Mathis Retreat: "Everything An Ubud Hotel Is In Your Dreams"
"This is the hotel you imagine when you think of staying in Ubud. The view across working rice paddies is amazing as our the rooms, quiet amazing. The infinity pool across the rice paddies, the bean bags by the rice paddies and the general setting are all amazing. Staff are friendly and efficient. The hotel is too far out of town to walk (unless you want a long walk) but a van is run by the hotel every hour and they even made a special journey just for us. The breakfast is amazing, as little or as much as you want from the breakfast selection menu and whatever you have is great. Stay here, you wont regret it."Locavore: "This is an experience, not just a meal"
"We weren't sure about going as we are not normally into the fine dining scene, but the reviews of Locavore swayed us to give it a go. OMG - it was fantastic. What an experience! We sat along the open kitchen where we could watch and talk to the chefs - I highly recommend doing so if you can as it really added to our experience. We went for the 7 course degustation (non-vegetarian) accompanied by matching cocktails. We also had 2 cocktails off the menu before we started and these were delicious and not lacking in alcohol. I had one with passion fruit and rum and it was sensational. Along with the 7 course degustation there was a multitude of amuse bouche served - I think in the vicinity of 8 or 9 extra little surprises. We left feeling very satisfied, but not overstuffed. Now - on to the food and drinks themselves. The whole repertoire was simply bursting with flavour. We were amazed at how much flavour could be packed into small amounts of food. Each thing we had was unique and interesting. The cocktails were very well matched with the food. Even though I would not order some of the cocktails left to my own devices, they went very very well with the food served. Similarly, there were foods I would not necessarily order (such as ox tongue) but that was all part of the adventure and there was nothing I didn't eat. I also loved the imagination behind the food. For example, one dish was called ""into the rice paddy"" and the chef explained that it had all the things in it from the rice paddy that one could eat - duck egg, heritage rice, frogs, snails and wildflowers. We actually discovered in the course of the day that there are many flowers and decorative leaves that could be eaten. We were there for almost 3 hours and it went by in a flash. We were kept engaged in the experience the whole time (helped by sitting at the kitchen I think). I am very happy to report that Locavore is non - smoking - MASSIVE THUMBS UP. Apart from the fact others' smoke blocks our sinuses etc, there is no way you could serve this quality of food in a smoke-filled atmosphere. This kind of experience doesn't come cheap but we loved it and would highly recommend it. If you can, book before you get to Bali (through their website). We had 2 weeks in Ubud in shoulder season and could not get in for dinner, but managed a lunch. Thank you Locavore for a great afternoon and a real adventure."Amata Lanna: "Lovely little oasis in the city"
My husband and I are staying here currently for 4 nights, this being our last and we have really enjoyed our stay. It’s really does feel like a little oasis in amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. There aren’t many rooms so it has a lovely boutique feel to it with lovely plants and trees. The staff are really helpful and friendly. It’s in a great location to the markets and old city. Everything is within walking distance or a short car journey. Lovely restaurants near by as well. Would highly recommend this hotel.Cuca: "Fun and creative food"
"Our party of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids) came for dinner. We were a bit surprised that they had a kids menu. The kids really enjoyed their meals, although the portions were pretty tiny for 10-12 yr olds. We had some really fun cocktails including a tropical sangria and lime mojito. They started us with a taste of cotton candy coated with spices. We ordered a bunch of tapas to share including -mushroom fritters which were really good, I would get this again. -baked scallop w/mashed cauliflower: tasty and creamy cauliflower went really well with the scallop, I'd get this again. -roasted pork bun with pickled cabbage; good but definitely but definitely not the best (Momofuku) -smoked butterfish w beetroot cream- nice smokey flavor, solid dish -honey baked pumpkin salad w crunchy granola, a signature dish which was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the crunchy granola w the pumpkin -crispy fried chicken, pretty good and tasty but nothing that special -bbq octopus was ok -marinated pulled pork w soft boiled egg was ok, flavors were ok but not spectacular, wouldn't get this again. -clay pot mushroom rice was good with lots of mushrooms, portion was a bit small. -dessert cocoa99 was really yummy, warm chocolate w mint ice cream and cocoa croutons- I love mint & chocolate so this was great for me. -caramel apple w black pepper ice cream- ice cream was very interesting. Overall we had a really fun meal. Service was great, they were really friendly and nice. It was great to come in a big group to get to try a lot of different dishes. I would recommend Cuca for a nice meal out in Jimbaran."Rachamankha: "Excellent boutique hotel with great service"
My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in November at this wonderful hotel and felt totally at home throughout. The ambiance of the hotel was perfect, very peaceful and serene. The whole layout of the building was beautiful with lovely antique Asian furniture, a nice outdoor swimming pool and a cosy library. The library was well stacked with books and also had the benefit of having 2 PC's where we were able to plan our trips and look up local restaurants, even printing out the information we needed on the spot. The bedroom was very comfortable with a spacious bathroom and free WiFi was available throughout the building. The hotel was perfectly located, a very close walk from the Old Town. It also had the added benefit (from our perspectives) of being a non-smoking establishment throughout. The service was first class from all the staff and the breakfasts were delicious. The hotel manager Paul Walker was especially helpful and proactive, giving us many useful tips both for our stay in Chiang Mai and also Bangkok. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit Chiang Mai as it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your stay. We will definitely book there again the next time we visit.Villa Mathis: "La Villa Mathis de mes rèves"
"Tous simplement sublime.
"Here is a place to go to enjoy real Isan Thai food. We have been there several times already and tried many different dishes. All are freshly made, tasty, not too spicy if you do not forget to mention and nicely presented ... A very good option if you want to discover and change from other traditional Thai food. Very good service too!"RACHAMANKHA: "Quaint hotel"
"Beautiful hotel and room. Loved the design and the property overall. A magical place for sure. Please make the effort to book it if in Chiang Mai. Stayed only one night in a Grand Deluxe room but would have liked to stay for more. "Flower Island Resort: "Best Island in Philippines"
"When you arrive to Flower Island you feel like you have arrived to heaven!! My husband and I booked 2 nights in late September but once we arrived we immediately decided to extend to 3 nights. Luckily we were the only guests on the island and the stuff upgraded our room to the golden one. The room was very comfortable and clean and the view is amazing!! The water is crystal clear and you can do a lot of activities like snorkeling and kayaking. The staff were amazing, all of them are very nice, kind and with good vibes! We did the tour for the pearl factory and it was very interesting to get familiar with the process; after the visit, we had a private picnic for us on beautiful island nearby. Finally the food was DELICIOUS, every meal was different from each other. Don't hesitate to reserve this place, we highly recommend it!! Thanks again to the staff that made our honeymoon unforgettable!!"Samanea Beach Resort: "Kep, I adore you"
"Not in the main bit of town but only a short tuk tuk ride into the crab market. It was so nice and peaceful though. Staff are amazing and incredibly helpful. Our room was beautiful and clean. Just a small issue with doors closing properly to the outside bathroom which could've been an issue if not for the big spray provided by the hotel. If you're after a beautiful and relaxing location this is the place to stay."
