Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was constructed by King Jeongjo (reigning 1777~1800), the 22nd king of Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) after moving the tomb of his father Sadoseja, Crown Prince, who had been victimized in faction struggles in the court, and put inside a rice chest and had died in it, from Mt. Baebong, Yangju, to Mt. Hwa, Suwon. The local government headquarters moved from near Mt. hwa to the current location under Mt. Paldal, Suwon. The mountain was considered as the best place to build tombs according to the theory of geomancy in those days. This itinerary is a travel through time in Korean History.

We continue next to Hwaseong Haenggung Palace that was used by the Joseon kings since the time of King Jeongjo (r. 1776-1800). A haenggung is a temporary palace where the king and royal family retreated to during a war. In addition to being used as a shelter during war, King Jeongjo also stayed here during trips to worship at his father's tomb.
After lunch, we walk around Wolhwawon Garden inspired by the traditional gardens of Guangdong Province in China and symbol of the friendship and common cultural heritages of the two countries. We end the day with a visit to the art center called “The House where Nam June Paik lives on” , designed with the artist's works and research in mind. With exhibitions, education, and research, the center aims to continue researching the works of Nam Jun Paik.
Check in at your hotel for the night. Lunch and dinner included.
After lunch, we stop at a Ceramic Art Center - ceramics have been developed here since the early days of the Joseon dynasty, as the nation’s best materials for making ceramics, such as clay, white clay, and Kaolin, were produced around Ssarisan Mountain in Bungnae-myeon. The center offers you a chance to see the process of making art pieces. There are over 60 personal exhibition halls with various styles of ceramics. We then drive back to Seoul and drop you in town to continue your trip.
