“Patti Seery was the visionary beyond Silolona Sojourns, creating traditional hand crafted vessels that speaks of the history of the Spice Trade and embodies the spirit of the Indonesian Archipelago whilst ensuring the highest international standards for safety, comforts, service and cuisine. In order to accomplish this goal a mutually respectful bridge between the knowledge and skill of the traditional boat builders and modern western marine technology had to be established.

The first of Patti’s builds became known as the Ultimate Phinisi, a modern classic phinisi build that is as much of the guest experience as the destination and experiences in themselves. Our second phinisi – Si Datu Bua (Beloved Princess) was built in 2012, using the same Konjo builders that built Silolona, Patti brought in Tresno a naval architect to conceptualize the smaller phinisi, using the same concepts of tradition with modern standards and comforts. Following Patti’s retirement she named Tresno as her successor and CEO. Sharing the same spirit of adventure and vision as Patti, Tresno continues to grow and develop Silolona Sojourns creating remarkable voyages for guests throughout South East Asia. Secret Retreats shares the same values and respect for people and traditions.”

Long before we sight land, the scent of spices drifts across the burnished teak decks of our wooden sailing ship. Before us, in the tranquil Banda Sea, lies the enchanting tiny island that was once the centre of the Spice Island trade.

Soothed by the trade winds and idyllic charms of these now forgotten islands, tomorrow we shall stroll through the world’s oldest nutmeg gardens, visit private colonial mansions, and savour the remnants of Banda’s once glorious past. On our way to snorkel or dive the brilliant multihued underwater gardens, we might stop along the beach to collect pieces of 500 year old pottery washed ashore from an ancient shipwreck.
