ITINERARY BOOK

This journey has been personally designed Touny,
who is born in Laos and likes to share her favourite spots across the country and her knowledge and passion for the nature and history around the mystic Mekong River

All our itineraries have generally been constructed on the basis of the rooms that have the most charm or best view, and not necessarily the first prices, nor the most expensive suites.
We can of course adjust according to your request.

Highlights of the Journey:

  • Four Thousand Island
  • Bolaven Plateau
  • Khone Phapeng Falls
  • Wat Muang Kang

Through Southern Laotian Course

The trading route, source of food and water, and social center for the settlements along its banks—the Mekong plays an essential role in the life of people in Laos. It is also locally known as “The Mother of Waters.” From Champasak, where the hotel is located, you will discover the old colonial town, Don Khone, and the Four Thousand Islands Laos of the lower Mekong—sometimes by boat, by 4WD, or by bicycle. This Southern Laos itinerary offers you a deep insight into life along the Mekong in the south of Laos. The journey can also serve as a great South Laos tour package extension to explore the Bolaven Plateau and its magical waterfalls—just like water falling from the sky in the middle of the jungle.
This program can be an extension of programs in Laos or Thai Eastern Coast.

Your Journey Day by Day

from 1,100 USD /person for 4 days/3 nights
from 1,325 USD /person for 5 days/4 nights

based on 2 people traveling together and sharing the same room

Day 1 : Pakse Airport - Champasak (B/-/-)
Upon landing at Pakse airport (30 min drive) or Ubon Ratchathani airport (on the Thai border – 2.5 hrs), a driver will greet you and transfer you to Champasak, where you’ll spend the next 3 nights. After check-in, feel free to stroll through the narrow streets of Champasak. With its many colonial-era houses—often left in ruins—it still holds a nostalgic “Indochina” atmosphere. A charming start to your Southern Laos itinerary
No arrangement for meals.
HOTEL: Bassac Residence (Suite Duplex) or La Folie Lodge (Bungalow River View)
Day 2 : Champassak - Four Thousands Islands (B/-/-)
After breakfast, set out on a trip through the Four Thousand Islands Laos. You’ll drive to the pier opposite Don Khong Island, where your boat will be waiting. Continue your journey toward the islands of Don Det and Don Khone for a pleasant cruise of nearly 90 minutes. Explore Don Khone and what remains of the old railway line—a colonial-era legacy. Continue to Liphii Falls. Lunch at leisure (not included) at a restaurant along the Mekong.
After your break, hop into a canoe for a peaceful ride down the Mekong—the lifeblood of Southeast Asia. On the return, make a short detour to the Khone Phapheng Falls, where the Mekong dramatically breaks its flow in a 14-meter-high cascade. These are the largest waterfalls in Southeast Asia, often called the “Niagara Falls” of the region—a must-see on any South Laos tour.
Back to the hotel for the evening.
HOTEL: Bassac Residence (Suite Duplex) or La Folie Lodge (Bungalow River View)
Day 3 : Champassak (B/-/-)
This morning, visit the famous temple of Vat Phou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in the 5th or 6th century, it predates even the cities of Angkor. Explore the site and its museum before boarding a boat to discover Don Daeng Island. This is an ideal spot to take in pastoral landscapes and scenes of daily life that seem frozen in time. Three marked trails allow you to explore the island’s dirt roads, passing wooden houses, rice granaries, and small schools—where children are sure to greet you. The island also features a few temples worth visiting.

Lunch is at leisure (not included) in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, cruise the Mekong again to visit Wat Muang Kang—one of the oldest functioning temples in the region, complete with a traditional library. Continue to Vat Muang Kao near the old Bassac church, which dates back to the 19th century. A meaningful moment in your Southern Laos itinerary.
Return to the hotel for the evening.
HOTEL: Bassac Residence (Suite Duplex) or La Folie Lodge (Bungalow River View)
Day 4 : Bolaven Plateau or end of program (B/-/-)
Option 1: End of program
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you will depart by private car back to Pakse Airport or cross the border to Ubon Ratchathani Airport (2.5 hrs drive). If time allows, visit the Pakse market and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Alternatively, continue your journey deeper into Laos, Thailand’s east, Vietnam, or Cambodia. This flexibility makes it a perfect short yet immersive South Laos tour.

Option 2 : Extension to the Bolaven Plateau Tour
If you choose to extend your trip, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby after breakfast for a full-day discovery of the Bolaven Plateau tour. Known for its pleasant climate and fertile soils, the plateau is a lush, elevated region famous for its natural beauty. Head to Tad Lo to enjoy cooler temperatures and admire its trio of waterfalls. En route, stop by one of the local tea and coffee plantations. You’ll also visit a Katou ethnic village before having lunch (not included) at Tad Lo. In the afternoon, continue toward the Sayxet River and the village of Nge De Khiang Tad Soung. Your day ends at Tad Fane Falls—formed from two streams plunging more than 200 meters—making it the tallest waterfall in Laos. An unforgettable highlight of any South Laos tour package.
HOTEL: Bassac Residence (Suite Duplex) or La Folie Lodge (Bungalow River View)
Day 5 : Champasak – Pakse or Ubon Ratchathani (B/-/-)
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, depart by private car to Pakse Airport or cross the border to Ubon Ratchathani Airport (2.5 hrs drive). If time permits, you may visit the Pakse market and have lunch at a local restaurant. Alternatively, you can continue your journey into the heart of Laos, Eastern Thailand, Vietnam, or Cambodia. This marks the conclusion of your enriching Southern Laos itinerary.
