All our itineraries have generally been constructed on the basis of the rooms that have the most charm or best view, and not necessarily the first prices, nor the most expensive suites.

In this journey, we invite you to visit the sleepy capital city of Laos, Vientiane, with its deliciously relaxing atmosphere that makes it so different from any other Asian capital. Gentle strolls around the old streets, a round of a few temples, and a walk to the riverside will be the program for the first two days, before driving up to Vang Vieng, which lies by the Nam Song River and famous for its karst topography all around the region. Discovered by backpackers a couple of decades ago, Vang Vieng features many bars and restaurants, but also some nice Boutique hotels like the Riverside which we include in this program, as it is facing the river. Inner tubing and kayaking on the Nam Song River is maybe the most popular activity, but we will show you here the beauty of the nature and scenic points of this part of Laos.

Your Journey Day by Day

Day 1 : Airport – Vientiane (-/-/-)
On arrival in Vientiane airport, your driver will welcome you and transfer to your hotel in the Historic center of Vientiane. After check in, enjoy free time to relax by the roof top pool or to browse around the small streets of the city or along the Mekong.
No arrangement for any meal.

Day 2 : Vientiane (B/-/-)
After your breakfast, you begin your tour of the capital. In Vientiane, you are a world away from the other noisy and polluted capitals of South East Asia. The city has more of the feel of a provincial capital with around half a million inhabitants living on the banks of the Mekong. You will find a city with different facets; old colonial style houses, a jumbled collection of Chinese buildings, golden Buddhist temples and bustling markets. In the north of the city sits That Luang, the national monument with its 45m high golden stupa. The tour will also include Wat Sisaket, Wat Phra Kéo and Phatouxay (the Lao “Arc de Triomphe”).

Day 3 : Vientiane – Vang Vieng (B/L/-)
After breakfast and check out, you set off for Vang Vieng - the drive will take around 4 hours along an old provincial road.
When we reach Vang Vieng, we check in at the resort, by the river for 2 nights. We then continue with a visit of the botanic garden Phou Din Daeng, located 3km north of Vang Vieng. This farm aims to promote responsible, organic agriculture as well as to perpetuate various traditional market gardening techniques and goat breeding. You will take the opportunity to taste one of their delicious blackberry tea and enjoy a nice lunch.
In the afternoon, you will go to discover one of the most original caves in the region: Tham Poukham, the venerated cave of the "golden crab". Access to the cave is via a steep path, with steps carved into the stone. Those who do not wish to go up can rest at the "Blue Lagoon" a spring straight out of the mountain which forms a small turquoise lagoon here.
Back to your hotel and free time at leisure.

Day 4 : Vang Vieng (B/-/-)
Before breakfast, you will embark on a short cruise on the Nam Song river for discover the fresh natural air of the city. (it may be also possible to do the cruise at sunset, sometimes, please check with your guide the day before).
After the breakfast, you will climb the Pha Ngeun mountain: be careful, steep climb that leads to a first platform after about 40 minutes (possibility of reaching the top with another forty minutes of climb) which will allow you to discover an exceptional panorama, at 360 degrees, over Vang Vieng and its region.
Back to your hotel and free time at leisure. If you like to be active, there are many activities available, proposed at the hotel.

Day 5 : Vang Vieng - Vientiane (B/-/-)
After breakfast and check out, we aim at a mid-morning departure for Vientiane. After leaving the mountains behind you, you head for the artificial Lake Nam Ngum with its impressive dam, the very first one in Laos. You can have lunch (not included) in one of the restaurants overlooking the lake.
After lunch, you continue the road to Vientiane via the Dongmakkhai market, where you will discover some ingredients and spices necessary for Laotian cuisine, and especially to taste some specialties which make the reputation of this market: Grilled insects!
We will drop you directly at Wattay International airport for your flight, unless you prefer to stay in a hotel.
