ITINERARY BOOK

Aditya is the host of The Nanee, and a family member. Their family traces back a long history of serving the society of Bhaktapur. In their culture, they have deep respect for ancestors. With an intent to give back to the roots, the family established The Nanee as an experiential property responsibly contributing to sustaining and regenerating the heritage of Bhaktapur. We would love to share our stories to our guests in our storytelling room or our rooftop bar or over a conversation about our city.

All our itineraries have generally been constructed on the basis of the rooms that have the most charm or best view, and not necessarily the first prices, nor the most expensive suites.
We can of course adjust according to your request.

Highlights of the Journey:

  • Bhaktapur Lifestyle
  • Sunrise in Nagarkot
  • Artisans and Local Meet up

Land in the heart of the magnificent geological giants of the Himalayas, half way between the hectic Kathmandu and the views from Nagarkot. Arise in the ancient city of Bhaktapur, wake to the ringing of temple bells and people chanting their prayers. You will be surrounded by buildings, moments and people that have kept their traditions alive for centuries. Taste the beautiful culture through its food at an exclusive chef’s table. Share wine, tea and cheese with the local people to share stories and history. Food and stories are the same, they are best when shared. Explore the ancient city and uncover all the little details that others would miss. Everywhere you look, everywhere you go, you will be surrounded by ancient beauty.

This journey can connect to our other itineraries across Nepal, in Pokhara if you want to taste more of the country but also with The Hidden Kingdom of Bhutan if you like to combine both countries or even with Darjeeling and West Bengal.

After landing in Kathmandu Airport a driver will be waiting to take you for check-in at The Nanee (which means small courtyard in the local newari language) in the old town of Bhaktapur (30mn), -a UNESCO World Heritage neighborhood filled with fourteenth-century ancient buildings and community spaces. You will be staying right in the heart of history, with the beauty right at your doorstep. In this first evening the curator of the Nanee Mr Peepul Subedi - a native of Bhaktapur, academically qualified as a cultural expert, as well as a guide and a Hindu Priest - will show you the history and the importance of the property in the local community and walk you through the town (about 2hrs). The entrance ticket to Bhaktapur Durban Square is included for the duration of your stay. In the evening, dinner will be prepared by the Chef on the roof top.
HOTEL: The Nanee (Deluxe Room)

Wake up early before the sun rises and get in a car to Nagarkot (40mn drive) to the foothills of the Himalayas, where you will get to experience a perfect breath-taking view of the Himalayan mountain range as the sunrises. After a cup of tea, head back to the hotel for a solid breakfast. The rest of the day is for you to walk around the town at your own pace, visit the palace and some museums. The best time is from 4pm, when tourists who just came for the day leave the town and local life shows all its authenticity.
If you are the active type we can arrange a hike (2-3hrs) to Changu Narayan Temple, perched on a hilltop - one of the oldest Hindu temples in dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Meals are included, but we can also arrange a special tasting menu in a neighboring Chef’s Table restaurant. (extra charge) located 10mn walk away.
HOTEL: The Nanee (Deluxe Room)
Day 3 : Bhaktapur (B/L/D)
The city wakes up early (6.30-7am) and we invite you to experience Bhaktapur in the morning, when the streets will be alive with fresh-market vendors, sounds of temple bells, and people performing their sacred rituals. The marketplace will be popping and filled with crafts, food, and goods. This could be your chance to drink some Chiya, see how mustard seeds are pressed for oil or flat rice is traditionally processed. You will buy a few ingredients for your breakfast and enjoy a traditional Newari breakfast at the Bara shop.
Enjoy time of your own until 4pm.
In the late afternoon, get the chance to visit a local artisan. Bhaktapur is famous for its rich cultural heritage, exquisite art, and remarkable craftsmanship. You will get to meet one of the “gems” that make this city so great, and sit down and talk to the local artist over some Himalayan tea. You will also witness them working on their craft. After learning from the artist, a dinner with his family, in his own house will be arranged. This is the best way to understand the local culture and see how people live. Food is an international language!. After a full meal, relax and have the rest of the night to yourself.
