Zhiwa Ling Heritage Paro Where Tradition Meets Modernity
The Zhiwa Ling Heritage Paro sympathetically combines modern design with traditional Bhutanese architecture. A fifteen-minute drive from the Kingdom’s only international airport, Paro International Airport, this Himalayan hideaway is propitiously positioned beneath the rugged cliffs that clasp the Tiger’s Nest Temple. Surrounded by ten acres of lush Alpine gardens, the tapered stone walls of the main building of Zhiwaling Paro house well-appointed guest rooms decorated with locally woven bed covers and drapery, flooded with natural light, and made snug throughout by the Swedish style underfloor heating. There are an additional eight cottages built over two/three floors ideal for groups and families. All Zhiwaling Hotel accommodation comes with complimentary Wi-Fi, satellite television, and a minibar. The ensuites feature standalone bathtubs and separate showers.
As well as 42 Junior Suites, guests at Zhiwaling Paro can treat themselves to a stay in the Takin Suite or Blue Poppy Suite both with a large bedroom and separate sitting room. The Royal Raven Suite is the pinnacle of Bhutanese magnificence featuring two king-sized bedrooms, separate living and dining areas, a private porch with unbeatable views, and a butler service to tend to your every whim! On the upper floor of the main building is a Buddhist shrine constructed from the reclaimed timbers from a 450-year-old mountain monastery, a perfect spot to practice meditation or just enjoy quiet moments of reverie. An indoor heated pool is the perfect tonic after a day spent exploring Bhutan’s natural beauty and fascination culture. Head to the Zhiwaling Heritage Hotel’s Lingka Restaurant for quality all-day dining. The name translates as ‘merry-making’ and the kitchen prepares a range of Western specialties using fresh, seasonal ingredients, many of which come straight from the kitchen gardens to your table. The Gawa Restaurant, which means ‘happiness’ is geared to serving up more traditional Bhutanese and Indian specialties. Try the chilies and cheese, artichoke hearts, cooked organic salad or the sliders and a beer.
The Mad Monk Bar is reminiscent of a Swiss ski chalet with its light wood furnishings and welcoming open fireplace. Try the Ara, a potent local brew made from rice and perfect for warming the cockles after a day in the mountains. Guests are invited to rejuvenate in the Hotel Zhiwa Ling’s Menlha Spa where a steam room, sauna, and outdoor hot stone bath await you. The meditation house offers spiritual sustenance, the yoga studio is available for group and private sessions, and the tea house is the perfect place for those who want to relax and enjoy local tea in the traditional way.

Zhiwa Ling Heritage Paro – Gateway to the Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon
Guests at Zhiwa Ling Heritage Paro are encouraged to indulge in a range of activities, both indoor and outdoor, that connect with the local community and allow visitors to appreciate Bhutan’s culture and pristine natural environment. Closer to home is the Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the Kingdom’s most sacred holy places. For those who would prefer a gentler challenge, there’s a trail that leads from the property into the forest which is named ‘For Pete’s Sake’ after a former guest at the Zhiwa Ling Hotel Paro Bhutan. Visitors to the Linka Restaurant have the option of dining indoors or outdoors, weather permitting. The al fresco option involves savoring one’s meal on a purpose-built deck on a cantilever bridge with stunning views of the surrounding scenery. A wooden churner is used to mix butter with salt to create Bhutanese butter tea to be sipped while reading a book from the hotel’s library.
