Discover The Old Capital of Laos: Luang Prabang

- A Secret Retreats journey -
4 days / 3 nights
from 380 USD /person

ITINERARY BOOK

This journey has been personally designed by Lamphoune Voravongsa, owner of Satri House in Luang Prabang, passionate to share her knowledge about Lao culture, art, history and traditions.

Highlights of the Journey:

  • Morning alms to the monks at sunrise
  • Botanical garden and UNESCO cultural heritage town

Just like the mosaics that covers some of its Temples, Luang Prabang is a quiet town that offers local Lao history, great cuisine and spiritual nourishment. Located at the confluence of the Mekong River and the Nam Khan, the peninsula is a UNESCO protected gem's heritage of 33 gilded wats, saffron-clad monks, French colonial style villas, encircled by forest, hazy green hills and waterfalls. Even with many visitors, the town remains a sleepy and friendly village, like if time has stood still here.

Your Journey Day by Day

4 days / 3 nights from 380 USD /person

based on 2 person sharing the same room

Day 1 : Airport to Satri House (-/-/-)
After welcoming you on arrival at Luang Prabang Airport. Short drive (15mn) to Satri House and check in for 3 nights. Follow your host through a visit of the property. No other arrangements for the day, so you can relax by the pool or at the Spa. Dinner, at leisure.
HOTEL: Satri House (Deluxe Room or Junior Suite)
Day 2 : Luang Prabang (B/-/-)
Today, early wake up for a morning offering to the Monks in the old part of the town. Our team will prepare the offerings for you and at 5.30am they will escort you from the hotel to the main street in the center of the old town. After a quick briefing on the signification and the “procedure”, you will take position on the sidewalk and offer food to each monk walking in front of you. Back to the hotel for breakfast and rest. Around 10h30, we will drive you to a pier on the Mekong, to board a boat for around 15-20mn to reach Pha Tad Ke Botanical Garden. The botanical garden shows the Flora of Laos, a verdant oasis of gingers, orchids, ferns, bamboos, and palms looking over the Mekong River, on the opposite bank of the river. Focusing on the relationship between Lao people and their plants, these gardens showcase plants used in medicine, handicraft, spiritual ceremonies as well as medicinal plants for elephants.

Lunch (extra charge) can be enjoyed at the restaurant at the Botanical Garden – slow food farm to table. And you can decide to take a boat around 3.30pm (5.30pm is the last boat) to come back to town. Back to the hotel for the rest of the day... and enjoy your evening. You may go to the night street market for a walk. We can recommend some tables for dinner (ask us).
HOTEL: Satri House (Deluxe Room or Junior Suite)
Day 3 : Luang Prabang (B/-/D)
No arrangements during the day. Take your time. Enjoy a lazy morning and breakfast. You may take a bicycle from the hotel and go around the town, stop to visit temples, the market or museums. Unless you prefer to go by walk. Or simply relax in the hotel by one of the 2 pools or the lotus ponds.

A driver will wait for you around 7pm to drive you to Paste Lao, a unique dining experience serving a creative plant-based Lao food. This is historical Lao food, based on authentic historical Lao recipes and a tweak of modern creativity to layer and shape the dishes. Set menu (alcoholic beverage will be charged extra). The driver will wait for you after dinner to come back to Satri house for the last night.
HOTEL: Satri House (Deluxe Room or Junior Suite)
Day 4 : Airport - Departure (B/-/-)
After breakfast and depending on your flight time, a driver will drop you at the airport.
