If the Parks at Ranthambore and Bandhavgarh are overflowing with travelers, Kanha Reserve is more laid back if you are keen to spot a tiger and enjoy the sunset in a forest teeming with deer and birds. There are about 60 tigers in the park that inspired Rudyard Kipling for The Jungle Book. The Kanha National Park is one of the largest national parks covering 1945 sq. km including a "core zone" of 940 sq. km. It is also part of Project Tiger, one of India's most important conservation efforts. This beautiful area of forest and lightly wooded grassland with many rivers and streams support an excellent variety of wildlife. Some of the species we may encounter include the endangered Hard-ground Barasingha (this being the only place where this subspecies of deer persists), Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, the largest of all bovines Gaur, Golden-backed Jackal, Jungle Cat, Common Langur, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Dhole or Asian Wild Dog, and the elusive Chowsingha. There is also a rich collection of bird species such as: Asian Paradise Flycatcher, White Rumped Shama, White Bellied Drongo, Spangled Drongo. Racket Tailed Drongo, Twany Babbler, Jungle Babbler, Indian Scimitar Babbler, Grey Francolin, Painted Francolin, Black Naped Flycatcher, Common Iora, Eurasian Blackbird, Gold Mantled Chloropsis, Jerdon's Leaf Bird, Golden Oriole, Black Hooded Oriole, Common Grey Hornbill, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Asian Brown Flycatcher, Tickell's Flowerpecker, Verditor Flycatcher, Twany Fish Owl, Barred Jungle Owlet, Spotted Owlet, Brown Fish Owl, Indian Scops Owl, Mottled Wood Owl, Crested Serpent Eagle, Shikra, Common Kestrel, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Pariah Kite, White-Eyed Buzzard, Oriental Honey Buzzard and Indian Pitta. For nature lovers!

Your Journey Day by Day

After lunch and a little nap maybe, we go for the first Safari Game Viewing in Kanha National Park. The park offers Safari through different habitats, including Sal Forest, Bamboo Thicket, Dadar (plateau grasslands), meadows and mixed forests. Back to the lodge for the evening and dinner.
In the afternoon, we will guide you for a Tribal Village walk. A pristine authentic India you find yourself drifting through small villages that have fields of paddy, sugarcane and other seasonal crops around their periphery. The first thing you notice is the bright smiling faces of little children content with their make-shift toys. Women going about their daily chores: drawing water either from the hand pump or the village well, and men returning from the fields or attending to odd jobs around the house. The houses of the village are mostly built with hand made mud bricks, plastered with mud and cow dung with a layer of limestone used as paint, often painted in a stunning blue. Back to the lodge for a cooking class with Chef, and for the evening, we plan some traditional local Tribal dance and performance, an ancient tradition of the region presented with the dinner.
Note: if Day 2 or 3 are Wednesday, program will be rearranged as Park Safari is closed every Wednesday afternoon.
