Brijrama Palace is one of Varanasi’s oldest landmarks. Set along on the banks of the River Ganga, it was built in 1812 by Shridhara Narayana Munshi who was the minister for the Nagpur estate. In 1915, the Brahmin King of Darbhanga (Bihar) acquired the palace and the Ghat came to be known as Darbhanga Ghat. In 1994, the palace was bought out by the Brijrama Hospitality group. At that time, it was in a complete state of disrepair and in dire need of repair. It took 18 years to completely restore the palace, which was then subsequently renamed Brijrama Palace as a tribute to the founder of the Clarks Group, and his wife.

Maharaja Room (3 units)

Each of these 48sqm suites offer sweeping views of the Ganges and features four-poster king size beds, a seating area, and a dining space. The bathrooms also have river views. The ceilings are adorned with hand printed coloured frescos and the suites, which are named after the three tributaries of the Ganges (Mandakini, Bhagirathi and Dhruvnanda) are appointed with rich silk furnishings.

Varuna Burj Room (1 unit)

Also called “The Bastion”, this 27sqm room protrudes from the edge of the palace. Located towards the north end of the palace, it has magnificent 180-degree views of the Varuna River.

Vasundhara Room (6 units)

Meaning “Earth” with city and river views, these 27sqm guestrooms are accessed through private corridors. Each has a king size bed, and a bathroom with either a shower or bathtub. The vaulted ceilings are bordered with copper shades and some sections of the walls have traditional motifs.

Dhanurdhara (8 units)

Meaning “Wielder of the Bow”, these 25sqm guestrooms have either double or twin size beds and a bathroom with either a shower or bathtub. Some are located along the terrace with views of the Ganges. The corner rooms have both city and river views.

Nadidhara (14 units)

Meaning “River Guardian” with city views, these 25sqm guestrooms that open onto the palace’s corridors in the central courtyard have either double or twin size beds. The interiors are finished in ivory and the rear walls are adorned with elegant motifs.
