ITINERARY BOOK

This journey has been personally designed by Gaye and Lorna had that simple and magic idea to build a traditional boat that would both be an attraction and would transport guests to visit rare and beautiful forest environments and visit villages within the heart of Kalimantan.

All our itineraries have generally been constructed on the basis of the rooms that have the most charm or best view, and not necessarily the first prices, nor the most expensive suites.
We can of course adjust according to your request.

A rare experience to spend 5 days in the deep jungle, feel and smell the tropical humidity, see the magic light through the tall trees and large leaves , hear the sound of wildlife and approach orangutans, but also many species of birds, proboscis monkeys, gibbons, crocodiles… even Irrawaddy dolphins. A unique moment in a place like no other, and your visit is a mean to support the work of all organization trying to protect the rainforest and Borneo wildlife.

Your Journey Day by Day

5 days / 4 nights from 1,125 USD /person

based on 2 people sharing the same room or cabin

This itinerary can be combined with an arrival from 3 airports only: Jakarta, Surabaya or Semarang . It is a great extension to a discovery of Sumatra, a stay in Yogyakarta or an exploration of East Java.

Day 1 : Arrival in Pangkalan Bun – Kumai- National Park (-/-/D)
A car will pick you up at the airport of Pangkalan Bun upon arrival, drive you to the town of Kumai (45mn-1hr), to board a boat that will take you to the border of Tanjung Puting National Park. Arriving at the Lodge jetty, you will already feel the jungle all around. The jetty connects to all rooms, the reception area, office and restaurant by a series of covered boardwalks. After check-in in the river front room (Diamond), dinner will be served, offering local and Indonesia specialties.
HOTEL: Rimba Eco-Lodge (Diamond Room)
Day 2 : Rimba – Sungai Buluh Kecil (B/L/D)
Morning tour in the wild and large River Sungai Buluh. Start of the day around 7.30am. After riding a “getek”(small boat) and a canoe, you will reach a position to observe many different species of birds in the area and possibly to wild orangutans jumping from tree to tree. We may trek also to a station where the Park rangers give food for the orangutans. A guide naturalist will be standing by you all time to show you and teach you how to observe. Back to the lodge for lunch, you will walk again in the afternoon to Tanjung Harapan feeding station to see more Orangutan and continue with a walk to the Harapan Village, before returning to Rimba for a good shower and dinner.
HOTEL: Rimba Eco-Lodge (Diamond Room)
Day 3 : Tanjung Puting Cruise (B/L/D)
After breakfast, you will check out from the lodge and the Klotok (traditional wooden boat from Borneo, with a roof forming the upper deck to seat and view the rain forest as it glides by) Sekonyer will wait for you at the Jetty, to start a deeper exploration of the jungle. The boat crew includes the boatman, a cook and English speaking guide. Your first stop is the rehabilitation center for orangutan at Tanjung Harapan. After your lunch, you can witness the orangutan feeding time at 15.00. Later in the quiet afternoon, as the klotok slowly moves upstream, you can observe from the deck the monkeys along the riverside, or crocodiles sometimes. The captain will then choose a spot to moor for the night, dinner will be served after sunset and overnight on the boat.
HOTEL: Sekonyer Cruise
Day 4 : Tanjung Puting Cruise – Camp Leakey (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we continue the journey up river for about 2 hours and then up a side creek to Camp Leakey where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rain forest. En route, we stop at Pondok Tanguy, the rehabilitation center for the new ex-captive orangutans, see feeding time at 09.00am, a wonderful opportunity to see these amazing primates up close. Then proceed to Camp Leakey, which was established in 1971 by Professor Birute Galdikas, a student of Professor Louis Leakey (together with Jane Goodall and Diane Fossey). As you walk through the rainforest you often see orangutans and at Camp Leakey you sometimes see gibbons as well as many butterflies and birds. After lunch on the boat you will have opportunity to take small trek before see feeding time at 14.00 pm for old rehabilitation orangutan given additional foods. After dinner on bard, you might also take a night safari to see tarsiers, glowing mushrooms, fireflies and perhaps owls. Overnight on the boat
