Marcus Cotton & Jhalak Raj Chaudhary
Your Host & The Team
“We aim to set new standards for responsible conservation tourism in this diverse and fragile country. We wish to provide a haven of comfort and tranquillity, a place where guests can relax and re-charge, contemplate, meditate, and revitalize their mind and spirit.”
Marcus Cotton & Jhalak Raj Chaudary – Dedicated to Responsible Conservation TourismThe two main faces of Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge, Marcus Cotton comes from England, brought up near Oxford in a traditional Buckinghamshire farming village, while Jhalak Raj Chaudhary was born and raised in Meghauli Village on the edge of Chitwan National Park in Nepal. Both men equally embrace the vision for Responsible Conservation Tourism and this commitment is reflected in all they do. Working with the local community and respecting the region’s environment, they’ve kept the lodge grounds in their natural state in order to support the habitat for the birds, butterflies and other native animals.
The lodge, which is a haven for guests, also employs members of the local community with whom the men share their values of conservation and preserving the environment. Seeing the increased confidence and professionalism of the lodge’s has been both a goal and deeply satisfying reward of the owners who aspire to pass their passion and integrity onto future generations of managers and employees.
Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge fully supports and practices responsible conservation tourism. Operating in the middle hills of Nepal, where the surrounding area is under diverse pressure, it is committed to the protection and enhancement of the natural environment, the people and communities. The lodge strives to ensure that all its operations have the smallest negative environmental impact possible by reducing consumption of fuel, water, generation of waste, and minimising the use of chemicals. Blending into the landscape, the lodge was constructed in a manner that respects traditional architectural design. The grounds are natural and in keeping with the area’s natural biodiversity, and most of the salads, herbs, and some vegetables are grown organically in the lodge’s gardens. Local produce is bought from within the village and immediate area at a fair price.
The lodge prioritises all appointments for job applicants from the immediate community, and raises understanding of responsible tourism within the community such as litter and refuse management. Public water taps were installed to provide a reasonable water supply to the local people. In addition to supporting local schools including the salary of one teacher and providing teaching materials, books, paper, and posters, the lodge also manages the sponsorship funded by guests of various children from disadvantaged backgrounds who would otherwise not be able to go to school. Working closely with local partners, national, and international charities, the lodge also develops and supports local environmental enhancement projects. Other aid comprises a range of biodiversity monitoring projects, and various social development and welfare activities.
“Iconic lodge just outside Pokhara, Tiger Mountain offers 17 cottages with breathtaking views over the Himalayas. An ideal base for guests in search of relaxation in the mountains or nature activities such as birdwatching, trekking or even paragliding.”
