Sapa is a small town in the Hoang Lien Son range of mountains in North Vietnam, near the border with Yunnan, China. This is where Fan Si Pan – the country’s highest peak – is located. In 1922, the French colonialists made Sapa a hill station to escape the summer heat. The region is home to different ethnic groups: the Hmong, Dao, Tay, Giay, and Xa Pho. Every Sunday, the Bắc Hà market bursts into life, as hundreds of traders from all tribes descend on the market, creating an explosion of colours from their traditional costumes and fabrics. The valley offers magnificent rice terraces carved into the hills, still farmed today as they have been for centuries. The whole area is blessed with awe-inspiring natural beauty.

Pick-up at your hotel in Hanoi between 6.30 and 7am by the luxury van of Topas Ecolodge (8 seats only) for a 5-hour drive to the impressive mountains and valleys of Sapa. Snacks, water, and Wi-Fi are provided on board, with a 20-minute break halfway. Arrival is around noon for check-in at Topas Ecolodge (3 nights) just in time to enjoy lunch at leisure in the Stilt House Restaurant. Relax for the rest of the day, or explore the surroundings if you wish. All meals on your own.
