Ariyasom Villa, An Authentic Heritage Home Boutique Hotel in Bangkok

The Villa residence that inspired the Ariyasom Villa Hotel was built in 1941 by the grandfather of the current owner. The grandfather, Khun Phra Chareon Visawakum, the title ‘Visawakum’ bestowed on him in 1932 by King Rama VII, is known as the ‘Father of Thai Modern Engineering’ and he oversaw some of Bangkok’s biggest projects including Don Muang Airport’s first runway in 1949 and the National Stadium in 1939 amongst many others. He was also the first and longest serving Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the prestigious Chulalongkorn University, in Bangkok, where he presided over the faculty for 27years. Khun Phra Chareon Visawakum’s granddaughter and her family still live in the original Villa and manage the hotel today. Ariyasom Villa Hotel took 2 years to build and opened for business in 2008. Designed to live in harmony with the original Villa residence, Ariyasom Hotel’s design pays homage to the family’s residence with the architecture and interiors reflecting the Villa’s 1940s heritage. Ceilings are high, and windows tall, creating bright, light and airy interior spaces, that were typical of the grand city residences of the time. Floors, fixtures and fittings are made from reclaimed golden teakwood, with their polished patina giving a sense of age and maturity to the hotel. Chandeliers glitter from the ceilings and beautiful wall mounted wood carvings abound, along with carefully placed period wooden furniture and original art and antique pieces.
