The trading route, source of food and water, and social center for the settlements along its banks—the Mekong plays an essential role in the life of people in Laos. It is also locally known as “The Mother of Waters.” From Champasak, where the hotel is located, you will discover the old colonial town, Don Khone, and the Four Thousand Islands Laos of the lower Mekong—sometimes by boat, by 4WD, or by bicycle. This Southern Laos itinerary offers you a deep insight into life along the Mekong in the south of Laos. The journey can also serve as a great South Laos tour package extension to explore the Bolaven Plateau and its magical waterfalls—just like water falling from the sky in the middle of the jungle.
This program can be an extension of programs in Laos or Thai Eastern Coast.

Your Journey Day by Day

No arrangement for meals.

After your break, hop into a canoe for a peaceful ride down the Mekong—the lifeblood of Southeast Asia. On the return, make a short detour to the Khone Phapheng Falls, where the Mekong dramatically breaks its flow in a 14-meter-high cascade. These are the largest waterfalls in Southeast Asia, often called the “Niagara Falls” of the region—a must-see on any South Laos tour.
Back to the hotel for the evening.

Lunch is at leisure (not included) in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, cruise the Mekong again to visit Wat Muang Kang—one of the oldest functioning temples in the region, complete with a traditional library. Continue to Vat Muang Kao near the old Bassac church, which dates back to the 19th century. A meaningful moment in your Southern Laos itinerary.
Return to the hotel for the evening.

After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you will depart by private car back to Pakse Airport or cross the border to Ubon Ratchathani Airport (2.5 hrs drive). If time allows, visit the Pakse market and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Alternatively, continue your journey deeper into Laos, Thailand’s east, Vietnam, or Cambodia. This flexibility makes it a perfect short yet immersive South Laos tour.
Option 2 : Extension to the Bolaven Plateau Tour
If you choose to extend your trip, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby after breakfast for a full-day discovery of the Bolaven Plateau tour. Known for its pleasant climate and fertile soils, the plateau is a lush, elevated region famous for its natural beauty. Head to Tad Lo to enjoy cooler temperatures and admire its trio of waterfalls. En route, stop by one of the local tea and coffee plantations. You’ll also visit a Katou ethnic village before having lunch (not included) at Tad Lo. In the afternoon, continue toward the Sayxet River and the village of Nge De Khiang Tad Soung. Your day ends at Tad Fane Falls—formed from two streams plunging more than 200 meters—making it the tallest waterfall in Laos. An unforgettable highlight of any South Laos tour package.
