This journey has been personally designed by Ibu Ati, who is a native Balinese who has traveled around the Archipelago to understand and share the diversity of its people and cultures.

All our itineraries have generally been constructed on the basis of the rooms that have the most charm or best view, and not necessarily the first prices, nor the most expensive suites.
We can of course adjust according to your request.

A night in a traditional village

The Island of Flores is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands in the eastern half of Indonesia, called after Portuguese word for "Flowers". In this itinerary we propose to cross the island from East to West, starting from Kelimutu volcano, with the three colored lakes, near the town of Moni - the color of the lakes change on an irregular basis, depending on the oxidation of the lakefrom bright red through green and blue. We continue to Inierie volcano near Bajawa, with the NgadaTribe (Rokka) and their traditional villages composed of wooden pile houses, organized according to clan territories; land is portioned out to clan members. On the way to Labuan Bajo, we cross the spider web ricefields of Cancar. The journey proposed here is a low impact ecotourism adventure. Accommodations are basic, but off tourism tracks.

Your Journey Day by Day

Day 1 : Ende Airport to Moni (-/-/D)

Upon arrival at Ende airport, welcome by your guide and departure for the village of Moni with a stop en route to admire the panorama of the rice terraces of Detusoko. Check in at the lodge and evening at leisure.
Dinner included at the lodge.

HOTEL: Kelimutu Eco Lodge

Day 2 : Moni - Kelimutu Volcano - Bajawa (B/L/D)

Early wake up around 4:00 am and departure for a walk around the Kelimutu volcano, famous for the three crater lakes at the peak - aka the Three Color Lakes because it has three different colors, that are always changing over time (black, green, red, white, ...). Many superstitions and beliefs are therefore attached to it. After a 30-minute gentle walk, you will discover a magnificent 360 ° panorama of the 3 lakes and Flores. We get back for breakfast at the lodge, rest a bit and then depart for Bajawa. On the way, we stop at Nangapanda beach with its blue pebbles and we stop en route for lunch. We reach the small town of Bajawa at the end of the afternoon, check in and dinner at a local restaurant.

HOTEL: Hotel Happy Happy (basic)

Day 3 : Bajawa - Tololela (B/L/D)

After breakfast, in the morning, visit to the villages of Luba and Bena, at the foot of Mount Inerie. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the Ngada clan culture with its wood sculptures and ancestral rites. Craftsmen offer high quality ikat (traditional weaving). We continue the walk to the village of Tololela where we will spend the night, with its inhabitants – a unique opportunity to sleep with locals in a traditional village. You will be warmly welcomed and the villagers will gladly share their traditional way of life with you. This is maybe the highlight of the trip, and invaluable and memorable moment, very far away from any tourist activity. (We recommend to bring some gifts for the village chief as a sign of gratitude: coffee, sugar or local food). All meals will be served at the village.

Overnight: in the village

Day 4 : Tololela - Ruteng (B/L/D)

You will wake up to the sound of village activities. Late in the morning, you will bid farewell to the villagers and then depart for Aimere to witness the distillation of the Arak and palm alcohol. We have lunch on the way and reach Ruteng. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 5 : Ruteng – Labuan Bajo (B/-/-)

After breakfast, we drive to Cancar to admire the famous” lingko” or spider web-shaped rice fields, where rice is cultivated as if on a massive pie chart. As per their traditional communal land-use practices, each segment of the "pie chart" is farmed by one family within the community. When the villagers start planting or harvesting a ceremony is held at the lodok -- the centre of the field -- where a wooden pole and a rock form the ritual centre. The pole (male) and rock (female) are seen to symbolize the reunion of the male and female and the heaven and the earth. We have lunch en route and drop you in the afternoon at Labuan Bajo port, hotel or airport tocontinue your journey. This program ends here in Labuan Bajo.
