Wild Borneo Wildlife Tours
- A Secret Retreats journey -Lionel Longeau, the author of this journey, who has made Borneo his home since 2005.
We can of course adjust according to your request.
Highlights of the Journey:
- The Iban and Dayak tribes and their longhouses.
- Meet the ‘old man of the woods’ and see the orangutans in their natural environment.
- The Semenggoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Center.
- The Danum Valley
- Land and water safaris
- Diversity of wild forests
This program is an incursion into the heart of different types of Borneo rainforest tours – walking in the preserved primary forests of Batang Ai where endangered orangutans, multiple mammals, and more than 200 species of birds thrive in the lush vegetation.
Explore by boat through the mangroves where Proboscis monkeys jump from tree to tree, all while Hornbills fly over the Santubong Estuary at any time of the day. Perhaps you’ll also have the chance to observe some crocodiles sunbathing on the riverbank, as well as Irrawaddy Dolphins showing their tails and noses on the Santubong estuary.
The Danum Valley is another sanctuary where endangered orangutans, gibbons, mammals, and diverse birds coexist in the lush rainforest. You’ll venture through mangroves and jungles, joining one of the finest Borneo wildlife tours. A chance to observe the Pygmy Elephants along the banks, alongside a 4x4 adventure through this rich, luxuriant landscape, will offer an unforgettable Borneo jungle tour. Nocturnal walks reveal the fascinating macro world of reptiles and insects.
We have selected the finest lodges located in the heart of these nature reserves.

Afterward, we’ll continue the trip to Lahad Datu, where a quick local picnic lunch will be served. Around midday, we’ll transfer via private 4WD to the Borneo Rainforest Lodge in Danum Valley, arriving mid-afternoon. The Danum Valley is a prime spot for Borneo rainforest tours, offering opportunities to spot migrating elephants, rare clouded leopards, orangutans, and many other species in their natural habitat.
Once checked in at the lodge, you’ll have time to relax before dinner. After dinner, you have the option to join a night 4WD safari or a guided night walk in the jungle, depending on availability and preference.
