Uncover Sumba

Land on the beautiful island of Sumba at Bandar Udara Lede Kalumbang Tambolaka Airport, after landing you will be met by a guide who will pick you up from the airport. You will then be driven to your beautiful secluded hotel in Tambolaka, Maringi Sumba. A beautiful stay hidden in the forests of Sumba with gorgeous bamboo architecture. Once you have been checked in and left your luggage. The guide will take you to visit the Rumah Budaya Museum, a local market, and wander around the Bondu Kapumbu village. After visiting the local community areas, head to the Mananga beach for the sunset where you will get to enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant before returning to your hotel.

On this day you will be free to discover the role of the Sumba Hospitality Foundation (which manages Maringi Sumba). Sumba Hospitality Foundation is a nonprofit organization that empowers underprivileged youth through sustainable hospitality and agricultural education. By offering intensive training in hospitality, sustainable tourism, and organic farming, the foundation equips students with practical skills and knowledge that open doors to meaningful careers. Their eco-friendly campus serves as a living model of sustainability, blending environmental stewardship with social impact. Through this holistic approach, the Sumba Hospitality Foundation not only supports personal growth and professional development but also fosters a new generation of leaders committed to building a more sustainable and inclusive future for their communities.

Today you will have an early breakfast before being picked up by a driver to visit the Kodi region, to discover the beautiful landscapes, traditional villages and natural habitats of the island. You will get the chance to immerse yourself in the villages of Tosi, Ranggabaki, and Ratenggaro, to learn more about the local life in the region. You will get to enjoy a lovely picnic on Pero Beach or by the Waikuri Lagoon for lunch. After a great day exploring the beaches, villages, and nature head back to the hotel to have dinner and relax for the rest of the evening.

After breakfast and check-out, you will depart toward the south of Sumba and on the way, you will visit the villages of Manola, Tarong, and Rai Ijing. These villages are filled with traditional high roof houses and ancestral tombs. Here you will learn about the people’s way of life and their traditions. You will stop by the Wee Kacura Waterfalls, where green emerald waters flow through the rice fields before heading to have some lunch at a local restaurant nearby. After lunch, your next stop will be to discover the magnificent Lai Popu Waterfall, where you can dive into the massive clear waters and feel the water rush against your body. Following basking in the freshwater oasis, you can head further south where you will find the prettiest beaches where you can lie by the beach and enjoy frolicking in the waves. Then after the beaches, you will be dropped off at your next stay at the gorgeous Almayah Boutique Retreat Hotel located on the steps of the Kerewei beach, where you can enjoy the many activities that it has to offer, such as bicycling snorkeling, surfing, gum, and all sorts of local tours. For the rest of the night, you will get to relax and enjoy the beachside under the coconut palms.

Enjoy your breakfast before being picked up by a driver to go and uncover and observe the megalithic tombs of the kings in Pasunga. Anakalang is a village area and a small kingdom in the western part of Sumba island, in eastern Indonesia. It is noted for numerous megalithic tombs and its quadrangular adzes. You will explore the area further and discover traditional villages, specifically the Waigalli and Prai Goly. Along the way to these villages, you will have some lunch at a local restaurant. After immersing yourself and learning about the local people’s way of life, you will head to the beautiful beaches of Watu Bela and Marosi where you can stretch your toes in the sand and enjoy the waves. Then you will head back to your stay to relax and retreat for the evening.

For the next two days you will have whole days to yourself and to do as you wish. You are free to explore the island at your own pace and the hotel can help assist you in the tour, or hike that you would like to arrange. You can also spend the days just relaxing at the hotel and using the amenities that they have to offer. The beach is just a few steps away, there are also pools and tubs to bathe in.

Enjoy your final breakfast by the beach before preparing to check out to be picked up by your driver so that you can reach the airport for the next destination.
