The Minangkabau Highlands is a region located in West Sumatra, with Bukittinggi as the main town, approximately a 2-hour drive north of Padang, situated just below Mount Marapi (2,891m). The area is known for its pleasant climate, stunning scenery, and fertile environment, being the source of four major rivers (the Rokan, Kampar, Inderagiri, and Batanghari).
The region is also notable for its cultivation of rice, coffee, coconuts, tobacco, and tea. This journey offers an opportunity to explore the unique Minangkabau culture, architecture, and craftsmanship.

Your Journey Day by Day
based on 2 people traveling together and sharing the same room
Upon your arrival at Padang airport, your guide will welcome you and then drive you to the small town of Bukittinggi through the Anai Valley. Along the way, you will stop at Kiambang and Pandai Sikat village to see traditional hand carving and weaving (songket). In Pandai Sikat (which translates to Clever Craftsmen), you will find silver or gold threaded cloth, hand woven by the local people We continue for another 15km to reach Bukittingi. Check-in at the hotel and relax.

After breakfast, departure for a day trip around the Minangkabau country to Batusangkar via Tabek Patah. En route, we stop at Rao Rao to visit the traditional village of Minangkabau and Pagaruyung Palace. Minangkabau is one of a huge ethnic group in Indonesia, famous for its matrilineal system, rich cultures and its traditional customhouses, known as “Rumah Gadang or Rumah Bagonjong”
In the afternoon, return to Bukittinggi via the village of Pandai Sikat to see the work of weaving and wood carving.

After breakfast, city tour to Sianok Grand Canyon, Japanese Tunnel, Kock Fort, Museum, Big Clock "Jam Gadang" and local market. Then departure for Lake Maninjau along the fantastic road with 44 hairpin bends. On the way, we stop at the village of Koto Gadang for the silver work and the view of the lake.
When we reach the "Puncak Lawang" pass, you will hike on a trail that descends to Lake Maninjau through the jungle, and may have the opportunity to see macaques, gibbons, birds and butterflies endemic to the region. Along the way, you will enjoy a break at a traditional cafe in the jungle. We return in the afternoon to Bukittinggi to rest.

Day 4, we go slow and participate in the daily activities of the villagers, such as planting rice. You will see how the farmers work their fields with the help of the water buffaloes. After the work, you will taste the traditional fried tapioca and the fried banana cooked by the villagers. Afternoon at leisure.

After breakfast, we drive back to Padang, and if time permits, we stop at the Anai Valley waterfall. Transfer to Padang airport to catch the flight to your next destination.
