing of time. The Kyagar Nubra Hotel is a jewel in the Secret Retreat’s boutique hotel curation, where an incredible almost otherworldly experience that can only be found Ladakh, awaits you.
