MesaStila: "An amazing holiday"
"We live in Jakarta and were in desperate need of nature. We travel a lot, both for work and leisure and are quite picky with accommodation. For our holidays, we like to stay away from soulless big chains without having to compromise on comfort and quality. Mesa Stila did not disappoint: from start to finish, everything was perfect.
The hotel itself and the grounds are magical, and the mountain views from the rooms are spectacular. Even the hotel's website doesn't do justice.
Thanks to the activities, we never got bored during our 3 day stay and never got out of the hotel. We made full use of the facilities on site (spa, pool, restaurant, kid indoor playground) and of the complementary activities (yoga, jungle gym, coffee tour plantation). Considering the remote location of the hotel, we were very impressed by the level of professionalism and skill of the staff (I practice yoga twice a week, and my husband is very athletic and both instructors were really good).
Unfortunately we didn't have time to try horseriding but the horses looked very well cared for and the man in charge told us he was an ex-jockey.
Our visit happened during rainy season and although it rained most afternoons, we always found something to do (hanging out with our friends in the main house enjoying the complementary afternoon tea, taking turns going to the spa...).
We found the hotel very kid friendly (traveling with 3 kids: 3, 1, and 6 months): indoor playroom, shallow kid pool, accommodating restaurant and good kids menu...
A few packing tips: clothes for slightly cooler weather (the hotel is located 700m above sea level and it can get chilly in the evenings during rainny season), plastic flip flops in case you are visiting during rainy season"
The River Resort: "Many reasons to come, no reason to leave"
"We stayed in The River Resort mid July 2017, as the starting point of our Laos trip that took us up north from there.
Great, nicely decorated bungalows with terrace or balcony and grand view over the mighty Mekong. Two swimming pools. A good restaurant serving a wide variety of local (and not-so-local) food. All set in a wonderful and well maintained tropical garden.
Great staff that helps you with anything and more - like lending you bikes or fixing you a trip to a nearby or far-away site.
Yes - the place lies somewhat remote from the obvious track; getting there needs some planning. The hotel can help you with that!
Yes - nearby Champasak is a hamlet and everything is hamlet there; no fancy stores and no nightlife. You won't miss it, sitting on your balcony looking at the river and the sky over it!
Yes - it's an expensive trip to those Mekong falls (some 100 kms south); once there they charge you for almost every step you take around the place. You'll forget this once you stand on a ridge watching a billion liters of Mekong water cascading down!
The River Resort is not just a place to stay - it's an experience!
A perfect start for a Laos trip, or as an ending as well."
Jings Residence: "An oasis of Calm in Pingyao"
Lonely planet says Pingyao is perfect. Well, Jing's Residence is the perfect place to stay in the perfect walled city. The service is exceptional. They anticipate your every need without being intrusive. Right from the moment you are collected at the airport with snacks to a concierge who helps you plan the perfect activities for your stay... the service is impeccable. The restaurant is outstanding; you'll want to have every meal here! We're foodies and really didn't want to go anywhere else which says a lot for people who normally like to explore local restaurants. The hotel is part of Relais & Chateau and Secret Retreats. Based on our experience here we'll look for other hotels in Asia which are part of these 'brands'. Go! You will love it!
Most of the cruises on Chao Praya river are big boats with chessy music, lousy buffet and full of unpleasant big group tourists. Supanniga has already made its name from their restaurants in the city which drew many sophisticated Bangkokians to the cruise when opened. I had a chance to dine on the cruise. The cruise is small and not crowded. I love the chic and stylish decorations with nice modern music. Food are great. I enjoyed the experience.
Tandjung Sari: "Perfect for Honeymooners"
My husband an I came to the beautiful place as a gift from my father in law, as he had stayed here before. We were so pleasantly surprised, the place was fantastic. The room was clean and had relaxing day beds inside and out the front of the cottage we even had out own private hut to relax in. The room was very clean and we felt very comfortable, the shower was outdoors. The best part was the beautiful gardens that surrounded us, the restaurant is on the beach, also the day spa at the hotel is the best I have ever been to. We cant wait to return.
"Stayed here near the beginning of our Vietnam holiday, having spent the first 2 nights in HCMC, and it was a perfect place to relax and acclimatise to the new time zone.
All the staff were really attentive and welcoming, and there was a very relaxed vibe about the place. It was a nice touch for the owners to welcome us personally on our arrival. On our departure, they also thanked us for staying and gave us a little gift of some chocolates, which was much appreciated.
We loved the food - the menu was varied and interesting and also reasonably priced. It was also enjoyable to sit in the restaurant and look out over the continuous activity of the river.
As we were there for 2 nights, we were able to do several of the activities on offer, including the bike ride along the fish farm trail. We absolutely loved this, and a special thank you must go to our guide, Khai, who proved a lot of fun and was able to tell us lots about the area. We also enjoyed the pool and the gardens.
We shall certainly be back here, as we're already planning our next holiday to Vietnam, and this would make a good stop either at the beginning of the holiday or at the end, particularly as they offer transfers to and from the airport."
We dined at Le Du in Feb 2017, a modern Thai gastro restaurant with a twist. We selected the four course menu with inventive, tasteful dishes where western textures are fusioned with Thai flavors. Examples are the river prawns with egg and chu-chee curry or the mango panna cotta with passion fruit and smoked coconut icecream. A decently prized wine list completes the gastro experience. The place is popular, thus crowded with poor acoustics i.e. too noisy for a normal conversation. I was told management is working on a solution.
Satri House: "Ooh, this Indochine feeling"
"Wanna feel like a character in an Indochine film-noir? Stay at the Satri House in Luang Prabang and you will likely grow into it!
Or just stay there because the place is more than perfect.
Very atmospheric rooms: nothing beats this early morning light coming into the room through these shutter doors.
Dwell around those steps and shady arcades and gaze at all these decorating items - where did they get all those beautiful things from?
Two swimming pools, very friendly, professional and helpful staff, beautiful garden, great restaurant - what else do you need?
LP is on walking distance, but you can take a hotel bike too."
Cuca: "Wonderful experience"
"I was in Jimbaran for a wedding so googled best place to eat - Cuca popped up! The reviews were not wrong.
I had the degustation like recommended, this consisted of baked scallop, cuban corn, roasted pork buns, mushroom fritters, smoked butterfish, bbq octopus, crispy fried chicken and bali breakfast for dessert.
The portions were perfect, I wasn't starving when I got there but I left content, not stuffed.
My fave dishes were the scallop, pork bun, butterfish and the dessert which is surprising as I'm not usually one for fruit based desserts.
The presentation was beautiful, the setting was amazing (three choices - out in the garden with the coconut trees, in the private dining area or in front of the chefs). My waitress was very knowledgable and very attentive. The dishes came out in perfect timing, not letting me sit there for ages but also gave me decent room in-between courses.
It's pricy for Bali but what you get - you'd be paying double or going towards triple that in Australia. The degustation also included and alcoholic digestive drink aswell.
Was a very special experience and one of my best dinners in Bali over 4 trips to the island to date."
Tugu Malang: "Keramahan ditengah kota malang"
Having a strategic location amid poor town, close to the city center and the train station. The hotel staff were friendly and the facilities were excellent although vintage ... In the afternoon there drinking tea is free for guests while enjoying delicious snacks. For breakfast there was no buffet menu, but do not worry about the food choices will not disappoint.
