The owners and designers behind the Temple Tree Resort found the heritage buildings, most marked for demolition, across Malaysia and decided to take each house apart piece by piece and move to their estate beneath the Temple Tree on Langkawi to rebuild, conserve and preserve these historical and uniquely Malaysian houses to share them and their delightful character, with you, the visitor to Langkawi.
The Temple Tree Resort’s rooms and suites are housed within 6 of the heritage resort’s historic buildings. The houses range in ages from 80 to over 100years old and share their history and unique personality with each guest room located within. While the character of the buildings has been preserved there has been no compromise with modern comforts for guests. All of the rooms and suites are air-conditioned, beautifully furnished and include modern amenities from WiFi to digital entertainment and TV streaming services. The houses can be rented wholly, perfect for big families or groups of friends travelling together with the 9-bedroom (6 unit) Plantation House sleeping up to 18 guests or the Colonial House that sleeps up to 10, to the 2-bedroom suites sleeping 4 guests and individual suites that sleep up to 2 guests. There is a suite, room or house for every occasion at Temple Tree Resort.
Amenities at the resort include 2 swimming pools (lap pools) set within the gardens and enjoying views of the surrounding countryside and mountains beyond, a restaurant bar and lounge set within the wonderful Ipoh House and serving a delicious mix of traditional Malaysian, International and Fusion cuisines, yoga and massage, a 44ft catamaran and a 21ft motorboat at your disposal to explore the 99 islands of the Langkawi Archipelago, and a library and games room.

“Temple Tree was built in 2010 as an extension of its original sister property- Bon Ton-, which consists of 8 Kedah Kampung houses and a renowned restaurant. Temple Tree Resort Langkawi was conceived as a broader tribute to Malaysian architecture and a particular way of life and it was run successfully by the founder for a decade until a new owner took over in late 2019. The 8 main buildings within the resort, dating from the 1920’s to the 40’s have all been bought, dismantled and relocated from across the country to be painstakingly put back together on site in Langkawi. When we took over the resort our key focus was an extensive renovation programme to bring modern luxury to the rooms, to extensively landscape what were previously rather sparse grounds and perhaps most significantly, to utilize Ipoh House, the grandest of the 8 mansions which had been lying unused. Whilst Covid threw our revenue plans a curve ball it allowed our renovation to proceed faster than we anticipated and we’re now very proud to have completely finished the first phase, with 20 keys completely renovated, a new bar, restaurant and reception area and completely transformed and landscaped grounds. The traditional Temple Tree friendly service, unique atmosphere and intimate boutique experience, however, remain unchanged and we look forward to welcoming you to our heritage homes at Temple Tree Resort Langkawi.”

Colonial Suites 1 and 2, Downstairs: These 2 suites are located downstairs and are 40 and 68sqm respectively. Colonial 1 is set with a queen bed and en-suite bathroom with a separate walk-in rain shower and a private, walled outdoor terrace where a luxury wooden bathtub and sun lounger are set. Colonial 2 is the larger of the 2 downstairs suites with the bedroom set with a king bed and similar to Colonial 1 this suite also enjoys an en-suite bathroom with a separate walk-in rain shower and a private, walled outdoor terrace where a luxury wooden bathtub and sun lounger are set. One extra bed can be added for a maximum capacity of 3 guests in Colonial 2 only (no extra bed in Colonial 1).
Colonial Suites 3 and 4, Upstairs: Colonial 3 is a 68sqm suite that comfortably sleeps 2 or a maximum of 3 guests with the addition of an extra bed (chargeable). The bedroom is set with a king bed, lounge space, a bright and airy sit-out and a bathroom set with a luxury wooden bathtub and a separate walk-in rain shower.
Colonial 4 is located at the front of the house and is the grandest suite of the property. With 2 bedrooms, one set with a king bed and the other set with twin single beds, Colonial 4 at 110sqm comfortably sleeps 4 guests or a maximum of 5 with an extra bed (chargeable). This two-bedroom suite has 2 en-suite bathrooms each with separate walk-in rain showers, a separate lounge, a dining area and a lovely shuttered wooden veranda.
