Your Host and The Team
Our home is a collection of bamboo and wooden structures, all crafted from regenerative materials. Interior details spark curiosity, showcasing the elegance and simple beauty of natural materials. Nothing in our village was made in a factory or bought in a shop. We hope you’ll sense the hands that crafted this space, and the comfort it brings us, and hopefully you too. We operate on a 100% non-profit basis. All the proceeds go to sustain and expand our mission. This project brought together makers, architects, artisans and artists, all working together communally, sharing knowledge and skills, creating something special that we want to share with you too.
The Guestrooms at Zero Waste Village Thailand an Eco Resort on Koh Phangan
The guestrooms and accommodation choices at this eco resort on Koh Phangan is intentionally limited to keep the focus on the quality of the guest experience, and to ensure privacy, and immersion in nature. The 3 rooms (sleeping a maximum of 6 guests across the 3 rooms) at Zero Waste Village Thailand are housed in artfully and sustainably crafted separate bamboo structures, each one feels more like your own individual sanctuary rather than a traditional hotel accommodation. The design is one that allows guests to experience a strong sense of personal space while remaining connected to the shared and communal areas of the resort. Locally sourced and sustainably farmed natural materials dominate the interiors, from the bamboo structure to the handwoven textiles to reclaimed wood furnishings, all combine to create a tactile warmth that contrasts with the minimalist elegance of the design. Beds are fitted with organic Thai latex mattresses that prioritize comfort and wellbeing, reflecting the village’s holistic approach to rest and recovery while still aligning with and supporting the ethos of sustainable travel in Thailand. Some rooms are air-conditioned, while others are open to the sea breeze, so guest comfort is assured whatever the weather, allowing guests to choose between air-conditioning or a more natural, elemental sleeping experience. Mosquito nets, large windows, and outdoor living areas blur the boundary between inside spaces and outside spaces, altogether reinforcing the feeling of being part of the surrounding ecosystem. Bathrooms are designed as walk-in spaces that emphasize light, airflow, and natural textures, further distancing the experience from conventional resort aesthetics. The layout of the rooms follows the contours of the land, with the structure built around and within rather than simply ‘on’ to preserve the existing trees and rock formations and reinforcing the principles of truly eco-friendly beach resorts. Rather than standard daily turnover, the accommodation is available as a private rental, fostering a sense of home and shared responsibility among families or groups of friends travelling together. This thoughtful approach to design and capacity ensures that the village remains intimate and low impact, aligning with the broader goals of sustainable travel in Thailand while offering a grounded yet comfortable stay experience with a strong, and natural, sense of place.
Sustainable Travel Thailand comes to life at Zero Waste Village Thailand
Sustainable travel Thailand comes to life at Zero Waste Village Thailand, through a diverse range of activities that invite and encourage guests to participate, learn new skills, and connect with the team and local community of the Zero Waste Village. Daily life here offers lots of opportunities to guests to engage with traditional island crafts such as coconut leaf weaving, natural dyeing, and working with bamboo, one of nature’s greatest and most versatile building materials. All of the activities and experiences are expertly guided by local artisans who share the skills that they have learned from family, skills that have passed down to them through the generations. These experiences transform simple materials into meaningful objects, reinforcing the philosophy that nothing is wasted, Zero Waste, and everything has value. For those drawn to the sea, the surrounding waters provide chances for squid fishing, beach picnics, and gentle exploration of coral-rich shorelines, often followed by meals prepared with the day’s catch. Inland, guests can take part in composting sessions, tree planting, managing organic water systems, or garden work, gaining first-hand insight into how sustainable systems function in a practical real-world setting. Staying at an eco-resort on Koh Phangan itself expands the range of possibilities, with nearby beaches, walking trails, and local markets also offering authentic glimpses into island life beyond the resort. Wellness is also an important component of the ethos behind Zero Waste Village Thailand, and mindfulness sessions, creative workshops, and moments of quiet reflection are woven naturally into the stay experience. Rather than a fixed schedule, activities are flexible and responsive to the interests of guests and the rhythms of nature, reinforcing the idea that sustainable tourism is as much about mindset as it is about practice. Through these experiences, the village demonstrates how eco-friendly beach resorts can foster meaningful cultural exchange, environmental awareness, and personal growth. Guests leave not only rested but inspired, carrying forward a deeper understanding of Thailand’s sustainable tourism and the role conscious travel can play in preserving places like Koh Phangan for future generations for the benefit of us all.

We Care
We compost all the peels and skins of fruits and vegetables back into our soil. We maintain pollinator zones to help the bees, birds and bats do their essential work for our ecosystem. We are fully solar so that our vehicles and tools, cookers, fridges, pumps and filters are sun powered and do not add to pollution in Thailand.
We hope to reduce our footprint on this planet by encouraging organic farming and purchasing from farmers, fisherfolk and artisans who eke out an income from their intricate crafts. We use weeds for natural dyes and herbs and help to protect sea creatures with daily beach clean ups. We are committed to building a community of eco builders and artisans who are comfortable sharing knowledge, resources and tools to support each other. We host workshops where locals can share their eco passions and educate us about their traditions and participate in preserving this tiny piece of the planet that we have found ourselves stewards of. We run an Eco-sharing program where community members share knowledge, skills and make craft from found objects in nature, following a zero waste, zero-kilometre methodology.
Ours is a working village, but it lies in one of the last remaining truly private coves in the west coast of Koh Phangan. At special times, it can be freed up and enjoyed in private.
