Kratie is a relatively remote province in northeastern Cambodia, where tourism is not developed yet, and relatively less population, which makes the destination very quiet: slow life on the riverbanks of the Mekong. The stretch of the river around Kratie town is home to a group of rare sweet water Irrawaddy dolphins -the main tourist attraction of the province. There are also hundreds of green islands on the river, some with sandbars looking just like beaches. In the province, many of the French architecture buildings have been preserved during the war and add to the pleasant feel of the place. 30km South of Kratie town, the old governor’s residence - a gorgeous yellow-and-white French colonial mansion near the river- has been renovated in a nice boutique hotel, Le Relais de Chhlong where this journey will lead you for 2 nights. Walks and bicycle tours are the nicest ways to explore the area. This short itinerary is an interesting journey to connect Siem Rep and Phnom Penh.
